The Hawaii Car Audio community just found out today that the state is trying to pass a law that will make it ILLEGAL to "install, posses, or operate" any aftermarket system including any subwoofers, any speakers exceeding 6.5", any speaker exceeding 100 watts, etc. The bill can be found here: http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/session2011/bills/HB1178_.pdf Most of us are just hearing about this today, and the hearing on the bill is Wednesday, Feburary 9th (yes just 2 days from today). We're trying to get as many people as possible to go down to the hearing on Wednesday (I'll be there), but we're also trying to get as many people as possible to submit testimony opposing this b…

Well, this Monday I started my first ever fiberglass project. I am making doorpods for my DLS 6.3 3-way component set. I started the back half fiberglass enclosures. These will be part of the the sealed enclosure for the midbass. I utilized the factory 5.25" mounting cup, and filled it to create half of a sealed enclosure. This mount/enclosure used to bolt to the sheetmetal of the door, and the plastic doorpanel is mounted in front of it. Since this mount is being replaced with the rear fiberglass enclosure, I am guaranteed a perfect fit, dont have to cut any sheetmetal, eliminate depth concerns, and will seriously increase the imaging, depth, etc.. I removed the OEM spe…

I'm getting ready to install and aftermarket sub and amp to my friends Ford Edge. I have a Stinger LIne Output Converter for the Edge. Problem is....is that they don't make one for the 07'. It's the same wire scheme, but I can't directly hook it up using the factory harness. I was going to cut and splice the wire and hook it up that way, but not sure which wires are positive, negative, and which wire is the ground. I really need your help. Everything is ready to go except this step. Photo of the Factory harness from the Edge. This harness hooked into the factory amp.

Why is this happening? I am running 2 MD3's strapped on 2 HD3 15's, an amp on each sub, and it sounds good but everytime I turn my truck off the subs pop, not like distortion pop but just not a quiet turn off. Is there anything I can do to make it a quiet turn off. It does this with the volume on 0, the shop that was able to strap my amps properly told me that it is normal with large systems. Is this true or is there something that I can do to make it turn off quiet? Is it anything that I need to worry about, is it damaging to the equipment? And my HU is a Kenwood KDC-X891 if that makes a difference. Pretty much what could be causing this? And do I need to worry about it?

Well, the car is in the shop getting a new transmission(6 speed ftw) and a comptech supercharger installed, and i got to thinking...it's time to make my front stage louder. I've got my setup reinstalled and been tuning it myself for the past couple months and it just isn't loud enough for me. I went over to the local hood shop and heard a setup in a maxima that had 1 10" electro voice mid in the door, b&c mid in the kick and a selenium super tweet in the a pillar and it sounded AMAZING. Not only that, it was loud enough to keep up with 3 10" l7's in a 4th order bandpass box. Now i have the itch to try out pro audio drivers. Specs are in the sig but there's been 2 ch…

Is it me or does some of our local audio shop now a days don't know squat about car audio. I decided to start this topic so that people can share any of their experiences with your local audio shop about the shear ignorance of some of these people. I'll share first: I decided to call one of my local car audio shops here in houston,tx just to mess with them and see what they really know about audio. ME: I'm running 3000 watts rms and my lights are dimming. what can I do about that. SHOP: "I have some capacitors here that will help with that. 2 5 farad caps should be enough to stop the dimming. what kind of amps do you have? ME: soundstream and sundown audio. SHOP: whats …

I've searched for answers, but I've not been able to find anything definitive. Sorry, this will not be a short question. On most crossovers that we find on car amplifiers, there is a range silk screened on the crossover, let's say 50 hz. -500 hz. I don't know if the slope actually matters if you can get far enough away from the crossover point or disable the crossover. I believe that the setting on the crossover is the -3bd down point, but there isn't a way to know what your setting it to by looking at the potentiometer and the numbers on the amp. Allot of things I've read on this topic are extremely vague. Maybe I'm not asking the question correctly in my search. Such a…

2002 NBS Chevy Silverado Budget Active SQ System installation: Since I just bought a newer truck, I thought I would share some of the build up with the site. First, I had to define my goals. Being a second car, but one that will get driven a lot installing a system was a necessity to me. Also being that I log lots of hours on the road when I do drive, driver comfort and some extra entertainment was required. In my car, I listen to satellite radio for talk and sports coverage I just wish the fidelity for music was better, but primarily I listen to CD

I recently discovered Patrick Chandler and his shop. Has any body here used any of his subs or amps? The subs look to be very nice with beefy motors and Stiff paper cones. I am thinking about 1 18" "TC Sounds" with the "3 HP" motor. He said it wants around 1500 watts RMS. I have a about 1100 watts RMS to give it. Looking for general input on him and his operation. He seems to be a very nice guy, wondering what you guys think.

I've been looking at some enclosures on ebay, most of time you find yourself looking at shit. I then look at some enclosures from sonix not sure maybe mistaken. They have some decent looking builds, I was wonder if anyone has ever purchased one?. They have a box intended for a lot of the RE's but I was thinking of placing my SSD in one of them, for the time being. Any Ideas... I wouldn't mind going with Fisher Customs, since they're based out of Louisiana... but these enclosures have a pretty nice price not that I remember how much Fisher charges but yeah... any info.. and ideas would help. I am not making my own enclosure.. just to have that in the clear.

Is this a terrible idea? Iv set my gain using the way JL audio reccomends, and i seriously get little output with this way to do it. I basically need to turn my bass boost on my HU from 3 (where i orignally set the gain) up to 7 before i even feel likes my 18" BTL is up to the output my old 10's have. Tips for setting my gains by ear?
