if u have a regular internal port that needs to be say for example 20" long to get a 30hz fq.....would it still need the same 20" length if it was external to get the same 30Hz tuning? I know internal volume would be more considering less displacement

Can I mount the subwoofer in the port, like this? And... Would a 12"Height 1"Wide 6"Deep port be the same as a 6"Height 2"Wide 6"Deep port? Would it sound any different?

when you build a box with a square or round port, isnt it nearly impossible to stay within the 12-16 sq in of port area per cube rule? if so what is the rule for those? and when making a external port it is still the same length as if it would be internal correct, only it is on the outside...

  9. My plan is to use 3 fans as a just in case precaution the way how i am making my new floor in my car to house my amps. I will be contacting a couple companies tomorrow but before that time comes, lets see if anyone knows this- Can pc case fans be used in my car? I ask this because of the following- All these case fans i'm looking at are rated as follows- Rated voltage= 12v Starting voltage= 6v (there is only 2 lines on the fan, +12v and -12v so 6v gots me lost... Anyways, i do not know the voltage tolerance of pc case fans... My voltage runs at 14.9v. PSUs typically are set to a max of 10% + or - on any voltage line before they shut down. This means a pc fan could never …

I am currently in Iraq and cannot measure my doors. I drive a 2004 Ford Focus sedan. Does anyone have a Focus or know the mounting depth? I have some MLI-6.5s but they were incredibly inexpensive as I got them used from a friend and I would have no qualms with not using them. I really would like to know if I can fit the Peerless SLS 8" in my doors. I know 8"s fit diameter wise, or at least they look like it from here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/9621. It would be awesome to have enough low end up front that I could put my RL-i 10 in a sealed box to save some space or even do away with a sub together.

If you're building a downfire enclosure, how do you calculate the distance from the floor? I've searched and haven't found a definitive answer. All i've found is calculations for woofer sag and "just do 3"-4" from the floor." Half the radius, or plus 5% of Xmax... What? Help please! Thank you.

i've been making and tweaking a box calculator the last few months. it's come along nicely i'd say. it's been over on *** (i'm ExpoSport over there...and if it's possible to change this name to ExpoSport me love you long time so after getting it tweaked to a good point i figured i'd share it elsewhere now. one thing that is still in the works is an open/save feature so you can save designs instead of printing or writing them down everytime. this is mainly for square/slot ports. plain boxes will be easier to do, but if you build a box in the car for example, you'd need to figure out the volume on your own and then fill the boxes in accordingly to get that volume, and then…

Does anyone know anything about designing a bandpass box. I have a pair of 12 w6s in a ported box w 2 6 inch areo ports tuned to 44 hz and a jl 1000/1. I can do 143.4 db at a 48-50 hz tone. Im trying to get in the uper 140s without reaching the 2500-4000 watt amplifier range. Any help on design principals or general advise on how to get louder would be greatly appreciated.

OK I'm finally going to begin my build next week sometime. The box will be a center console going from the dash to the back seat with 4 12" RL-p's facing up. My question is should I have the port firing forward towards the dash? Or firing back under the rear seat? This setup is going in an '05 Chevy crew cab. Thx for any help.

  22. Hi, I've read everywhere I could, but I get very different informations!!! My enclosure is about 4 ft3 and has a round 5.6"(diameter) PVC port; port length is 14". It sounds good, but I 've read that port area should be much bigger : 4 (ft3) * 15 = 60 sq inches. And my port is far from that. I don't really know the actual tuning, but I would like it to be around 30-32 hz. Do I have enough port area ? Or enough length? Enough port ? Please, help me !!!

Ive made my own ported boxes in the past but nothing more than a rectangular ported box with f-glass. I dont want to pay a shop to make my box, I want to build it myself. Its a 2000 grand am. Back seat obviouslly removed. I dont really understand how to do the edges and different angles. to take up ALL the space. Or do I forget angles and just do what I can. I was going to do it all in fiberglass but that is probably a stupid idea and a stupid amount of work. The only other problem is how to calculate volume with so many different angles and how to exactly calculate how to measure the bracing and port volume. If anyone has a site to direct me to that deals with Wall setu…

well its that time of year again, when i have some money comin in. Hopefully this will be finished up in the next few months. its goin in my 84 cutlass. 2 Mach 5 MJ-18, off of a AQ 1200. the box is 10.97 cubes @ 34 hz, and 175 sq. inches of port. the bracing in the pics isnt what its actually gonna be like, i got in a hurry and just threw it in, ill be glassin the inside and usin thread rod. the corners will also have 45's. oh and its out of 1'' mdf. Comments or suggestions appreciated. demensions are 42 wide, 29 tall and 24 deep.
