Is it me or does some of our local audio shop now a days don't know squat about car audio. I decided to start this topic so that people can share any of their experiences with your local audio shop about the shear ignorance of some of these people. I'll share first: I decided to call one of my local car audio shops here in houston,tx just to mess with them and see what they really know about audio. ME: I'm running 3000 watts rms and my lights are dimming. what can I do about that. I was at a car audio shop a while back and they had this stuff they called, "Dum-Dum" I think. It came on a roll like tape, but was thick and kind of like putty but sticky as well. Anyone heard of this? \Where can I get some?

I need some pointers on how to begin my build. I have a 86 full size short bed chevy truck and there is no way I can get the kind of sound Im looking for with such little space behind the seat. I want to put the subs in the bed with a blow thru into the cab. Im not looking to compete in SPL or anything like that just want the kind of bass Im use to hearing (just sold my magnum and miss it already). Im running an Alpine CDA 9886 head unit and Kicker 3.5, 6.5 in the cab will be adding components soon. I recently had my blazer broken into, had my FI Q's stolen along with the rest of my setup. Found some RE SR's on craigslist for a good price, so I picked 'em up, and got an autotek ss1000.1d to push them. My '06 civic has a really strange dash, and I was wondering what kind of power and sound quality losses I would suffer if I kept it stock instead of installing my Alpine CDA-9883. Also, I was wondering if anyone had any help as to what LOC would give me the least unwanted noise, and how much it would cost to have one professionally installed by a local car audio shop directly to my rear speakers.

Just finished an install today on a friends car (1994 Toyota Corolla) It consists of the following: Alpine CDA 9884 2 10" Fi SSD (brand new, no options) in a 1.35 cubic foot sealed enclosure BIG 3 (4 AWG) Stock batt up front, Motomaster Elimintaor in the rear 4 AWG wiring throughout Memphis 16-MC1500D @ 2 ohms For some reason, after no more than 10 minutes of test tones (from 25hz to 40hz) at around 75% volume the amp goes in and out of protect mode. All we were trying to do was loosen the woofers up a bit. Car was started, and gains weren't even at full potential. so i didnt know where to put this, but feel free to move it i am doing an overhall on my car and setting up a friends so i figured i would do it right the first time i have installed a few systems, but never but a second battery in a car so im putting the same system in my car and a friends which consists of a 3000W fusion amp, FI BL12 fully loaded subs (dual 2 ohm) and an extra battery the cars are an 03 525i and 2008 Wrangler so i figured 1/0 wire to connect the new battery and 4 gauge from the battery to amp do i need a fuse between the car battery and audio battery and audio to amp or just on the power wire to the amp, and how big of a fuse (the amp has 4x40amp fuses)…

do subwoofers still sound good in convertibles this is my first build thanks!

I know that subwoofers unload under tuning frequencies in vented boxes and i was wondering what makes this happen. What's the physics behind it? I tried searching for the answer and everywhere it says the same thing, subs unload under the tuning frequency. I already know that, i want to know why it happens. Well it was extremely exciting and a great experience...... my first time ever on the meter. I was in SB4... First run got 141.~ because of a bad song choice Second run had a 145.~ after 16 seconds, then there was about a 3 second pause in the bass... bringing me to a final score of 142.~ My mind was on everything except for my camera.... well i had recently bought a new Truck. I got a 09 F150 single cab. Im currently running a sealed Box my cousin made that fits behind my seat im semi limited in space becuse it's a single cab. The box is 4ft long by 12"deep 12" tall to a slant i belive 6" top and the Box is insulated. It's also sealed in the center between the two subs. TO make two different compartments. My cousin had told me it was better to do it that way and i belive one compartment is semi larger then the other He claims " it will make 2 different tones. So I was looking at a vid of some 18" BLs and this guy said he wants to put a 12" BTL a 15" BTL and a 18" BTL. When I asked him why he said he wanted all ranges of bass. So we started arguing about this and how i think it's completly retarded and he thinks it's gonna get him a "full range of bass" Any input on what this guy is talking about?

I am about to redo all my inside speakers, so I will be needing 2 sets of 6x9s, and 1 set of tweeters. Im looking for the best all around, SQ, midbass, all of that and they will be on an amp. im look to do this all for 500. What do you all recommend i get??

Does a box have a certain amount of air space behind it or does it not matter as long as it fits?

just wondering how everyone feel about wall setups. which do u find more impressive, walls or a non wall setup? would u wall if u could? if u have walled, wha made u do it? if u havent wall, y wont u wall? lol i find myself goin back and forth and just lookin for a lil motivation to go either way. want to see wha others have to say and experince.

I've noticed that all of the high power subs are DVC. I was just wondering why none of them are SVC.

I bought a few of these for a single cab truck build from Digital Photo Club. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this company.... madisound has already shipped my horns out, and yet after 2 days I haven't even received an order confirmation from "digital photo club". If anyone has any input I'd appreciate it. Also, if this doesn't work out.... what would be a good company to order selenium loudspeakers from? Thanks!

The story is, i start my car let it idle and warm up. When i start listening music, then car idle drops ? is my system taking that much power so it drops my car idle ? Or how can i fix that problem?
