I just got my 15" Q in the mail yesterday and it looks awesome. Today I got my RF T10001bd amp. Took a look at the birthsheet and it says 1603rms @1ohm. ALOT OF POWER! Do you guys think this is to much power to give to my 15" Q? The sub will be in a ported enclosure at 32hz. The bench test power rating was at 14.4 volts. I just dont want to damage my sub, do you guys think this is to much power to feed my Q?

Nothing says you have to run that amp wide open either

Overhead meaning more power to use if needed?...Well in response to the other posts, I was pretty much thinking I was gonna hook it all up and then just set the amp and gain etc. to where it sounds good. I assume to not use all the amps potential power I should just keep the gain lower then I normally would or what...also that power rating was at 14.4v and I am not sure I have that voltage coming from my alternator. I dont have the big 3 upgrade or anything. So how do I give me Q enough power but not to much?

you might be clipping it and making the power dirty. creating excessive heat.

i could send my Q 1500w of clean power all day, or i could burn it up with 800w of dirty power in 5 minutes. set your gains and bass boosts properly and you wont have any problems.

I was not going to use the bass boost at all, and just level out the gain until it sounds good...pretty much what i thought at least?

id set the wattage to about 1500 watts rms with the bass knob on full and the headunit up as loud as it goes clearly. that way you can drive around with the bass knob down and when you crank it up, you know your only sending a max of 1500 watts to the sub. i think the formula is: voltage=square root of (watts x ohms). use a digital multimeter to set your gains and you wont have problems. somebody will come by and correct my formula if its wrong

Gains are set properly, no bass boost, bass knob turned down to off, the built in parametric eq on the D3, all the low frequencies are below zero, sub out level on HU from -6 to +6 sitting at 0...so no dirty power here

Yes I just meant room to make sure you aren't clipping. You can cleanly power your sub instead of overworking your amp to try to get there.

I have a US Amps USA-2000x (2000 watts) on 1 Q12. It starts to smell if I unmercifully beat on it for 15-20 minutes. Otherwise, I've never had an issue and it seems to handle everyday use pretty well. Keep in mind that I'm not very abusive either.

If you got a HO alternator and some dry cell batteries and a few runs of 0/1 I'd be cautious cause you would in fact be capable of 1600+....

Though I believe the Q can comfortable handle upwards of 1500
