Posted July 12, 200718 yr He He. Big thanks to Aaron!! Mark, I must say, you really outdo yourself. A $20 driver that performs like drivers five times the cost AND you have the audacity to include form fitting grills AND hardware. Mach 5 Audio, the pinnacle of the poor man's music! being broke never sounded so good. Now, on to the goodies. What is this mess on my driver?
July 12, 200718 yr i liked them better before you took the stuff off, lolwheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
July 12, 200718 yr Admin what size of drivers are they? 10's6.5"I really is surprising the high level of build quality of a speaker of this cost. I think we should paint all the baskets green and blue.
July 12, 200718 yr Author i liked them better before you took the stuff off, lolwheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I didn't take anything off. It's what I applied. Modeling clay goes on all my drivers to help defeat frame resonances.Aaron, again, big thanks! We'll be doing business again SOON.
July 12, 200718 yr I've heard you talking about doing that before, but in a car environment wouldn't the clay melt and drip off?
July 12, 200718 yr I've heard you talking about doing that before, but in a car environment wouldn't the clay melt and drip off?Nope, gets pretty soft but doesn't melt. A bit might drop off, but again you are adding mass so if you lose a little it isn't that big of a deal. Regrettably it isn't something I dare do to the Seas with the coil showing.Looks good Ryan, I can't wait to see what you do with them.
July 12, 200718 yr "...being broke never sounded so good."Hahaha! I like it! That should be the next slogan.Curious tho, why would you put clay on a cast basket that is so small to begin with?m
July 12, 200718 yr Author I do it to ALL my drivers, even subs. I don't care what size it is. I take every precaution I can. While I have you here Mark, what is the thread size/pitch on the screws that come with these?
July 12, 200718 yr I believe they are #8 - 1 1/4" black Phillips wood screws. I can verify that when I get home..m

Modeling clay goes on all my drivers to help defeat frame resonances.Aaron, again, big thanks! We'll be doing business again SOON.what?By defeat resonances he means to shift them. Works just like a constrained mass layer (aka sound deadening) that you would put on panels in your car. In the case of a speaker it can defeat modal bending that potentially could color the sound at the natural frequency of the basket itself. Think of it as changing the tone that a bell rings at, in this case the bell is the frame of the speaker.
July 12, 200718 yr Author I believe they are #8 - 1 1/4" black Phillips wood screws. I can verify that when I get home..mIt's actually a fine thread machine screw. I thought it was an 8-32, but it will not fit my inserts, nor my die.I do it to ALL my drivers, even subs.Even the Red 3rd gen claw? It's a 4th gen actually, but no, not that. If I weren't going to mount it inverted, I would.
July 13, 200718 yr Author Best money I've spent on drivers in quite some time. I only have a little bit of play time with these, but in a well-deadened door and some power, these babies are midbass monsters!
July 15, 200718 yr Author Ryan, if you have time put up a little review?I will once everything is 100%.
July 16, 200718 yr These will be going into the Bonne once everything is in place. Can't wait to dump the Bose.
July 23, 200718 yr what is the frequency response of these??? How high can you high cross them over at??
