Posted June 6, 200718 yr being that the BTL is more spl oriented<<--- or does it matter if a sub is spl oriented?how does it handle the lows?
June 6, 200718 yr It's going to depend on the enclosure it's placed in, as to whether it reproduces the "lows" well...kind of a vague term.Nothing that says a good SPL driver has to sacrifice low end extension.
June 6, 200718 yr There are factors that make some drivers better than others, but it mostly comes down to moving a ton of air and having the right enclosure for the right space.
June 6, 200718 yr Author i was asking cause i got a crazy idea of putting a 12" BTL in my reg. cab Sierra (wanted a 10 but not made for daily use)and i was wondering how it would do in the lows. didnt know if it would hit lows good or not, because its mostly used for spl. now that i know its up to box size and tuning ill just have to play with it.
June 6, 200718 yr What do you have for power and approx space? A BTL may or may not be the best choice for your application, and seeing that your are interested in one (and the associated pricepoint) we might be able to figure something that would do even better for the same cost/space.Thanks,Scott

June 7, 200718 yr i would get one btl 12 throw it in the cab on a T2k (easy on THE gain though, T2k's aint no joke) then in the long run being as you want a ground pounder.........going all out here.....8 btl 12's in the bed on 4 T2k's or if you wanna really pound get 8 B)
June 7, 200718 yr As far as the lows question, RIckRolled knows what he's saying- enclose will tell the final story. I would contact Scott (Ficaraudio), I'm sure he'll get you set up. I like either one of those 2 amps, the rf2k or the kicker 2500. I think those RFs are dead sexy though... While the BTLs are rated 2k, I wouldn't be afraid to give them more than that.http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/ has a decent list of amps to compare.Good luck.
June 7, 200718 yr Author thanx on the input, just waitng for Scott to see the my reply to his post see what he thinks, and what he'll suggest
June 7, 200718 yr I got 4 BTL 18s with each in 6.5 cubes @ 35hz each. They HAMMER the lows like ive never heard. Its so violent im afraid to turn it up on the real low lows for fear of my car!In the right enclosure, they will pound so low its rediculous.

June 7, 200718 yr Its so violent im afraid to turn it up on the real low lows for fear of my car! With a tuning that high, it's likely you won't hear the "real low lows" anyway.
June 7, 200718 yr I don't know RIckRolled. I know you know your stuff, but just my 2 btls tuned a little below 35 gets those lows pretty violently. With the filters on I don't let it play much below 25hz for the woofers sake, but with them off it was very uncomfortable, even below 20hz. While I didn't hear much below 25hz, I felt an aweful pressure on my ears- everything moved up and down slowly but so far it didn't look safe for the car. So I think with that much power/subs it could still be good. May not be anywhere near where it is at 40hz, but I bet it's still uncomfortable to sit in.

June 7, 200718 yr i have my BTL 18 in about 7.5-7.9 cuft tuned to ~31 hz and the lows are beastly. my rear window leaks now, maybe from the bass or maybe old truck, idk, but since im on an FI forum lets say its the sub is doin it. it nearly pops out when i play some low stuff.
June 8, 200718 yr Mines tuned to 35hz and I wouldnt second guess tuning a little higher even. The lows that the subs produce in the enclosure I got em in is just wicked. On a 30hz note, it looks like both of the side view mirror assemblys are going to break off.Idk, its just scary seeing my car flex like that. I kinda dont like it to be honest!

June 8, 200718 yr yeah go to realm, im the second video in the FI section its when i only had 1800 rms on it. i got 2400 rms now you can also see a pic or two on my cardomain page. http://www.cardomain.com/id/crabmaster596http://www.realmofexcursion.com/videos/FiC...dio/btl18.2.wmvtheres the link for the realm vid.
June 9, 200718 yr Author after seeing the vid i dont think its cause the truck is old its def. the sub
