I'm designing a box with the help of the torres box calc and sketchup and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or if this looks right. I believe I included all necessary dimensions, but if I forgot any let me know. The subs will be mounted on double baffle up top, with rear facing port. Any help/suggestions/comments are appreciated!

Now that i'm playing the find-a-car game again, the beetle is back on my list, for price reasons. I currently have nothing planned (well i know i want thump, but beyond that, nothing) With a budget of $3k what is the loudest you could get a beetle, tuned low, to peak around 27-29hz. Back seats are optional. Would like a pair of subs, but a single badass sub wouldn't be the worst. everything besides the fabrication of the box, is done by my hand. This seems like a backwards goal, but my desired show off songs would be, like, Trunk Bang by dorrough and I cook - by OJ da Juiceman. If the low tuning doesn't murk the score, i'd like to be able to compete. Mid 140's would be a …

I have in the past been using Loctite Heavy Duty 2part epoxy for steel to wood and steel to steel... I do not like it... It sometimes adheres good enough to steel to steel but steel to wood.. it sucks.. I have broken the bonds so many times after days of let cure... I need something GREAT!.. I had been pointed to contact cement... Is this a viable option? I have recently looked at a product claiming to be the BEST bonding agent in the world.. practically. It's called Mitrebond. It claims to glue everything to everything. They said it's actually a CA glue that has been widened for many things. Pot time is 15seconds, hehe and comes with activator. IT's $$$ for how mu…

Ok. So I keep hearing different things from different people. Maybe some people over here have some decent advice since im not getting it else where. So I have a DD3512. DD recommends 2.5cu ft ported at 40 hz for their enclosure. Some of the local guys here who run DD say NO. that I need about 4cu ft ported about 36-38hz for one DD 12. Then another guy I was talking to online who tests TS parameters and sub on a daily basis says that the 3512 can play great in a box down to a cu ft. but is good in about 2-2.5cu ft ported at about 34hz. WTF?! All these dimensions contradict eachother and I know DD isnt a super woofer that can play in anything so someone help me out …

So I built a 3 cube box (net) tuned to 31 hz for a new, Fi SSD15 with standard options. port area is 34 in^2 sub up, port back. slot port, 11.5h x 3w x 24d box is 13h x 32w x 20d. 11 sq inches of port per cubic foot of the internal enclosure volume. I'm getting great low end, but the output begins to drop sharply at 55hz, being hardly noticeable at 65hz. I did a tone sweep and the output drops off sharply between 55-65hz, picks back up a little bit in the 70's until it begins to roll off around 90hz where i have my crossover set. My old pair of kicker cvr 12's hit this range wonderfully tuned at 40hz in the same car. I think my box and port are the wrong sizes. ive watche…

Got new vehicle, well new to me and I beleive this to be what I will use for my project. Wife extremely unhappy that I want to do this but that is the way it is. She'll live & I'll be Boomin' !! My goal in this setup is of course "LOUD" next is hairtricks and a daily ground-pounder. My concern is port size (to small or to large) Need input on ideas on what I am putting together. Vehicle: 2002 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 V6 Subs: 4 SA15's Amps: 2 Sundown 2000D's Enclosure will be built as a wall using trim to seal it out to the B pillar. Will be using 3/4" MDF doubled to make all sides 1.5" thick. Calculations are using allowance for .7 woofer displacement and 1 for bracing an…

I just picked up a NIB sw9122 and all that was in the box was 1 page of the owners manual and the mounting hardware. So I need to know what works good for a ported enclosure? How many cubes, freq., and port area? It will be running off a Audio Art 100hc, so in the neighborhood of 1000W. I am thinking somewhere 2-2.25^3 ported to 32hz but not sure on port area, seems this sub will move a lot of air.

Hey guys, I originally made a topic where I landed on the idea of running an 8" midbass paired along with a 3" fullrange. After giving it a bunch of thought, because of the harsh drop off of the full rangers at higher frequencies (if not directly on axis with the listener.) I don't think that this would be the best option for me. I would prefer if both me and my passenger would be able to have the best listening experience. Would this be best achieved by just a simple 6.5" and tweeter combination, or are there different options that might work best? Just looking for some advice, -Mike

Well, i just did some testing with about 30 songs and frequencies from 27-55hz individually with positioning a ported and sealed box around in the hatch to determine what sounds loudest to the ear. I only faced sealed forward, everything else is for ported. This test though is with port and sub on same side. I have a sub up port back box but no sub to fit it, lol Sealed firing forward, right behind rear seat - Basically everything just drops in output. IT all sounds the same, just quieter so that definitely isn't recommended. Fire rear, box against the back seat- the mid range 50-60hz seems to hit hardest by doing this but not by much more than firing directly forward! …

I apologize for asking a question that has been asked plenty of times before, but I couldn't quite find the answer I was looking for. I have an OBS Tahoe with 2 18s, subs up ports back (4 aero ports along the bottom). I need to secure the box to the floor, as it's shaking around pretty badly. My question is, is there an optimal distance to have between the end of the port and the trunk lid? I've read where people just say to put it at different distances and just try it out, but this is no help to me because A. I don't have a termlab and B. the box is moving so rapidly that it pushes itself away in a few seconds anyway. I'd rather not drill holes through the floor until I…

Steve got me interested in the idea of building a console that I could put a decent SQ sub in. My thoughts were to have something like this, Box will be fabric matched and coushioned <SP bolt to surrent center seat/console location, have brackets that fit stock storage box on it. Each end of the box will extend behind each seat for added volume, passenger side extention will be the port. OR Plastic or vinal covered glassing to look similar to the current console on the LS & LT extended cab with basically the same layout. OR But an existing color matched console and modify it to incorporate the box design. Ideas and suggestions definatly welcome. I will make a b…

I managed a 148.2 at 25Hz a year ago in a vehicle that was NOT designed for competition, let alone SPL. I simply wanted a vehicle that could get pretty loud, pretty low, and yet still sound very clear. Out of curiosity I went and got metered to see how loud it was below 30Hz. When I did so I got bombarded with "well this guy with 24 15's in 4th order got a 161 @ 25Hz" and "well this guy got a 154 with just 2 10's at 25Hz". Later some guy, who despite being from this forum was very polite and nice, comented on some of my posts. He was installing 2 18's and tuning around 30Hz IIRC. So I joked and said I'd give him my other alternator if he could beat my 148 @ 25Hz. He tol…

Hey guys. Looking to do my first bandpass 4th order. The reason for this enclosure would be to push all pressure into the cabin of a car through a ski port behind the center rear seat. I understand how vented and sealed enclosures are designed, however bandpass 4ths seem to confuse me a bit. I have searched and found many sources, but I get strange or mixed answers. Please help me clear up some things. I am looking for a transient response with good output. Hoping to get the lows in my passed frequency without sacraficing too much of the 60-80hz range. I have heared that the sealed portion will mainly control the Low Pass and the ported portion will mainly control the Hig…

For my box for 2 12" xcons I want to something that is lighter than mdf. What are some other types of wood people use to build light weight boxes? I was looking at Baltic birch 13 ply that can be ordered from my local hardware store at my dads for around 95 shipped there. At the Home Depot by my house has birch (not baltic) 5 ply. How much better is 13 ply than the 5? I want to call the flint lumber yard and see how much their 13 ply BB is. Is there anything less expensive that people use but is also lighter than mdf?

Hey all, Ever wondered, what weight chop mat should I use? What resin do I need? How much hardener (MEKP) do I need to add to the resin? What is it is hot? What if it is cold? Whats the best way to use fiberglass and add strength to something? Wonder no longer my friends... As i gear up for my door pod build I have been amassing some more fiberglass fabrication products. These products are typical of what you would see in any car audio install that involves fiberglass show I wanted to share them with you, along with an explanation of each and some answers to questions I see repeatedly online! Enjoy! Also, here is a wonderful table that allows you to better un…

I'm trying to figure out the main differences between inverting a sub or flush mounting it like normal. I don't know if there is sonic difference or if the main theory behind it is to just show off the backside of the driver. I've got two DPL's that I'm going to use sealed. I was thinking around 1.5^3ft each.. but if there is a way to go smaller without sacrificing SQ I could go for that too. They'll each be on a separate channel on my ARC Audio 2500CXL (rated at a conservative 270x2 @ 4ohms). My max dimensions to work with in my trunk are 16Tx26Dx35W. Of course, going smaller would be a plus.

well yesterday i took all of my max dimensions and came up with 7.1cf. and thats before port and sub displacement.... so i have a few questions about this.... 1. will this box (after sub and port displacement) be big enough (doing 1 big single chamber) & 2. what would be a good port width to go with? jaycee said tuning them @34hz would be a good start but im not sure on how wide to make the port. any thoughts???? 3. i was told that in a truck, having the subs and port both up gets the best results. is this true? im using 2 10" kicker solo x's
