SPL & SQ / Fabrication

Calculations, Concepts, Designs, Theories. All General SPL Or SQ Questions Can Be Discussed Here.

  1. Soo pretty much, I've been wanting to do a more compact sub setup for quite some time, and since its spring time, I needed a nice little project to keep me busy! The design I came up with is pretty simple in concept... basically its going to be a fiberglass ported tube enclosure simular to a bazooka tube. I figured these enclosures can offer me a more compact enclosure than a big box, yet still be ported. Its going to be constucted using a 10" in diameter by 48"cardboard tube used for concrete molding (simular to a sono tube). I'd cut it to the length I need to give me my airspace, create an MDF baffel for the sub to mount on to, use a smaller tube to form the port. …

ok, as some of u know, my first wall i tore out to make room to lay frame. well once the bags are done, wall is getting rebuilt. right now, its gonna be the 4 15" mts, hella close to the front seats, with the port on the top, and the 4 15's under that. i sat in that guy john's van with the 16 12" ssd's, and it was loud. you guys think i should build my wall like a diamond type thing, something like galactic monkey is doing, or just a straight up wall like im doing? itll be tuned around 35 hz. this was my old wall: never heard it either my floor after airbags will be sorta like this:

I was wondering if you could send me the exact dimensions, that would be the best for the 12" BTL that I just bought from you tuned to 32HZ? The biggest size box that fits in the trunk of my Chrysler 300 is 32"wide by 35"long by 15"tall, that is the biggest size box that we can fit in there. If you could help me out that would be great.

I've seen a few installes at some shows where they put a board/plexie over the subs/ports. Whats the purpose of this, and is there an advantage doing this?

There used to be a few threads about things people were doing for SQ competition and some of the things each organization makes you have for max points in each category. I have a few questions about some of those things. I will be building based off of Usaci rules mainly because besides SBN (which offers Iasca as well) they have the most SQ comps in logical distances from me. My first question is about Processors, crossovers and EQ's. Do I need any of those three for max points or if I buy a HU that has all of those things built in will that count? If need be I will buy a cheaper HU and add something like the PPI-DCX730 as opposed to something like the Pioneer 880 or the…

if any of you guys can give me an idea of what type of box works best for an early 90's cavalier station wagon id appreciate it, im a trunk guy and dont really know what works best in that type of vehicle, aside from a wall what do you guys suggest? the box will house 2 DD9512's dual 1.5 ohm subs and be powered by a single earthquake d10.

I tried my hand at making an enclosure with miter joints instead of butt end joints like normal. This is going to make finishing the box 100% easier and take half as much filler (just having to fill the screws). I had always been turned off by the thought of miter joints because every one says they are so "complicated" and the thought that iff i mess up that pice is gone for good. Well now i realize that if you think about what is going on and tripple check its easier than designing a box with butt end joints, best part is if you fudge up a lil it isnt gonna be a big thing to corrct it. Case and point: My first set of 45's where slightly steeper than 45...i realized this…

I need to find out what the correct airspace is with this box. The depth is 20" with the sub facing up. The 36" is the bottom of the box. It's shaped like a "T" to fit over the wheel wells. I know it's kinda crazy, but I need to maximize the room I have for an 18" sub I have coming in shortly. Thx for your help, Vic.

I got my RL-p 15 metered in a ported box running it with about 800 watts and I hit 146.3, which is above my goal but not enoguh for me competition wise. So I was thinking about getting 4 or 5 Assasin 8's for competition. Only problem is that I have a ED 9.1 amp, and it only goes to 1 ohm, the speaekrs would be wired parallel and that would give them .8 ohms. I'm guessing it would be ok to run this on that amp because the wires and everything would bring it to a grand total of over 1 ohm right? Also, would five 8's be overkill? Should I just stick with 4 instead? Thanks alot.

  18. I did a recent install in the wifes jetta an alpine oversized face deck 7998 or something I think I'd have to look.. a PG Xenon x600.1 amp, pushing a single DD 9510F in a 3 cube box 45in^3 port 34hz tune. not too musical imo, but bangs hard on the low bass stuff. I think if I had more power it may help, and a higher tune also would more than likely help, as it's tuned lower than the drivers FS... anyway, in my sig is a link to the vid, and here are a couple pix does a 141.9@34hz car closed on the dash new TL, and a 141.4@32hz. 140s on music peak hold on dash, and I did a rolling average with some chopped and screwed and watched it do 139-140 for a little over 30 seconds.…

I just got a 12" Mag from Low-Hz, and currently have it in my old sealed box that housed a JL 12w6(v1). That box has about 0.8 cubic ft. after driver displacement. Anyway, I was planning on building a ported box and got this off the net: http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported...=&Vas=&Fs=&CE=0 I was all set on building it, but decided to read more, and the more I read, the more I get confused and hesitant. So I decided to ask the official SI site for input. I want the best ported box with a maximum width of 30" and max height of 13". It's going into a 95 Ford Mustang, and I would like the box to fit perfectly into the hole when you fold down the seats. …

I'm new to this forum, so let me know if this has already been covered. I have a Carvin HD900 amp and a RLP15d2 driver and want to build an MDF enclosure. I would like to position the driver so it is downward firing and would also like to have port(s), perhaps on the rear. I would like to have a width of 20" and height isn't a concern. I think I want to tune to around 14hz (want something really low) and need to know about amounts of polyfill inside the enclosure as well as internal bracing requirements, etc. Basically the whole picture:) I'm gonna run 900w in 4ohm bridged mono mode for power (think that makes sense...lol). Please help!! Thanks!!
