Just pondering ideas and wondered why I had never seen anyone use polyurethane on boxes or anything else car audio related? Seems to me like it would be a great finish on the outside, as well as good sealant for the insides of the box. Polyurethane has a very smooth glossy finish which I would think would be great for ports and such.. Which leads me to wonder why it hasn't been used in place of fiberglass in some scenarios. Does anyone have any experience with polyurethane or know why it's never used? One idea I had, was covering an enclosure with playing cards (or anything really) with adhesive spray, then going over the cards with a few layers of poly to give it a swee…

I bought a x12 and have made the reccomended ported box for it. I def sounds amazing when the windows are down in my truck it gets really low. But its not really as loud as i want and most of my music just dosnt go that low.. The other thing is i have a pair of harrison soundlab external subsonic filters... And a pair of right angle adapters from radioshack.. Could these be lowering the signal to the amp and decreasing my out put? Any help would be great. Iv heard you can fill the box a little to raise the tuning frequency.. Idk the sf are at 30hzbtw

I have talked with rob and rusty from dc on everything to do with my upcoming design for summer 2012. I am going to go with 2 xl 12s on two SAZ-3500Ds, backed up with juicebox batteries and a 220amp excessive amperage alt. The box will be a little smaller than recommended seeing as DCs love smaller boxes when they are overpowered. Now my question for everybody that I cant seem to get a hold of is port area, would I be better off giving it a little more (Kerf port btw) space (say 18-20sqin per cuft) or the "normal" range of 15-18sqiin per cuft? My goal is to get decent numbers in the low 30s. I do not have the depth either for aeroports. A 5" aero though would be 21 sqin p…

I was looking around at how I could go about finishing my box. Now this is a 10 cube box, but fully square. Since its MDF I would think it would be hard to paint. So I was searching and came up with four things I may be able to do. Spray/Roll on Bedliner(not sure if it's the same as paint), Carpet Wrap, Fur wrap, or Vinyl Wrap(hardest) Now I have no upholstery expirence so wrapping my be a task, but it looks good when done right that's why it is a option.

I have an old lanzar max12 subwoofer. My friend wants to get a system for his car but really dosnt have much money for one. If i put the max12 in a custom made t-line box that i made and gave it like 200rms would it be decently loud? Or is there something else i should do to get the most out of it? Im being paid to install everything and make his box so i do want it to turn out very nicely if possible. What does it usualy cost to wire for an amp and just put the box and sub in? (iv done all my own stereo on my own so idk how much to charge him...)

I'm looking into aero porting my box for my 15 so I can save room instead of building the box around the port. According to the Torres Box Calc 20x20x20 gives me a gross of 3.66ft3. .2ft3 sub displacement, double baffle, .01ft3 bracing (estimated) and a single 6" aero from psp, puts me at almost exactly 3 cubes at 38hz. The sub is an AA Havoc 15 on a MB Quart discus 1500.1. So now my question is, I know 12-16in2 generic rule, but the calc says my suggested port area is 28-40in2, and the 6in give me 28.26in2. Is that enough port area using an aero? its only 9.14in2 per foot. sub would face back and the port up, or sub up port back either way. I'm trying to stay within 35-3…

So, my daughters MECA Power Wheel got a broken port... So I decided to rebuild... The small sealed enclosure was practically free airing so I was looking at making a loading wall, but I don't know how to tune for just a loading wall which got confusing because it started coming out at a 6th order... So I started looking into 4th order, sealed one half, ported other. plenty of loading surface, as well as the output for the port to under the dash for the kick score. I have it as .35ft^3 sealed side (its a single 8 sealed enclosure is .25-.5ft^3) and ported side .68ft^3 with 2 2" aeros 10" long at 45hz. still fits on the back of the power wheels, and tuning a little higher f…

  11. I currently have 2 SA10's in 2.5 cu ft net tuned to 32hz. They are running at 1 ohm off an SAZ-1500D. I'm pretty happy with them, but the box is the wrong shape to fit where I want it. This is going in an 03 Lincoln town car on the hump behind the seat on top of the gas tank. I have 41" of width, 18" of depth, and 10.5" of height. So I should be able to get 2.5 cu ft net, but just barely. One reason I'm considering the skar subs is that I get a free box. I can get 4-8's in a custom ported box shipped to me for $500. Or 2-10's for $380. I've been thinking about 8's since the sa8 came out. And the box would look nicer for 8's since I could do a flush mount baffle. I don't h…

  12. Whats up SSA. Im currently in the middle of my full system install and just took out the stock speakers today. My car has stock 6.5 Infinity components in the doors (woofer and tweeter mounted seperately) and it looks like it has a decent speaker mount/baffle whatever it is called. On the inside of the mount it specifies that it is composed of Polycarbonate with 10% Glass Fiber. I will be replacing them with a JBL P660C component system and was wondering if I would have good results using the stock speaker mount to install them. The new speakers are considerably more powerful and I will be sending ~120watts to them, I imagine the stock ones were seeing less than 45. …

Starting a box for a friend tomorrow. He has 2 12in kicker cvr's in a prefab box with the ports stuffed with towels because it's way to small to be ported. Lol I will be building a 5 cu box tuned at 32hz. Dimensions are 36w x26d x15h, port is 5in x 13.5in and around 26 in long. It will be 3/4, double baffled and 1in dowel braced. He doesn't have much power JLa1400 (500rms) Should be good for when he can get some real subs and a bigger amp. It's going in a Cadillac deville trunk rear facing. Opinions are welcome., although after spending about a hour making the cut sheet I am pretty set on it, lol. Can post pics during build if anyone wants to see it, should be a huge i…

  15. Starting a new box build this weekend. I'm doing a slot port for this one. The box is 23" long with a 2.25" wide port. Need a 27" long port to tune. According to my math, the L section of the port needs to be 4" long. This assumes 2.25" from end of box to edge of long port length which I come up with 20.75. Taking center of port at 21.875 that leaves me with an L of 5.125 center. Subtracting back in 1.125 of center leaves me with 4". For end correction, I need to add back in 1.125 which brings me back to 5.125" L I've had a long week. Is my math correct? I don't design a lot of slot ports. Thanks! Dave

  16. I'm almost up and running with 2 sa10's on a sundown saz-1500d @1ohm in my Lincoln. I have a box I built for my Cadillac, that is 2.5 cubes with 40 sq in of port area with a slot port. I'm going to run this for now, down in the well of the trunk. Here's a pic. I want to build a new box that sits on the hump behind the seat. I'm not going to run rear fill or the factory sub. So I will have two 6x9 holes on each side and a sub hole that is 6-8" in the middle. First question is what size aeros to run. Will 2-4" or 1-6" be enough port area? Or maybe 3-4"? Second question, how to port through the rear deck? The box will be 10.5" tall and the bottom of the rear deck is about…

Sprint so I have a 06 tundra access cab with a fi x12 in I believe 2 cuft ported box tuned to around 32-34 maybe. But why do I notice such a big increase in "volume" of the sub when I put the windows down or open a door? This is probably a noob question but I'm just curious. Thanks. Btw it's running on a 400rms powerbass amp. It's where the back left seat would be. Standing up with the sub facing drivers seat and port facing the passengers side. Thanks

I'm helping a friend build a box. I've done a few boxes in the past, but this one is different. This one isn't a rectangular box. He wants to, or needs to, use all of his trunk space to squeeze in 2 15" Kicker L7s. The box I designed is 6.11 cubic feet after displacement tuned to 33 hz with ~78 square inches of port. It will be braced and double baffled with 3/4" MDF. My only worry is the port being cut off by the roof of the trunk, but it's got a couple inches to breathe, so it should be fine, right? Criticism is welcome! Thanks!

I'm thinking about doing something that I've only see Steve Meade do, on a much larger scale. I want to build a small setup to just listen to music in the garage with. I have a cheap set of Pyle component speakers that I can use.. I'd like to build a ported enclosure like this. They would be ran off of a really old 100 watt 2 channel Pyramid amplifier. I do not plan on adding a subwoofer to the setup, just this set of components. Since this old amp doesn't have any sort of SSF, HPF, or LPF, it's playing a full range. I will have a crossover for the tweeter, but the woofer will be seeing even subsonic frequencies. I'm thinking about using 1" PVC for a port tuned around 40h…

This is what I have right now Most of these number where pulled from another Tahoe build to give me a base. Ok now I just messed around with the port length until I got the tuning I wanted (33-35). I don't really get how it is longer than the box? This my first box design and is a temp. box for me to use about a month or so. Sub will be powered by a Cresendo 2k at .5 or 2ohm depending on voltage gain All the way down, and I'm going to take it easy. Any input will be greatly appreciated.
