How can one calculate the box rise and how does the shape of the box, etc. affect box rise? I am interested because I want to wire my subs down to .5 ohms, and I hear that it probably wont be an issue because of "box rise."

ok. i think i might have the box ready to go with all the deminsions. i play on putting 2 sundown nightshade 18s in my truck. i was told it need 12^2-16^2 inches of port area. so the box i came up with is 11.5 cubes, with a a port that is 33 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide, this will give me 181.5^2 inches of port area and i need 184 with the box size. its going to be tuned to 30hz. will this work out to be a good box? or do i need to do something different, just let me know

I was wondering if you could have to ports on a enclosure and have each of them tuned differently, for example, one would be tuned to 30hz and the other to 35hz, would this enhance the sound or ruin it? I'm just curious.

  11. Hi all, I'm working on a design for 3 18" BTL's for a jeep grand Cherokee, the hard part about this is that he wants to run the vehicle in the "no wall" class for db drag, meaning that you cant have any part of the audio above the window line. so this creates a space issue. he also is going to be using about 6 Power master D3100 batteries. so that takes up some of the space. the space we have to work with is 66" deep x 43.25" wide x 18" or under tall. now the batteries (which will be connected with buss bars) will be in front of the box. this will take about 14 inches of the depth, so that leaves us with 52 inches. now if you try to port firing backwards that takes…

So I have searched a little and really haven't found out much info. I read somewhere that fiberglassing the inside of your enclosure makes it weak. why is this, is it because of the heat and chemicals released during drying and curing? Is it really necessary for a box that will only see a occasional romp on a lane? Please discuss.

  13. Just wondering what you guys think the best programs for simulatiing frequency response, SPL, and similar things, especially for in car or in room calculations. I have WINisd now, alpha and beta, but they both yield problems on my computer for some reason and I can't seem to figure it out. The programs seem pretty easy to use, maybe I just haven't explored these enough. What do you use, does it cost anything, ease of use, knowledge required, different features....

hi everyone, I'm posting yet another topic to see if I can get any more excellent advice. In a previous post I stated that I was gonna build my own box. I know I want a sealed box. My goal is a real flat response. In my literature for my subs (Phoenix Gold titanium elite) they list 2 different recommendations for sealed boxes they are as follows: {Musical: Vb 1.6, F3 33 Hz} {SPL: Vb 1.0, F3 36Hz} My question to you guys is, Since I have 2 subs, What would be the outcome of making 1 box to musical specs and the other to the SPL spec. The speaker placement will be under the rear deck lid with subs facing the rear of the car. Car being my Chrysler 300. The box will be made…

Well i have this 8in sub laying around i was able to get a old school 160A2 rockford fostgate amp for $20 . I thought it would be best to build a box for it than to buy some cheap one so i could get all the bass i could from this little sub . So what i have in mind is building a ported box for best spl . This is going in the trunk of my mustang. But i cannot find any blue print for a small like 1.00cu or smaller enclosure . So if some one could give me some or just send them my way i would be very thankful.

This setup will be in a 1985 celebrity wagon. I want insane, air moving hard hitting lows. Two different setups.... 1. I was considering a wall running directly behind the front seats with 4 L7 15's and the most port I can run and still have a low tune. I'm guessing about 300 square inches of port. 2.Another idea I was considering was running a huge box with subs up and port up that starts with the box directly behind the front seats and takes up all cargo area, but keep the box just tall enough to have the port firing on the angled back glass. Of course the port will be as big and tuned as low as I can logically make it. On the 2nd idea I was going to run a lot more c…

I have read a lot on the subject, but I can't get a final answer. Like a lot of people in my country (we have small cars), I have limited space in my trunk, but still want to use a ported box. I've read that round ports can make me save space. But I don't understand how. The same rules should apply : 12-16 sq inch of port area per ch ft. What can I expect for a 3.5 cu ft box ? I would like to make a smaller box so that my amps can breathe Thanks

  21. I am currently looking for the best method or material that can be used inside an SPL based enclosure that can help get an extensive increase in pressure. Lots of people do different things but most follow others... Typical things tried is- sanding wood, applying resin, resanding, resin over, etc.... Ceramic tiles. Using heavy material such as marble or granite(not what i'm looking for). I am looking to find out if sanding and resining is what should be done, OR.. if laying material inside of an enclosure will yield better results. sanding and resining can lead to human error with imperfections in the smoothness and this is why i'd like to see if there are materials out …

  22. I want to make some MDF speaker rings that look something like this: But I want the 6.5 and tweeter to fit flush with the mount. Should I just use two pieces of 1/2, and make the inside ring the mounting diameter, and the top piece the outside diameter of the speakers, then glue them together? I may just have to do some experimenting. I'm going to try and mount them in the door in place of the stock 5x7s. I've been thinking of fiberglassing them into the doors, and I probably will in the future, but I just need something temporary right now since the XXX 6.5s will be here tomorrow, along with my BTL. All I'm waiting on to build my sub box is two 3/4"x9"x18" pieces of ple…

i had a thread a while ago that had a download to a box tuning calculator that i made. i've since upgraded it hardcore and would like to repost it. i cant edit my original post in the other thread which is why i'm making a new one. also since i cant edit my original post to update it, i'm linking it to SMD where the original thread is to download from. that way i can update that one which will in turn update the link to the download from here and still allow comments and questions on this forum (i hope that's all ok). if a mod would like, the other thread can be deleted if they find it to prevent any confusion. that one is pretty old tho, so probably buried tho i found it…

Internal dimensions: 15" d 34" w 10" h Port: 10" h 3" w 30" l Sub displacement .1 cuft Subs up, port sideways 2.1cuft after sub and port displacement Leaving .1 for 45s, so 2 cubes net Tuning guesstimate: 33-34 Hz Side note: I would like to figure out how to calculate neccesary port area by the parameters of the sub, not by the 12-16 square inches per cuft rule, might use areos if someone has a suggestion.
