Yes the donor has been found. Now they just need the cash. Insurance pretty much bailed on the family since this surgery has not been done very many times. I believe they classified it as ''experimental''.

WOW I had to dig alot but I found specs for the improved version my kove, and remember this is the improved version, and I typed them into WinISD and I was shocked, the response curve was horrible, yes this sub gets damn loud, but the xcon was almost completely flat, and this kove dips down so far its amazing it can sound as good as it does, This xcon is gonna be truly awesome compared to what i'm used to. the difference in 40hz and a 20 hz is a 25db drop,

The loudspeaker circuit includes the connecting wire between the amplifier terminals and the speaker terminals, the amplifier internal impedance and the impedance of the speaker system. The wire could be copper or silver and perhaps coated with solder containing tin. wilson signal booster

Gimme the extra secret pics of the 18" Nightshade please. I know you have em. accualy Im probably the one paying for him to build that extra special nightshade so I want the first look at it EXCUSE ME. As a matter of fact, Im getting a 18 Nightshade. Have you paid for it yet? If so be my guest. Other then that, I don't see why you get to special treatment. My post was only a joke to Jake. Maybe I need to put who Im actually talking to next time, so people like you won't reply to it.

I appreciate the replies , guys. Thank you. I mean zero offence when I say that I gave this a lot of thought and I'm very comfortable with my questions. Reducing weight isn't a matter of debate; it's that or nothing. Thank you very much for your comments and for taking the time to upload a message.

Not to make this into pissing contest. but Ive been involved in audio for almost 30 years, having setup numerous CES high-end systems, not to mention freelaning as a setup pro. And I'm talking about SOTA audio. Clearly, I don't see a point to all of this, as I'm perfectly capable of making my own decisions. All I want to know is if BJ can build a box out of 1/2" material. If he can, I'll place an order. The rest is irrelevant. I'd love to heat from him! BTW, thank you for your input!

I haven't really read this post and wasn't even sure exactly what it was about. I saw a simple question and gave a simple answer. Maybe it…

I considered IB. It would be an ideal solution. Here are the problems. I can't use the doors, as I'm not willing to modify the stock speaker mounts relative to their depth. The rear deck would work if I could isolate it, but that would require sealing every hole in the sheetmetal, and I'm also not willing to do that, either. I wish the car was more better suited for IB, as that's what I'd definitely go with. Plus, IB can make for terrific SQ. So, a small box in the trunk is my only option. I really wish it weren't. It would solve a lot of problems. BTW, I spent way too much time designing an IB setup for my home sub - the one built into my house - and was made aware that…

Pretty much, yes. I've weighed both. Thankfully, BJ doesn't use MDF. Errr..."HUGE?" It's non-rotational, sprung weight with a low center of gravity. "HUGE" is reducing the weight at the wheel. Let's not talk cars/racing, OK? I truly appreciate your advice. I did consider a single-driver option and decided against it for reasons that are irrelevant at this point. Please see the comments above.

If you want lightweight, Baltic birch ply in 3/4" will be the same or less weight than a 1/2" mdf enclosure. Considering weight & SQ are your paramount issues, I would 1) Limit the enclosure material weight, obviously IB is best, small sealed 2nd, 2) Pick my driver based on what it can do, but also with enclosure size as part of the equation, 3) Limit the overall weight of the driver as this will make a HUGE impact on the overall weight. So what am I saying? I'd use a different sub and just a single one. That will give you more weight savings than looking at just the thickness of the enclosure. If you do use both, I would argue that you aren't that concerned with …

Hey, don't be so defensive let's just discuss this. You asked for other ideas, so you are getting them. So let's look at this weight more closely that you want to keep to a minimum. MDF, 3lbs/sq ft, sure Trupan may be 80% of the weight. The box for the pair of 8's will be around .8-.9cuft, so for easy math lets say 1ft (cubed) which is only .67 cuft but with 5 sides the enclosure will weigh 15lbs with MDF and a whopping 10-12lbs with Trupan. Each of your subs is more than the enclosure. If weight were really such a concern, I'd really like to know why using one driver with nearly the same enclosure size and the nearly the same weight wouldn't be actually your goal. Y…

I would, too. Threads like this are a riot! I went through all the boards on SSA over a period if weeks, It seems like threads/needs like mine are rare. I do have other cars, one of which will house a big, heavy enclosure with an amp to match. The bulk of the system will be installed in a couple of weeks. You may hear from me again. {edited a typo}

Sorry to come across that way. It wasn't my intent. It's just that I read dozens of your posts here. Fair enough. What about the 15mm Trupan that BJ will use for the project? Please see above. I don't mean to sound rude, but have you actually read the whole thread? The size of the enclosure, given the space in the trunk and my idea of aesthetics. True. The sub will weigh ~25lbs, hopefully less. <sigh> Must be nice to be a forum "expert." The internal volume of the box will be ~/6ft^3, as I said in a post located inches above yours. How you arrived at .9ft^3 is a mystery. As BJ will use 15mm Trupan - why do I feel like I'm repeating myself - what is your estim…

I ask questions so people can get answers, most are predecided and want someone to just reiterate what they like even if it is the wrong answer. I won't do that. Exactly why I rounded down to 10lbs or 66% of the weight of MDF. It won't be quite that light though. .9 came from ID direct: http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/manuals/iD/ID8D2%20V.pdf .35-.45 is recommended. I used the lower of the two and then added the volume of the two drivers which gets us to .8-.9. I did read that you said .6, but again you ask to have a nice sounding system and for that it means the sub is supposed to play the lows. Putting two of them in that small box won't help with that. As I sai…
