What would be considered too small for a round port (in terms of diameter)? I'm trying to design a ported box (0.7 ft^3 ~ 24hz) w/ round ports for an RL-I 8" and the only diameter port I can use w/ a reasonable length is less than 1.5"...won't this create noise? I just can't imagine using a 1" port for that monster... What's the rule of thumb y'all?

I have a Acura Integra Integra GSR, a ED 9.1 Amp, and a RL-P D4. I'm competing in the IASCA competition at the Nopi Nationals this year in Atlanta. I need help designing a box. People have told me I need a big box with alot of port area, and some people say I need a small box. So I'm confused and have no clue what to go with, I can't seem to find ANY information about any SPL box designs anywhere, out of a number of forums. If someone could help me, even with a roundabout guess of how big and how much port area I need, it would be GREATLY appreciated. I believe the resonant freq of my car is around 58 Hz, which I'm told is a good thing, I know how to tune the box and ever…

i've got a sealed box for my rl-p's. its built into the well of my car and is a major, major pain in the ass to take out of the car, or i would just pull it out and feel for air moving at the joints. when i push one of the speakers in, the other will push out, and very, very slowly settle back. is this normal or does that mean there is a leak somewhere?

  4. So ive currently have got an Fi SSD15 in a 3 cube box, ported tuned around 31 hz. it murders the lows, and theres no port noise that i can tell despite it having only about 11 sq inches per cubic foot of box volume. the problem is, there seems to be cancellation in the 50-65hz range. it hits great below that and even gets louder over 65hz until it starts rolling off around 85hz. this is in the trunk of a 2001 BMW 525i. i have the sub fired up with the port back. im very frustrated with this lack of a crucial sub bass octave. i'm about to build a new box, in the neighborhood of 4 cubes with a port tuned around 35 hz, with at least 14 sq inches per cubic foot of interna…

My dad has an E8v1 in his van in an old box that was from a component set, he needs a new box. I have leftover wood from my box so I thought I might as well use it! Using sundowns recommendations I figured .6 cubes with a 7x2 PVC aero port. My question is how much port area should it have and what frequency to tune to. He listens to rock music, should I even port it?

Well thaks to McVay in Oswego we finally have some "local" shows scheduled for the 2005 competition season for IASCA. The first show is on March 27th, with one show a month all the way up to the month of October. I don't know about the rest of you guys but since I was unable to accrue enough points towards Finals last season, I just can't wait to get back into the lanes this season. 10. Hi everyone, first time poster on this forum. Posting all the way from Australia. Okay, So I'm in the planning stage for a system in the new car, and I've just started doing up some rough design/placement ideas on Inventor, when I ran in to a problem. I'm designing this for a Fi Q12 ported, and I know the recommended enclosure sizes given by Fi of 1.8-2.5 cf @ 28-33Hz. However, that is quite a large margin of variation for a recommended enclosure volume (0.7 cf and 5Hz tuning frequency can affect the sound a fair bit). As I'm not a massive fan of guessing/speculating about the best enclosure volume, I decided to pull out the calculator and the old loudspeaker design c…

  11. I've attached a picture of the panel I need to make a box to fit in. I would love to be able to mold the box outside of the car, but I'm concerned with the trunk panel folding over and not keeping its proper shape. What are my options?

Hi all, I'm designing a custom boot for my car, what is the best way to place 2 x 12" phase aliante subs in a boot? I was told the best place would be one on each side (one on left side and the other one on the other side). and I would love to do a fibreglass job something like this: but on my car would be 2 of them..so one on the left and the other on the the other side. what do you think? or is it better to do something like this (which one is better, sub firing the front of the car or the rear)?:

I was wondering how I can properly set and adjustable a LOC with a stock radio and aftermarket amps. Equipment: Stock H/U SVEN LOC Zed Minilith Sundown 100.4 The RCA's after the H/U are going into the Mini and split (y adaptors) to the sundown. The LOC has four individual knobs for setting the input signal. Sorry if this is not enough.

  15. Hi guys, A good friend of mine want to use his Fi btl n2 15" in a new ported box. He was using mine until I sold the box. This will be a temporary setup, as he is in the process of ordering a second btl, and the box for the 2 is ready (he had 2 Xcons 15" in, before). So, the box he wants to use has those dimensions: 83 cm x 37 cm x 50 cm 32.7" x 14.6" x 19.7" Those are internal dimensions. He has 2 4" flared ports that he wants to use. What length should he make them to achieve a 32 Hz tuning ? Thanks very much for your help. I use to "work" with RAM Design for L port boxes, but I want to try the forum members for these round ports.

  16. Hello , I need a new box design for a friend. It is for a Soundstream XXX sub in 18". Power : a Soundstream XXX 15000 amp !!! It is too much, but it's what my friend have bought !!! He'll have to turn the gain down for daily listening. He wants to compete in spl but needs to be able to listen to music. Can he have a way to change tuning / port easily ? The box will be like a wall, panels will be added to the sides of the box to make it look & act like a real wall ! Here are the max dimensions : 38.58" (Height) x 35.43" (Width) x 31.49" (Depth). If it is too big, we can have it smaller, just tell us. He wants 45's in all corners, and some kind of slot port. No tube …

  17. I'm trying to figure out an enclosure configuration for 3 SA-10s, just not sure which way to go. Was looking at doing a downfire enclosure with an aeroport(s) firing to the side,. Just curious if there is any drawbacks to something like this. I like the idea of it being less visible, as well being a little more protected from the elements if the top is down. If it's a terrible idea, I'm all ears for better options. Thanks

Here is an idea i am throwing around for my 99 neon... 5.25 component set up front for the hi/hi-mids have 6x9 holes in the rear deck, but will enlarge them slightly to encompass 8"(7.25 cutout) midbass drivers 50-200 hz response.. then have 2 12's in aported box in the trunk Is this a sound design to put the midbass on the rear deck?? I have read numerous things about running mono for the rears/keep away from highs back there cuz it moves the center image backwards types of things... Also is this going to be terrible placement for the "free air" midbass speakers on the rear deck having their back wave interfering with the sub output... (really the rear deck is the only p…

first off here is my box: here are the plans i used to build it: 2.26cuft@34hz i have a 12" fi Q BP power off 1200 clean watts and it sounds great in the car but when i pop the trunk while the sub is playing there is this whistling and its really annoying... seems to happen worse on low notes... what is the cause, not enough port area? cuz i am pretty sure there is plenty of port for this sub ive already decided i'm building a new box eventually but this is an annoyance that i would like to avoid with my next build tia!!
