  1. Hope it isn't a lemon!

    Won't be, its a Bm'er. :P

Chevy, your gonna have fun getting a system into that thing it is a beyotch but fun car. Definetely an upgrade for a "Chrysler" guy. Crazy to go shopping for a car and buy one on the same day. Even when I know what I want it takes me a month or two to find the right deal.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

  2. Thanks Dennis. Here is the less clean portion of the install, the trunk.l I just finished balancing the amps and doing a once over on the wiring. As you can see my amp rack is a board painted to match the sub box with everything bolted to it. Please ignore the RCA's as they were what I had lying around, in the next weeks I will be making some that are the right length to hide the rest of the cabling. They too will then go into wire loom. Here it is:

  3. About 2 years ago I removed a system that was "blown" for a guy and put his headunit in his new car--loose wires the only problem. For payment he gave me his blown amp and two kicker subs. I sold the subs cheap to a buddy and kept the amp. Since my car is mostly done I thought I would put something in the truck. I was wondering if any of you had heard anything about the amp. All I found is a random post saying it is 40x4 + 80wx1 or 80wx3 (@4ohm).

I would like to use it to power my fronts and my sub. I have not selected a sub to use yet.

The appealing part of it is that it looks like it is truly class A. I didn't notice this until today when I started to look online to find info on it, but right on the front it says:

Non NFB/Non Switching Class A Amp

So if anyone knows if the power is right and if I can run it down to 1 ohm (might do a pair of 8's under the rear seat) that is mostly what I am looking for. It seems like this is an old SQ relic, but maybe just a POS that someone liked somewhere.

Any thoughts? Here is a link to pics (not mine)

  4. As Flakko says, no problems at all as long as you know how to set your gains correctly. Very similar to the power I am running to my setup, enough overhead so you don't need to hardly even bump the gains. Set them with a DMM or Oscope and you will be fine. If you don't know what clipping/distortion sounds like you shouldn't do those by ear.

  5. haha yes it is fun! and in Big parkinglots

Or in city streets to parallel park on the other side, or for going around corners, or for generally pissing off all cars around you.

If you pedal stuck to the floor adding fluid won't help, you need a master cylinder. However, I am NOT recommending this but if it were me I would drive the car home using the E-brake to stop. It does not use your master cylinder, but beware your stopping distance will be AT LEAST three times as long. I wouldn' t go fast either, just turn on the emergency's and put home..

    Good luck

  6. Music download = porn for carrying disease for the pc indeed.

Jmac, you find IE faster than Firefox??? Complete opposite on my pc and it is very noticeable. Most of the website compatibilities were fixed with the last update or so too. Except of course the ones for my company.

You can surely use all the software to knock this out, but being a Windows machine being ready to format at any time will save you lots of headaches. You just never have to be worried about what happens then. I had 3 formats caused by spyware that were not picked up by Spybot, Adaware, and Micro Anti-Spy within 4 months. Like you I will blame the woman or visiting friends  but nonetheless it taught me to be ready. Now I do it to maximize resources: driver only, no software installs for all peripherals will speed up your machine lots.

  7. yea, i just found that... lol
We should get ahold of Adire and have them design us a subwoofer.  The SSA Special.

What do I want?  A high efficiency (~95db/w/m), high excursion (25-28mm), low inductance (<1.25mH), mid Q (.35-.45), moderatley low Fs (<27hz), 18" subwoofer for IB use that'll work off of 500w or less for under $300.  Basically a higher excursion IDW18 with a few tweaks.

    Anybody in with me?!?

I haven't played with it to see how "realistic" this woofer is....but it sure sounds fun :D

    :ohsnap:

Heard back from Adire......this is what they said they could do:

    Fs: 22 Hz

    Qms: 5.2

    Qes: 0.42

    Qts: 0.39

    Vas: 670 liters

    Sd: 1180 cm^2

    Xmax: 28mm one way

    SPL: 94.1 dB @ 1W, 1m

    Re: 3.9 Ohms

    Le: 1.5 mH

    BL: 14 N/A

    Mms: 152 grams

    Cms: 0.35 mm/N

With a price tag of around $250 each for an order of 12 :woot:

Le came in a *little* high, but .25mH I ain't going to complain about :P Efficiency was only down .9db from what I was hoping.

Damn!! If I can find (atleast) 11 other people, I just might gosh darned do this!

Interesting, to say the least. OT: I love the way that they (Dan & Co.) plan drivers. VD would be proud, lol. Though, DW > VD far as i know. sorry. i'm loopy today. sick.

uhhh... Even IB, I dont have 23 cu. ft.

Do You know VC specs? (guage, dia., winding length, dual/single)?

and were those the estimated grpahs above?

I might be in for one.

I also think that I'll trash the conversations that I've had with Thilo.. that unloving bastard.

    Actually yes, I do:

we'll use our 44 Magnum motor, 44mm thick top plate, XBL^2,

3" diameter voice coil, 180mm diameter magnets. It uses a 4 layer, copper clad aluminum wire, 3" diameter voice coil.

22 AWG wire, with a winding length of 33.5mm. Single 4ohm nominal coil.

And yes, the driver isn't built yet....so those would have to be estimated graphs.

And yeah....true IB would take some room. Toss one in a trunk and it will probably have some affect on the driver in an acoustic suspension sense......but not much.

And yes....so far Adire is great to deal with. Very friendly and extremely prompt response!

You'll have to count me out,I cant do a single 4 coil.

Nor can I do IB in a SUV.

    You can try!

    LOL

  8. Got it hot as possible with a hair dryer, way way way stretchier but couldn't figure out how to hold/glue/stretch all at once. I almost made a jig to hold the fabric taut so I could just push on it, but thought it would be easier to sand for paint since it was pretty close already. The painted pods actually look pretty cool installed, perhaps better than the vinyl would. It matched my leather, but the shiny paint makes the shiny parts of the plastic look at home.

    Thanks for the tips though!

  9. I hate to tell you but it sounds like you will have to reformat.

I suggest you get a backup HD and keep all vital info on it.  That way if you get a virus detected you can go through the infected one and get the files that you need off it and reformat the other.  then make another copy like last time.

    or

    Get a mac :P

Or stay off the porn and use FIREFOX!!!

Sorry, but true. If you have Winsuck XP/2K/98 you need to use Firefox and be ready to format twice a year. You need a backup HD and learn to save what you want to keep on it. It will make life in the next few years, much less stressful. Especially if you keep music, long install video games, and/or digital pictures on your pc. 300gb drives are now $110 so it is pretty easy.

Not trying to pick on you, it will just really make things easier for anybody in this situation. I format every 3-4 months just out of habit....

  10. Yea I did go a lil overboard on the front baffle but ahh well . I'm going to carpet it .

If you think that is overboard, you should take a look at mine. Nice work with the carpet. Have to show us what it looks like installed.

  11. Awesome transaction with Squeak9798. Bought a Coustic DX-28 from him. Paypal'd on Thursday evening the crossover was shipped on Friday and arrived to me on Monday. Wrapped very professionally and safe. The DX-28 was also in better shape than promised as he described the two inconsequential teeny scratches as scratches. Would do business with him in a heartbeat or even Escrow for someone else with Squeak. He also took the time to promptly answer questions about it during my install.

    Thanks Squeak9798!

  12. Squeak, I wish I still had my 68 Galaxy Fastback. Huge rear deck held 3 15's when I owned it, ran them sealed firing into the car but they went the way of a car audio thief while the car was being serviced no less. A pair of what you are brewing would be awesome IB in the rear deck...

I would love one, but currently have no space for 18". Thought about in wall home theatre sub though. Would be cool in a new build house as you could reinforce that section of the wall. A bit of a pain in a remodel.
