Sound Deadening

Treatments for vibration control, noise mitigation or maximizing SPL

  1. Started by AFDoc,

I upgraded speakers in Challenger and with better bass comes a little vibration in the rear package tray. It's installed correctly, just rattling/vibrating over and behind the sub. I placed a small piece of rubber between the tray and the rear window and that helped some but on some notes still getting the rattle. Any easy fixes here?

This is a dumb question I'm sure. I've searched here and on the web and still haven't found an answer. Even looked at the Mazda install pics. I'm happy to have a big box here in front of me from a Mr Don. I've seen pics of the cod tiles installed on the outer door skin and other pics of it on the inner. By inner I am refering to where the door panel mounts. Which is correct? My goal is to block road noise and help improve the sound quality of my mids. I do have MLV to mount on as well. And I didi figure out where that goes lol. Thanks!

Good morning ladies! I just wanted to inform you that I am now a proud owner of B-Stock CLD Tiles straight from Don @ SDS.... I skipped using the forum since I had some random questions for him... (a/s/l) kind of stuff... Not really? Anyway, so I ordered a bunch and if all goes well I will be not only doing my 2003 Camry but the lady's 2010 Honda as well... Give it some quietness... I will post some pictures when I receive my packages.. Another thing I'd like to mention, Don is awesome... Mentioned my license plate problems on the trunk lid and he immediately got back to me and offered a sample CCF for the plate to create a barrier between the two metals... What an amazi…

  9. Has anybody tried putting anytype of liquid deadener on the inside of their plastic door panels? Ive been looking at edead v5 ctherm and second skin spectrum/sludge and was wondering if anybody had any good results without having to put any type of sound deadening tiles before hand.

  10. So I'm a complete newbie when it comes to sound deadening. I know of the materials used and such after reading on SDS and such years ago. I was recommended to just use CLD tiles when I queired don years ago, but as far as the process of applying it and using it properly I'm not very knowledgeable and have no experience. I've been running my SSD 18 for almost 4 years now without any sound deadening. However, I'm looking for the cheapest solution to my problem. My system is in my signature. I just added the two new amps to my build, and my sub is receiving a lot more power. More power = louder = more rattles. It's very unfortunate, and my cars an 89' so it's pretty easy t…

Hey all I'm looking to add some sound deadener to my vehicle but not looking to do the entire vehicle. Just trying to get the spots on the car that will help out the most. Around the speakers? A few Strips on the outer door panel? On the hatch? Just looking to get a small kit maybe 10-20sq ft. I'm just doing a budget build and not trying to spend too much. I figure with this product some is better than none.

I haven't done any sounddeading yet. the only really bad rattle you hear on my car are the sides mirrors. when i open the door they stop. would CLD on the doors stop this(i guess by preventing the vibration from reaching the mirrors) or is there any way to deaden the mirrors without seeing anything extra on them. they are the foldable mirrors by the way

can MLV be stacked to provide better results? for instance if one has 1/8" 1lbs per sq/ft can you put two layers on to get double or close to double the effectiveness? if so how should the sheets be orientated? front to front, back to back, or in the same direction? you couldn't glue it together right, because that would lessen its effectiveness? when installing into doors it should be affixed around the edge but left relatively free floating other than that, right? my understanding is if its rigidly stuck down that it will lessen its ability to absorb sound.

After googling around and not having any luck I decided to post here because of the "vibration control" topic in this forum. I would like to mount my amplifier on the back of my box without rattling it to death. I have looked at some youtube videos ( and it looked like he has only a mdf board between his amp and box. I was looking and found several things on the net but lots of them are expensive:Silicone Anti-Shock mats Rubber Screws Anti - Shock pads Anti vibration mats I do have some of the foam they use to sound deaden recording studios so I was thinking just putting three or four mats of that sandwiched between either a soft or hard piece of wood to mount my amp on…

Okay here directly i am going to be ordering some cdl tiles and perhaps a roll of MLV but my question is, if i put the mvl on to block engine noise would peeling the firewall off the center console insert and puting it behind there and then under my carpet on my floor work to block the engine noise. and in my van would it be easier/cheaper to use dynamat on the back walls and just cdl the doors just need a little extra tips on what i can do. thanks fellas

  18. Okay so for those of you who don't know what vehicle I have, It's a 1997 2door jeep wrangler hardtop. The hardtop is made of polycarbonate, plastic, something you get the idea. So it flexes a good bit and wanted to hear what you guys would suggest for fixing it. Would cld tiles soak up some of the flex? just trying to brace the plastic so my sound output isn't wasted Heres some pics:

So after installing my Cs60CF, I could not believe how bad the woofers sound It sounds as if they were distorting, and thats with all EQs off, no bass boost or anything. So I talked to denim and we concluded it could be the doors. They are not deadened. I just replaced factory speakers and place the new ones (i know, i know, but i didnt think it was gonna sound this bad). So I came to the conclusion that to enjoy my midbass and not have to lower the 125hz band to -3, I need to (just learned this) seal the doors. Seriously, my midbass is dead cause I cant rise the volume or else the woofers will start to sound nasty, kinda distorted. Even with EQ on flat. I always have to …

I have a 2007 ram quad cab. I bought a set of hertz energy esk 165.5 comps. I was just thinking about deadening my doors. I emailed don as sds I really don't want to go to that much hassle. I know that you can't seal the door and such. I just was wondering if second skin is any good to put a little deadener on the door. I have not ever deadened a door did a few trunk lids in my day but have never had this nice of front component set.
