This kid claimed to do 139.9db which I don't mind...he was running 2 12" MTX 5500 subs, with a kenwood amp. Next thing I noticed is that he had a sticker on his back glass that says "135db+ at the head rest".

I was like why dont you meter it at the dash, he was like if I do that I will hit 145db, and when I do the db comp I dont burp because it would kill the competition. Thats what he told me....

Those subs was in a pre-fab box probably 1cuft per sub ported....

Then I let my system wang for a little bit, lets say the people on the other side of the parking lot managed their way over to my car to see what that noise was or where it was coming from. They thought it was the funnest thing that I had my styrofoam plate with hotdog on top of the car and it was flopping all over the place.

Once again, people was impressed by a company that they never heard of...

And this one guy felt this small *two fingers close together", he was like just wait til I get 4 10" in my car...! haha

140.5 at the dash with a sine wave car off and on stock electrical. Maybe 141 or 142 with a burp and an upgraded battery.

when you burp, you actually play a single tone. which IS a sine wave.

ahh I didnt mean a sine wave then....it was a tone sweep 35-45hz. I own a 15" BL.

There is no general rule as to what will meter louder with everything up in the air. If you just put it in there with little placement tuning - it could go either way.

But if you fool around with placement and tuning you could get 2 results *depending on how you tune*

If you tune by ear (generally in the seat) or with mic at headrest - you'll get louder at the headrest.

If you tune with a mic at the dash - you'll obviously get louder at the dash.

edit: what this tells us is that typical systems that can afford placement and tuning (unlike my roomates single-cab S10, his 15 doesn't have many options for placement) can generally hit higher at the headrest because people tune them by ear. I would also guess they'd peak lower in frequency because we all know how low notes make us feel

Generally, a system is louder on the dash.

Unless it is specifically built to be louder @ the headrest. Even then, the dash will usually still be slightly louder.

I don't got the meters or any fancy gadgets... don't have a science degree BUT i do know my dash sure as hell shakes more then my headrest LOL
