  1. LMAO. I'm sorry dude, this is the funniest pic evAR

    box56iy.jpg

Oh chit, it took me like 10 minutes to read the post to here since I am laughing so hard. This is indeed the funniest pc evAR!

My stomache hurts. Please, please come to my house I will gladly make you one for free, a double even just bring that board over so I can really take a look at it even though I am not sure my stomache can take it.

  2. If you build in quantity you source parts from where you get the right parts (read best within reason) for the dollar. Quite frankly it is not surprising that it is Korea or another East Asian country as labor is cheap and frequently much more detail oriented than American. Usually they are assembled here because the one thing that a lot of Asian manufacturing services lack is German like quality control, thus when you hand assemble here you get to check over the parts and use the ones you want. Sourcing a capacitor or PCB or something from an outsourced manufacturer just makes sense, building it all in house doesn't. I am glad that they do enough here to mark it Made in the USA though as it makes me more likely to buy it and feel better about the quality as I am more aware of the final build quality.

  3. :woot::woot:

    party at Steve's!

    Oh yeah. Everyone's invited.

Cover charge is one female per male entering my property. I'm not a fan of frat boy sausage fests.

But I thought you were Canadian? I have always heard that Canadians like sausage fests.

  4. ATTN MODS/ADMIN

I dont know how to contact you  all about this but im having problems with my profile settings.

Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.

    The error returned was:

You must complete the form fully before proceeding. Please go back and check the data you entered.

Yep, been that way for me too. Can't do chit.

  5. Has anyone every tried using finger joints or dovetails on a sub box?

Errr, probably not with MDF. Not that it wouldn't hold up with a lot of glue but my yearly limit of profanities would probably fly in the process of trying. As for your bracing question, stiffer is better as it will flex less. Ash is not as strong as a threaded steel rod, but if it placed well it is fine. I needed to compensate a little volume on my last box and just used 2x2 for bracing. If you do use wood and not a rod, make sure to attach it really well as it needs to brace in both compression(the wood itself) and tension(your screws and glue). If you are wondering on locations of where, look at your box and imagine where it would flex the easiest and put it there. IMO you shouldn't ever "center" your bracing though as the two pieces of box you just separated will now share the same acoustic bending mode. Just move it off by a couple of inches and you should be fine.

  6. i suck....i cant cut worth crap. i need your saw supa!

If it is a normal box, you can have Home Depot cut your mdf for you. I did that for a few boxes that "I" built for others. Just sent them to the HD with dimensions, they stopped over I bolted them together, routed the speaker hole, glued on fabric and wham--box in 30 minutes. At the one near my house, the first 6 cuts are free the rest are a $0.25 each. Means you have to buy new MDF for each box, but it was cheaper than the saw.

Actually I still have them do some cutting as I bought a garage sale radial arm saw instead of a table saw (I hate friggin table saws not only do you occasionally screw something up I swear it feels like you are going to cut your fingers off when you use 'em). Since the radial only does like 30" cuts I have them cut the pieces into manageable size, plus who really likes to cut 4'x8' pieces, they are heavy and akward!

  7. I couldnt help but notice that pimp sharp cd player.

oh ya, lookin good so far

Garage toons baby! With all the dust and chit I keep wrecking all other garage systems. I have gone through about 8 $10-20 receivers and finally gave up, that darn boombox won't die!

And Tirefryr, I will indeed post some shots of the bimmer when the stereo is done and I give her a good rub down.

  8. It would be much better if they would make the little boombox they have with RCA outs. Then one unit could go from car, house, boat and so on. The antenna crap is a pain in the ass and $50.

Anyone know where to source extra antenna's cheap?

I definetely like Sirius better than XM....

  9. Got Sirius and wouldn't know what to do without it. Usually I listen to CD's, but when you drive as much as I do listening to sports, news, talk shows and such becomes appealing. Sirius has WAY better stations that are talk focused. Plus they carry all the NFL & NBA games. Bonus if you play fantasy football--24hr football network. Generally the music stations on both are sort of lame, but better than local radio at least since you can choose a genre.

  10. You've only been into audio for 2 months and know enough to buy that quality of equipment in your sig? I wish I would have known about all the good brands when I started.

You guys helped a lot! Everything that I know is from here, DIYMA, & ECA. Spent some time getting frustrated at CA and of course read a bit with no posts a SI.net

Really started here though as originally I was going to use my infinities and just get a new sub that fit in a smaller box. Then I went overboard!!!

  11. Oh and way back in the day I had 3 JL 1500GTi's in my 68 Ford with a bunch of Rockford Amps. It pretty much shook the piss out of the car, I won't say it sounded great but it did bump.

    Thanks for the compliment Dennis.

  12. Do notice the word REALLY in front of into. I tend to do a lot of research before I buy things these days.

My previous install included the amps that I have now and 2 JLW04 and Infinity components. It never impressed me so I started looking right at the beginning of September when I bought my M5,
