  1. Which would you rather have....

    94 Accord 2dr Manual with 180,000+ miles.

Has an alright stereo,CAI, headers, catback exhaust, rims W new tires, lowering springs. Needs some paint work and thats about it (clear coat is fading)

Please note, the car is not setup for " racing" thats how my step brother bought it.

Outside looks completyl stock  besides the rims and muffler

    OR

    95 Saturn SL1 4 door Automatic with 108,000 miles

Cassete radio, everything else is stock. Couple chips in the paint.

I'd pick the Honda exclusively cause the Saturn is dog slow. That says something since I really, really won't drive a Japanese car. (being 6'8" I look and feel ridiculous in all of them, plus they don't trade with the US so screw 'em).

However, if that Honda has really been beat on which noting the performance parts I would then defer and take the Saturn. Actually with any car with that many miles try and buy the one that has been taken better care of. It will go along way in saving you money on it in the future.l

  2. I'm REALLY sick of working on my car in the cold!

65* here today. It was 80* over x-mas and new years...MOVE HERE NOW!

Once my car is payed off, I'm gone. Probably to SC with my buddy, but who knows. It would be really nice to see the ocean. Never have before. In FACT, I've never been farther than a bordering state of Indiana. My life sucks.

Dang, never seen the ocean huh. You're missin out, ocean weather is awesome and ocean sunsets > any other sunset.

There are three other sunsets you should see before you die.

    1) On a big Northern Lake...a lot like the ocean but being we are further North the sun takes a different path

    2) Really far up North where you can watch the sunset turn into Northern Lights

    3) Up high in the Mountains--I have seen it set in the Rockies, the Appalachians, and the Andes (the Andes were the best but hey they are honkin' high)

The ocean is pretty sweet though, but hopefully soon I will live on lake front here and get to see it every night--try and afford that in Cali

  3. I realize it isn't possible to use a true measurement mic, but I am sure that the db variations from pressure sensor to sensor is well more than the uncertainty that they show the score to. Reporting tenths of a db is just a bit silly in my book.

As for the headrest variation, what we use for doing Sound Quality testing on vehicles is a Head and Torso simulator outfitted with ear canals and mics in each ear. Deadly setup for being accurate and repeatable, but again at $25k I know why they aren't being used in SPL comps.

  4. Yup. Thats why Db Drag is the premier auto sound competition. Its the most "legal" and straight up score. No doors open bs.

Lol, i always get a kick out of these comments. :)

If you want the most legal, meter at the headrest. Afterall, that's what YOU hear when you play your stereo. ;)

I don't see too many people sticking their head in the kick or on the windshield and saying "damn, thats loud" :slayer:

That and the repeatability and consistency of the measurement mics they use is a joke as well. It should never be XXX.x db's. Ask any acoustician and they will tell you measuring tenths of a db is not real. The environment can change that quickly, and they use $2k mics with $2k+ power supplies not even counting the analyzer. IMO if it isn't a Bruel & Kjaer or a real competitors measuring device it is weighted strange. That and they don't use C weighting on measuring their response curves. Anything over 120dB should be measured with C weighting and I do like the headrest idea.

I actually know nothing about competitions as I have never witnessed one or been to one, but in my previous job all I did was measure acoustics with a $100k analyzer--which I still have regular access to :)

  5. Sorry Jntar didn't mean to make you close the new SQ car thread earlier. It is just hard to have a nice reaction to someone when they say that you don't know what you are talking about--especially when it comes to wrenching on cars. I drive 50k miles plus a year and do my own wrenching. Needless to say I have owned a bit of everything and of course am pretty opinionated (sp?) because of it.

  6. I saw this totally messed up car today.

The whole back was smashed in, no bumper cover. The actual bumper was 1/2 way on and was being held up with a bungy cord. Same with the trunk, bobbing up and down on bumps.

I also noticed it had a nice lean to the left side.....back left suspension was shot, wheel had a nice negative camber to it

Where I live we call that a ResRunner. Not PC, but regretably a true scenario. Some of the reservations up here are nuts. Whenever MN makes the news for shootings in schools or nutso kids it is almost always off the res. Of course, seeing something like that in the city would just scare me away from wanting to know who was driving it.

  7. I need some sort of light attatched from my hip to my large intestine.  When a fart is going to stink, the light goes off.

If you find one let me know, I could find lots of good uses for the stinky ones.

You don't need to get a card, just give her one of those pepperoni sticks right out of your coat pocket. It will get you azz anytime! Just don't set off the light when giving it to her.

  8. You know...I was thinking about doing my install myself but I think I'll make an appointment with you so we can get it done in 1/4 the time it would take me.  ...and not to mention the glass work will look better also.  :)

    Good idea, that looks nice!

  9. Just gonna step out and look at another house since the d1ck I made an offer to on New Years Eve is ignoring me. I am shocked, it is a for sale by owner and the owner won't respond to an offer?? Aargh, hopefully this one is nicer!

  10. Did you move it yourself?  That sounds like a beyotch...

    LOL

If i did that you wouldnt see me on the internet ever again.

That sucker is SOOOO HEAVY !

My pops, big bro and myself moved it.

The thing is like solid steel in the inside. No wonder its so friggin heavy.

beyotch is putting it loosely, its far worse than that.

Umm, that is still "yourself". I am surprised you guys can walk after that 3 people and a piano is still a beyotch!

  11. Well, that works for me.  I owe your brother a check, I could just add a couple bucks to it?  At least it is my understanding you are bro's.  Still need an address, or confirmation that the one on the box is right.  Thanks for the shipment too!

    That would prob be eaiser.

    I still have your addy.

Doh, just sent you a PM. I will blast off a check today! Thanks for the instantaneous shipment, if I don't hear from you by tonight it will just come to the address on the box.

  12. ^^ don't even listen to this guy...maxima hard to work on??  yea right...  a GS or max rice-fed??  wtf is that supposed to mean?  do you even know what you're talking about??? "intrinsically balanced"???  are you a RETARD?!?!?!  do you mean INTERNALLY balanced??  last i checked, pretty much all japanese cars these days are internally balanced...also has any BMW motor gotten nearly as many awards as a nissan VQ???  nope.  VQ's also don't have timing belts so quit your trash talking.  you act like bmw's are God's gift to the automotive world..

i must say though, if you want an SQ car...don't get a 00~03 maxima even though you can drive that bish to 200k miles easily..go with the 4runner or lexus...possibly the camry.  if you want to be a pimp though get a max ;)

Yep, hard to work on. Lets have a contest to see if you can yank the head off of a Maxima faster than me on a 3 series Bm'er. I will even let you just yank one of the two and see. V's are always harder to work on and ARE NOT intrinsically balanced and NEED balance shafts. Straight sixes do not need a balance shaft to be internally balanced. IMO V6's are always a bad idea I6, V4 and V8 however are great.
