If you're limited on space then have the port on the side of the subs.

  • First off, WOW!!  These Xcons sound soo smooth and clean!  I just wish I had gotten into quality gear sooner.  Like one stated earlier, they're giving me a boner...haaa   The car is also rattling soo

  • But what are your goals?

Do you already have the subs?? You should of went with 10s. Your box is not going to be big enough and have enough port area with those dimensions.

Yes, I have the subs.  It may not be the best possible volume, but a great sound can still be had.  So what is the best config for driver side focus of sound?

Volume is one thing, port area is the other. Neither of them area going to be good. If I were you I would just do one 1 12 and sell the other. That's the best solution I feel. If you absolutely need 2 then I can design something up.

Yes, I'm going to use both 12s.  So a side firing port design it is!  Here is another attempt at Torres:

Try it and let us know how it works

Add 1 for extra number of baffles and change the number of port walls to 3.

Ok, Thanks!  Is 50in^2 the lowest port area I should use?  I have been aiming for 32Hz tuning, is that about right?

That's 25in2 per. The lowest should be around 35in2 per.

It'll do if that's all you can get but just be ready for some port noise.

Will this be slight whistling at max volumes?  I'm buying wood tomorrow.  At least I can build the outside, while the guts still get sorted out :)

I would just build it and see if it's okk for you. You might be content with it.

It will surely be better than the Type Rs I have.   Would 2 10s or a single 15 have been the best choice with the space I have?

I would say 2 10s. 15 might be squeezing it but wud be pretty good.

What is a good source for speaker wire and a Stinger display?  Wire seems pricey at sonicelectronix and the like.

What gauge should I use for the Xcons?

Knukonceptz is where I get my speaker wre from.

Also a stinger volt meter??

I would use 10-12 ga speaker wire for the xcons.

Is the stinger no good? I figured it was better than the cheapo units on ebay.

Thanks bass!

Stinger is as good as you can get for the money.

Finally making some progress:

Good news is the box will be larger than originally planned.  Port area is 56.25in2, net volume is 4.48ft3 tuned to 30Hz.

Is 30Hz too low?  I still havent made the final cut on port length.

Man I can't wait to hear/FEEL these suckers!! :)

30 is low ! But you may like it. wink.png

I like to tune around 33, 34. It gives me everything I want : good punch in the higher bass notes, and good lows too.

I'm not listening to Decaf songs regularly, I'm more into reggae. smile.png   smile.png

BTW Xcons are fantastic subs. Nice choice.

Tuning higher does give more net volume, so Im all for that! House/Techno with strong builds is my fav music, but I do listen to rap and rock. You think 32-33 would be a good tuning?

Should be good with that tuning.

32-33 will be totally fine for you. Let us know how you like it :)

Box is looking good by the way!!
