Posted June 4, 200718 yr Ok so I have an Fi BTL. And my car is a hyundai tiburon. The sub is 15 inches.Right now it is in a box i built for my old 15 inch type R.The box is not made of MDF it is made of particle board. The box is 2.83 cubes and it is tuned to about 34hz. I am Building a new box tonight which will be made out of mdf, dimensions will be height=16.5 width=36 depth=15.5 with a 3 inch port and tned to 34hz. it will give me 3.56cubes. Do you think I will notice an actual differnce in sound from this?
June 4, 200718 yr yea ur gonna need to give that some more air to breathe. at least 5 cubes, with a lil bigger port
June 4, 200718 yr Author so my port right now is 3 inches wide 11.75 inches long where it will bend to another 7 inches for a total port lenght of 24 and a port area of 45. Will that be ok?
June 4, 200718 yr i dunno if they thought u were using a single 3" round port or what, but it was unclear, and i think it should be ok with 45in^2 of port area.
June 4, 200718 yr Author Yea I should have specified that it is a slot ported box.I hit 143dbs with my old box in comp on a tl at the dash. It was on music, song was actually bossy by kellis, and I hit 142.6 on throw it up.This is done with a Hifonics Hercules and with a BTL with only cooling option.

June 4, 200718 yr I'm of the opinion that you NEED more port area. But that's just me.The net volume is fine of you're going STRAIGHT SPL...but then you will want more port area.If you're going for spl/sq then you need more volume, and then youll need more port area.imVho...
June 4, 200718 yr Author Problem is I dont have much more room then this16.5 H 36w and 16max deep. I can't really think of a better design then what I had
June 4, 200718 yr You never specified if you were going for spl or or loud daily car. Either way I'd like a bit more space and port area, but obviously if those are the dimensions you have to work with you cant afford to really increase either. I'd make sure you router the port openings, but I still think you'll have a bit of port noise. If for a loud daily car, I'd tune a little lower to help smooth out the response a bit. Just my opinion.Honestly though, if it looks good to you try it.
June 7, 200718 yr Author This is for a daily drive but I do goto comps also.Ok so ive been trying to get a lil more space but all I have is16.5 deep 16.5high and 36 wideI tried changin a bit but still the most i am coming out with is3.5 inch wide slot port going back and a ben with 12 more inches of port. 33hz tuning. 3.563 cubes or this3 inch wide port bend 7 more inches and 3.833 cubes.
June 7, 200718 yr If that's all you have, try it. If you have port noise you could try the same box w/ more port area, but I don't think there's any one definite answer out there. Edited June 7, 200718 yr by tejcurrent
