I lined my box with fiber glass and mat, and it came out very bumpy, tried to smooth it out and did an ok job at removing some. My question is how smooth does it have to be, does it affect the over all sound pressure.

  2. Alrighty, so I've got a few question. I'm building a ported box in my G35 Coupe and I'm using a round port instead of a slotted port. I'm planning on using these ports. I've been using this calculator to do it. Right now I've got a 2.0 cuft box, I plan on using 2 ports, and I'm tuning it to 29hz. After clicking calculate, it gives me the vent length of 9.13 inches. Does this mean I'll cut both of the cylinders to that length? Or where exactly does that measurement start and end? Also, any tips on doing a flared port box? Slotted was easy, but I wasn't sure if this is any more complicated. Also, what panel of the box should I have the ports for the best results? If it matt…

So here is the story. I finally have all of the stuff I need to install my saz2500d. Took box out, 4.75^3. Big for my s-10 3 door. Basically an extended cab with a door. Have the zcon's ready to drop in. Put empty box back in to see where I could put my amp and this is where I run into a problem. Box goes from floor to 2" below back window. From driver side door to 5-6" from other side. With subs installed there is 12" of room on top of box. Amp would hang over about 5" or so. The port is on the passenger bottom. If I mount it on the box overhanging the open port side, would that be a problem? What about mounting it inside the box? The port is 20" wide and 24" long. Plent…

Okay so ive been doing loads of research on parts-express and so forth on finding a sub for a 1974 MGB. I really only want something super small and getting something for better sound quality than just two 6.5's in the doors. Behind the seats is a bit of space but want to keep mostly the stock look. However, there is a compartment where a second battery used to sit that is no longer there and I think I could find a small box in there. I measured the dimensions and can get about .15-.18 cuft gross airspace without making anything look out of the ordinary. I havent found much for the 8 inch woofers or subs that will suffice in that airspace, however there are various o…

I have 40"x 15 x 25 to work with. Would this be sufficient for either 4 sa-8 v2's or a single dc lvl 6 18" assuming it'll fit physically. Its going in a 2005 civic sedan with a 220-250amp alt, 2-4 xs d31's and probably a stetsom 7k or similar. I would like to have itforward fire into the cabin while being sealed from the trunk.

  6. I need a sheet of hard plastic like ABS to use in a bunch of places in my car. Does anybody know where to get anything close to that? I haven't really done any research so if anybody could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Ok, so this weekend I plan on pulling out my box and putting the zcon's in. 2 12" 1 ohm z's goin in. Gettin the diehard platinum marine sat nite and puttin the saz2500 in. Rt now my box is 4.75^3. Its an angled box to fit behind the seats of my 3 door s-10. I have another 4" of room I can go up. That would be about another 1.4 cubic feet or so. Rt now the port is on the side and has about 78 inches of area. 19.5 wide by 4 tall. Is that enough or should I make it bigger while I have it out? Or should I leave it alone? Also what would be a good gauge of wire to run for the subs? I cannot wait to hear these z's rumble!!!!¡¡¡¡¡

I bought a sono tube today for a port for my ssd15 that should be coming in about a week or so. The tube measures about 7.5" diameter. I was planning to make a 4 cuft box tuned to about 28hz or so. But is there any way to curve the tu e to make it a right angle? Lol... idt it will fit inside my box without a curve. And i cant get any fiberglass or resin so what should i do to the cardboard tube to make it hard enough for the port? Could i put poly on it then paint it? Or like any good ideas? And since its not quite 8" tube should i just make a 3.5 or 3 cuft box? And do i need double baffel or should single be strong enough for a ssd15? On 1000rms... please any help will b…

Hey SSA Members I have 2 Mtx 9510-44 that I am looking to design an enclosure for, now I'm not to sure if its possible but I think it is, I would like to be able to do hair tricks, for power I have a Lightning Audio 3000 watt mono amp which is putting out a steady 1900 watts, the car is an 03 cavalier with factory electrical big 3 and two optima red tops. I'd like to fire the subs forward and possibly run the port on the rear deck lid sealing off the trunk from the cabin. my max dimensions are 36x16.5x24 I dont think it needs to be that big but I am new to hair tricks so I need some direction Thanks everyone.

Im using 4 4" aero ports. The box I will be mounting them to is 38"x20"x20" with an 18" sub on one side facing up. The 4 wont fit in a line since their flare is 7"+, so my question is, should I do sub in the middle with the ports on the side of the box facing back 4 in a row, or can I make a square with sub up port up, Will having 2 ports closer to the sub than the other affect anything? or will air movement be equal between the 4?

  11. hey everyone, so, soon I will be getting a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I have the majority of my system ready to install. (please dont judge, i was not as educated when i bought this stuff) Rockford Fosgate P2 12" (2011 model) (it meh...), Rockford R500-1 amp (low efficiency, 58% @ 2 ohms) , Sony CDX-GT565UP (love it), and KnuKonceptz 4 gauge kit. right ow I have a crappy box to test with, its 1.72 cuft tuned to 31Hz via 4" aero. I will be building a 2-2.2 cuft box tuned to 32 once i am sure how i want the port and sub positioned. the current box i have the sub is on one side and the port on the other. so it will be easy to experiment how it will be positioned. my qu…

  13. I got some new midbass speakers and ready to mount them in the door. Problem is, there is very little depth due to the window frame directly behind the speaker mount. I had planned on making some door pods, since my panel is really flat with the pocket removed. Here is what I have to work with. Buddy told me- Hey! You have a large opening in the middle of the door. You can make a baffle, bolt it to the door, and be done! Yeah, that would be pretty easy but I think soundstage would be terrible. Here is a pic relative to postion. Am I wrong? I tried hooking up the driver and moving it around. Kinda hard to tell holding it with one hand and moving it around the door a…

Ok well I have a few questions when it comes to the proper way to decide on the amount of port are that you should use when it comes to designing ported boxes and 4th order enclosures . I have been hearing mixed " opinions " when it comes to picking the amount of port area needed . The most common way I have heard about is staying in between 12 - 16 sq inches of port per cube. Which in my opinion is not a very accurate way to design an enclosure . The other way that have been told is that you adjust your port area according to the xmax or linear max on your woofer. Which sounds to be a more accurate way in to better suit a build. So if anyone knows the actual proper way t…
