Posted March 13, 200718 yr I picked up the Sundowns and the Eclipse 8443 back in December and threw in a temporary set up. Now that I'm not having my life sucked away by a manipulative bitch, I'm finally getting the install completed. I'm rebuilding the RL-i boxes to be slightly larger and not have airleaks and be more attractive. Side panels will be build into which the amps will be flush mounted. Hopefully, I'll also get a chance to build a cover panel for my rear deck this week.On to teh pics!Eclipse 8443:Some boxes:Sundown Audio SAZ-1500D:Sundown Audio SAX-100.4:Temp. March 13, 200718 yr Admin l33t! WTFmateGreat choice in equipment Tom! Guess those amps will help a little with hook up on launches. I hope you are finished in time to show Mark how sweet the little RL-i's are. Keep the pix coming.
March 14, 200718 yr Author How big are you gonna go?i think im getting up to 0.32 - 0.33 cubes per sub (old ones are 0.25 per), i might need to throw some polyfil in too
March 27, 200718 yr Author finally some more updates, things have been busy around here with my sister in town and the piece of chit exanywayall the wood work done on the boxes except for the top:fleece ready to be resined:how they'll hang in the car:
March 27, 200718 yr why do they hang that way in the last picture? i thought the rounded spots were for the wheel wells
March 28, 200718 yr Author why do they hang that way in the last picture? i thought the rounded spots were for the wheel wellsthe rounded spots are for the spare tire to fit in between them
March 28, 200718 yr Author I do hate having to have a spare tire. They eat up so much good space.Indeed. Yours can't be in as bad of a place as mine though

March 28, 200718 yr my spare is completely worthless. i have a full day of wiring if i pull everything out of my trunk and put it back. ill just keep my phone with me
March 28, 200718 yr Author more updateswhen i was taking the subs/old boxes out, one of the T-nuts came loose so i couldn't get the bolt out. i was just about to dremel it when i discovered i could bend it back and forth until it snappedthe offending bastard:old vs. new:how they compare:and the beefcake twins that really need a wipe down:
March 28, 200718 yr stupid t nuts. next time i use them i'm gluing them with JB weld before i ever try to put a bolt in there. i had 3 come unsunk on me. luckily, my 6" round port was the perfect size for me to reach my arm down and eventually (with lots of effort and swearing) grab the nuts with vice grips and take them out. as for spare tires...mine couldn't be in a better location. underneath the trunk area out of the way :-Dgotta love the blazers
March 29, 200718 yr JB weld doesn't help. Even Resin doesn't help. The key to getting T-nuts to work with MDF is to NOT use them in MDF. Use a different type of insert, OR put another type of wood behind the baffle where the T-nuts will go. Plywood, harwood, or OSB work great for this. They provide a better "bite" for the T-nuts and are not prone to separation like the manufactured woods such as PB and MDF.
