Ive been looking to upgrade my system for a while to something louder and cleaner and have been looking mainly at JLs. I recently found W6W12s on sale on sonicelectronix for around $400. From what I read these are the subs I'm looking for but I still have a few questions. Right now I'm running a 15" Eclipse titanium in a ported box on a Hifonics Zeus 1200 watt amplifier in a 2001 Expedition. Would 2 W6s be louder than this? I'm looking for something that will really hit hard, like a lot harder than the eclipse. Will the amp I have work for two of these subs? Also would I be better off going for 1 W7? Lastly, would it be necessary to make improvements to the wiring setup I have or the alternator or do any other sorta major additions to my system to accommodate these subs?

What you've read is wrong. Way better off adding another ti

nah I know 2 tis would be better but they're also harder to find and take way too much power for my amp. I want to know if 2 w6s are better than just one eclipse 15

You aren't going to achieve your goals, so no. Even doubling your Ti's won't though. You need more space if you have to have 'more'.

I'm not really sure what you mean. So you're saying there is absolutely nothing I can do as far as a better sub? The eclipse is the top of the mark for my car? That seems sorta hard to believe

Never said anything about the sub, it is irrelevant and the last thing you change.

Plenty of cheaper options than a pair of JL's especially since you're already concerned with whether or not it will be loud enough.

Actually he said the sub is irrelevant, meaning it is not a concern right now. There are other things to do to his current install before looking at new sub(s): new box, electrical up to par, etc.

Yes I my priority is for something louder but I would also like something cleaner if possible. It seems like JL does a good job balancing the two in their subs. I feel like these JLs would be good for the amp that I have bc their top rms is around 600 but can be played on lower power. I feel like my one eclipse is being underpowered. Also it starts to smell a lot after playing loud for only a little while which concerns me and is another reason I'm thinking of switching out to something more durable

Again, changing drivers is not going to make things "cleaner". Changing your subs isn't going to net you anything but less money. The Ti is really durable as well, perhaps moreso than the W6.

So what will net me something??

And wouldn't 2 12s get me more cone area than 1 15? I'm not just changing 1 15 for a different 15 I'd be getting two different 12s. I feel like all things being equal 2 12s is better than one 15

Yes two 12s is more cone area than one 15" but its not a huge leap like people make it out to be. Usually they say it takes double the power and double the cone area to really hear a difference.

Give us more info about your install, to help us help you. Once again your box could be an issue, the setting on your amp or headunit could be off, your electrical might not be up to par.

If you are having issues with your current install then swapping it out for different equipment is not the best option.

20% more cone area wouldn't be worth spending $10 on

We are trying to help but you aren't listening. Need to know more about your constraints before we can really offer any advice other than to share what surely won't help.

Got any pictures of the setup? . .. . Im guessing the enclosure is the main issue

I understand I'll try to get some pictures up asap. But the wiring kit was pretty entry level its a Belva BAK42 4 gauge wiring kit. The amp is a Hifonics ZRX1200.2. The HU is a Sony MEX-GS610BT. The amp is grounded through the bolt of one of the rear seats and is in contact with some like 1/8" steel. I grinded off the paint on the steel and the bottom of the bolt head that touches the ground connector. I could get a picture of that if it would be helpful. I got the sub used so I really don't know much about the enclosure and agree that could be an issue. I was told it was a custom build and it looks that way to me but since I couldn't really find any specs for enclosure size for the sub I didn't have any idea what dimensions it should be. I'll try to get some pictures up soon and let me know if theres anything in particular other than the box that it would be helpful to see. Where do you have all the settings on the amp set?
