ZED Audio

I am a little unclear as to what exact Lanzar amps were built by Zed Audio. I understand they were the OptiDrive ones but there are several different Optis. Anyone have any info and/or pics? Thanks!

Ok I have an old Vulcan VIII in the garage and was thinking that it is only 4ohm stable bridged then read something about running a larger fuse for 2 ohm. What is the real deal on these? Thanks! David

mr mantz or anyone, could a copy of the letter sent out regarding the minilith be posted here? i would like to hear the whole story regarding the 1 ohm issue with these amps.

Really the price per watt of these held me back for a while (that and the Crown 6K that I picked up last year), but I've gotta say, since these came out I've spent more in repairs and blowing up crappy chinese and Korean amps than these ended up costing me. I have still to do more testing, but initial impressions are "run don't walk!" and get you some of these. If you're wanting 1000W range they're worth the extra cost for the crossover and EQ options, and if you want more power, they're worth the reliability. I haven't had a far East built amp >1200W last me more than 6 or 7 months yet.

Did some initial testing with the Crown amp. Unfortunatley I changed the port at the same time I switched to Minotaurs so I have no idea what direct swap gain would have been. Though I dropped tuning 4hz, sacrificed 42 square inches of port and am still up about .4dB. Geometry of the cargo area didn't allow my 5th battery on the Crown and voltage drop was severe. Minotaurs seem to run quite happily on this battery bank and have an audible improvement in sound.... I expect 8 amps vs. 1 has an edge in damping factor. One thing I really like is the ability to non-invert slave all the amps frorm one pre-amp so I can run 1 amp per coil without the trouble of tryin…

Well I finished my brothers car stereo. I installed 2 ESX amps a 175.2 for his front end and a 275.2 for his subs. All I can say is WOW!!!! We have the setup right now running at flat yet we will be tuning it soon. These amps are just wonderful. I have had some ESX amps in my cars before yet never an install like this. Simple yet very effective.! We have 6.5's in the doors with tweeters as well as 4 incher's in the dash. There are 2 JBL's P1220II at 2 ohms in a sealed box in the rear. The car is a 1997 (i think) VW Golf hatchback. The sound that these amps produce is just crystal clear with enough power to make me and my brother happy. I wonder how it will sound when…

Merry Christmas to you all. My baby quit working after many great years of service. Does anyone know if the MAN will still service older amps? If so, is the process slow, fast, or does it just depend (I am sure they are busy around there) (can't go long without my music though)? I had an old A/D/S/ amp repaired a long time ago from a local shop and it didn't last. I would rather it get fixed by the maker. Thanks for any info.

Just bought my first, brand new, amplifier today (all my amplifiers were always second-hand). The ZED Audio Leviathan III. I have one question I need to find out about it. There is a little orange light inside that lights up when I raise the volume up on my deck (Pioneer 80PRS). The letters "VDRV" is written next to the light. I tried looking around online to understand what it is, but can't find any information on it. Is it by chance to signal when the upper rail is turned on in the amplifier to produce more power? Two things, we have been doing a lot of old school amplifier upgrading lately and it seems that so many guys do not want the overseas junk but would rather upgrade their older amps. $49 no fault found, $89 to repair and phone estimate on those badly blown amplifiers. We do the whole deal, BB upgrade where possible and if requested, capacitor upgrades, Mosfet and output transistor upgrades and even change the power transformer for better regulation and bottom end "slam". We currently do about 4-6 repairs a day but would like to increase this as so many guys send their amplifiers to shops who mess them up even further. Well, I'm a fan, so I thought we could kick this off with a little discussion as to what experiences our memebers have with the products. I myself have been a huge fan since the GOOD Hifonics. Wish I never sold them, or the ESX, or the Rodek I had. I am very picky on my equipment and of the many choices out there, I have always come back to two prominent companies, Zed and Zapco. has anyone encounter leviathan and kronos issues? the amp will protect and pop noise from the time you open you headunit it won't go back to normal unless you turn it off and on again. the other thing is when you go full active. theres a noise coming out from the speakers. i tested all my purchase amp and all 10 of them has the same issues. maybe some advice on what to do or what ae the remedy on this problem. many thanks

Just wondering what the difference was between the two? The manual shows the specs as the same, just says something about mixed mono/xover settings as the only real difference.

im looking at this ebay auction with 4 old alphasonik amps. on the zed website it says that zed built amps for alphasonik in the mid 80s but im not sure these are that old. can anyone help me out? this old alphasonik ended the other day, i wasnt sure about it either but it was definately older than the above ones.

I just recieved my copy of the june issue and by god they reviewed the Gladius. Reviewer stated it is in the top 5 amps for sound quality he has ever tested. Congrats Stephen! Heck and this is the first time I have ever visited this forum too, but it looks like it is time to install my Gladius and two Miniliths and start my second SQ vehicle!
