Alright, so i'm building a box for my 15" Q My problem is the max hieght i can get out of my trunk is 16". My question is that my front plate after being cut out for the sub only leaves 3/16" on each side. Being that the front plate is 14.5" tall. Will it be enough to support the sub itself or will this rob its structural integrity? I would like to advoid slanting or angling the front plate to fit it in.

  2. For 2 Fi BL 18s in a box that is 2cuft over the manufacturers recommended enclosure size the final net volume after displacement is 18.29. I have the tuning freq set at 33hz. What would you guys tune this box to? Or should i keep it the same? Thanks!

I have a question about ports. I am having finely decided to use round ports. But I have a problem; I have 8.89ft3 I want to tune around 38 Hz. The problem I run into is I need like 15’’ of port. The box is only 14’’ deep, going with 2 8’’ ports. So, can I bend the port with a 45? So it will make it in to the car with out a problem. If yes, do I have to add any thing to the length, or do I just cut the tube where it needs to be and add the 45 in between the cut peaces. Trunk setup subs up, port up going thought the rear deck.

i still dont understand how they work and what the diff is... you got these kind with a bunch of little wires and a crapload of windings and youve got these: with a little bit of windings and thicker wire. is one better than the other? i dont understand.

anyone ever used this box calculator before? box calculator im having trouble figuring out the port as on my cut sheet it says on a 30x17x9.5 box= 2.05 cubes. tuned to 32.34 hz that my top/bottom port is a 2"x 1.65" cut? i just dont understand this, as this number seems way too small to be an actual port. it is a 3 common wall port as well. any help would be greatly appreciated!

UPDATED!!! finally got everything worked out that i wanted, plus a neat addition or two. ***When downloading, make sure it is saved with a .exe file extension, or it will not open properly. the 'Open with...' window will pop up otherwise*** (thanks gottahavbass917 and a user from another forum) To do this, go to the folder that the calculator is in and click tools in the toolbar at the top (click alt on the keyboard if you can't see the toolbar). Then click folder options. then click the view tab, and in the advanced settings window, there's a check box that says 'hide extensions for known file types'. Uncheck that and you will see the .uexe file extension on the calculat…

  7. OK, so I am hoping that some box building gurus can help me stop pulling may hair out trying to decide on what box design and subwoofer choice I should go with. As you know, the Toyota MR2 is a very small car with not much room behind its only 2 seats. It is mid engine, so the trunk in the back is of no use to me for subs. they must go right behind the seats in a wedge style box. Here is an MR2 and a pic of the space behind the seats: So I listen to all kinds of music literally, well maybe not country so much, but lots of stuff. I want it to sound musically nice but definitely want to produce as much SPL or should I say """SQL""" as possible if s…

  8. Hey everyone, I have a dilemna. I want to throw a nice pair of 12s (or 15s if I could) in the back of my trailblazer, but I want to save space. I have 2 young boys and I need to haul a lot of stuff sometimes (golf clubs, snowboards, etc). I have a Sundown 2000 that should be delivered in 2 days, so I want to work around it. Quentin from Audibel is going to be building the box for me, thus I'm pretty much looking at SSA or IA subs. I'd love a pair of 15" Xcons, but you do what you gotta do. I figure I have a few options. Either a box up against the back seat(rear-firing?), or a false floor(firing up). I'm open to suggestions. For the box against the back seat I was leani…

Whats up guys...Heres a box I finished up yesterday. It is a transmission line tuned around 31Hz. Right now there is an EHQS 12 (SVC 4 ohm) in there. Amp is a JBL CS200.1. Rated at ~200 watts at 4 ohms. As for how it sounds...FUKIN AWESOME. The tonality is a lot different from the 2.5 cu ft @ 30Hz box it the EHQS was in and output is a lot higher. This thing digs deep and has usable response down to 25Hz testing with sine waves...below that it unloads and doesn't have much output. It has a pretty flat response from 28 - 60Hz. I really love how it sounds. It's easy to tell when the EHQS is reaching its mechanical limits as I can hear it bottoming out but that is…

I just finished a build on a trans line box, Its a 1/4 wave 33 hz. But i thought i had read some where that 1/2 wave trans lines were better, but impractical for space. so i thought i would make a box with a 1/4 wave at 33 for daily and 1/2 wave at 66 for comps, but from testin the box in my house the box getts really quiet after about 40-45(guesstimation) when using a reasonce test song, so was my idea of a dual purpose box dumb.. and are the only good trans line boxes 1/4 wave boxes?

Hi, I would like to here opinions on Subwoofer designs, Setups, And enclosures for a Convertible to produce traveling low hertz bass with the top up and down. I have built many design in my 98 Mustang Convertible for Soundoff Contest and have hit as high as 154.3 DB's in a Usaci competition. This my car i have brough to the competitions Now i am looking to build a system using the back seat or trunk or both to produce that sound quailty traveling bass, not that loud rattling bass tat you can't enjoy in the car. has anyone done this in a convertible If so what speakers, enclosure and postions was used. I have thought of using a 3 high end 10" subs in the back seat in seal …

so my RL-i 10 has arrived, now i'm waiting on the amp. my 1st question is this. would putting the driver on the back side of the truck box be a bad thing? i know to allow for excursion clearance, but it would still be pretty close to the back wall of the cab (regular cab ranger btw). would there be some adverse effects from the air the sub is pushing not escaping away from the sub fast enough? here is a crude 1 minute drawing. i was thinking if it would be alright to face backwards; i would extend the sides of the box to act as a separator between the box and cab. i've seen boxes like this before, but they were facing the front to give separation from the seat. this n…

Hey guys just looking for a little input here I have been doing some measuring and test fitting cardboard templates to see what I can fit behind my seats without having to loss a lot of leg room. I came up with this set up. Dimensions 13”H x 20”W x 5”depth1 x 8.5”depth2, with 3/4 MDF it gives me .646 ft3. The Sundown SA-10 specs say it will do fine in a sealed enclose at .5 ft3 so after displacement I should be right on track with .546 ft3. My only real concern here is the mounting depth at 6” I should be in the clear right?

I have seen a few posts on here recently about trunk cars and the difficulties that some have experienced with their sub bass system. I think this may help. There are a few primary problems that are encountered when we install subwoofer enclosures into a sedan type vehicle with a trunk. The most obvious problem is the reduced amount of bass in the main listening cabin. The next possible problem is that there is more bass with the trunk open than when closed. A third problem is the excessive rattling of the trunk body panels. Proper damping will greatly reduce the vibrating body panels and yield slightly higher SPL in the vehicle, but will not resolve the other issues inh…

Hi guys, i have a trunk car (2004 Camry) and right now my setup is sub/port back. I have experimented with placing the box closer to the front of the trunk (closer to the back seat) or further back (near the rear bumper), so far my car rattles less and sounds louder when closer to the bumper.. Question I had was, would I gain anything if I flipped my box so that the port/sub was firing into the cabin? if I am listening to the sub at high volume I usually fold the rear seats down to allow more air to move... Wanted to know if anyone with my car or a similar setup has tried this and what results they had before I manhandle a 100lb box and re-wire my amps etc.. thanks!

  25. Hi, I am curious as to what the best way it is to have the system not be choked up in a trunk. currently my box leaves about 4-5 inches of room between it and the side of the opening that goes into the cabin from the trunk. so thats the only gap there is between the trunk and the cabin, unless you count the rear deck, but that doesnt let much air through. so im designing a new enclosure to fix this problem, now my question is, is it better to have space for air to flow above the box or on the side of the box? this will be for a sinlge 12" BTL, and if i do it with the airspace above the box i will have about 3 inches tall by around 28-30 inches wide of a gap between the …
