First off, I'd like to express my most sincere thanks to denim and mrray13 for their support and assistance in getting this forum setup! The SSAudio community has shown itself to be friendly and informative, and I believe, the perfect home for SoundSplinter's online forum. That being said, allow me to tell you a little bit about myself. Name's Mike and I've always been a huge fan of music, both as a happy listener as well as a performer for my own personal enjoyment. I grew up on many years of formal keyboard/piano instruction but have since moved towards teaching myself the guitar as I have fallen in love with its portability and versatility. Having such a close co…

a buddy of mine just ordered 2 rl-s 12's a few days ago after i showed them to him.... he asked me what he should have the builder tune the box to....i really have no clue where these subs perform best at. he was thinking 6 cubes at 32 because the recommended airspace per sub was 3cu/ft on the website....however the tuning was significantly lower at 24.... what would you guys recommend him having the box tuned to? he just wants to sound as clean and clear on most rap music as well as music with lots of lows...not really looking for being loud as hell... so what do you guys think? any info appreciated thanks

Weds, Nov. 2nd I received the RLS-12" for the demo ring. I'll start with the summary, because there is alot of typing and I know alot of people don't want to read it all. In the end, and IN MY OPINION: The RLS is an awfully impressive driver. The output of this thing is downright impressive. As more then one "well known" engineer has said, You don't need 40 Newton Meters of force to make a driver strong. It also seems that the early estimates (based on driver spec's) are correct - this is not much of an In-Car driver. I was expecting this as well, but was hoping to be surprised. The LMT motor design itself seemed to come together awfully well. The driver stood up to ful…

I bought an RLS-15 (sorry not an RLP-15) a few years ago with a Behringer EP-2500 with the best intentions, to build an IB manifold in my livingroom ceiling. It turns out I am not a good carpenter and chickened out on cutting a manifold opening in my ceiling, so my IB dreams never came true. I just can't seem to make anything pretty out of plywood and MDF. I've listed the amp and speaker on ebay and hope that the RLP-15 will find a deserving home with someone who really understands this driver's capabilities. I ended up just putting a Axiom 12" subwoofer cube in the livingroom. I was sad to hear that Soundsplinter is closing and wish the owners best of luck in their next …

I was in the middle of insulting the spam bot, and a mod deleted the thread. It was going to be epic in a stereotypical white boy way.

Good mornin' to the good peeps of SSA! It has been a long time coming, with glimmers of hope springing to light only to be dashed by the heavy reality of a struggling economy and a primary producer that declared bankruptcy only a few short months after my largest purchase order to date. I had sincerely hoped that there would have been a revival in the production process, however I can now say with confidence that I will not be receiving my order for the RL-i8's and RL-p18's that I had placed so many moons ago. On the upside, a partial debt resolution is in the works, so I should be able to recoup a portion of the losses stemming from my final purchase order. However, gi…

Anyone with any experience with the sub? How do they sound, and how much power were you feeding it?

Hey everyone! As Kent mentioned last weekend, I have a handful of orphan drivers available that are not listed on the website. First up, I scored a lot of around 70 TC2+ based 8" drivers. These manufacture at the same cost as our coveted RL-i8, however they were manufactured for a third-party retailer who returned them because the magnet structure was 0.5" too tall for their given application. As a result, I managed to sweep these up on a discount some time ago, and am offering them here for general sale since I know many people have been wanting a beefy 8" driver, and our RL-i8's are navigating some serious production hurdles on account of our manufacturer recently …

Hey there guys! Last you guys heard from me I was trying to get some help with my burnt voice coil rli-8. Since then I bought 2 of these rl-i8s from Patented17 in the classifieds section. I spoke to Mike (owner of SS) and and I've commissioned SPY (all credit with the box goes to him!) to custom build an enclosure for my subs. He did his best to get the specs in the confined area that is my vehicles trunk, to match the optimal specs for the rli-8 according to the website The box itself is .3cuft tuned to 33 hz and I know will play down low very well. Here is where you guys come in. I have a clarion DZX785USB (link) that has preout voltage of 6v, and I have a pair of Cla…

Hello all, I bought a soundsplinter RL-p 15" probably 4 years ago? Anyway it was meant to go into a home audio project that never quite materialized and it sat on my work bench instead. During this time it seen cold temps as I live in canada and maybe have seen some things hit it I guess I dunno anyway the surround now has one small crack in it and another spot where there is a crack that is not all the way through the rubber yet. I am going to temp repair it with a silicone type glue from the back side of the surround but am interested in finding a new surround for this subwoofer. If any one can point me in the direction of one that would be much appreciated. I am slight…

Anyone with experience with the rl-p 15 have a suggestion on what enclosure would be ideal? I plan to run the sub in series at 4 ohm (or as close as it wires to) at a clean 1k rms. I was thinking of going with the 3.5 cubes the site recommends tuned at 30 Hz.

I got a new amp, and I think it's about to put a hurtin on my Rl-P12 D4.....It's a Clarion DPX11551 so at 2-ohm, it will be putting 1550RMS to the sub. It will be sealed in 1.25^ft. If the gain is all the way down, will I be OK? Previously ran with 500wrms, and it was a monster. Also, whats the highest I should cross the sub? Im running Dayton RS180-4 7" in the doors. Can I cross the sub at 100hz or am I asking for trouble? Thanks.

Allright so I just managed to get my hands on 3 more rli-8's so that brings me to a total of 5 now. Wanting to do a build with them but not sure what size boxes these subs like. I can't remember the size of the last box I had the 2 in but they sounded awesome. Ported tuned low and they will be powered by a sundown 3000d Thanks

I bought a 12" Soundsplinter RLP 5 years ago and just recently sold the car that I had it in. I was looking to go back to the drawing board so to speak, and possibly upgrade to an RLP 15 and noticed that it seemed everything was out of stock, and now the website is down. I have looked around at other drivers, but I am having a hard time finding a woofer that is as good as the one I have, that doesn't require 1,000 watts or more to jam, doesn't take a ton of space up, and is reasonably priced. Does Mike from Soundsplinter still cruise this board? I remember he helped me out tremendously when I purchased the woofer.

Well i have one rl-p 18 that is still pretty stiff even after a year of use. And today i just found another one at a pawn shop and picked it up for a really really low price. the coils are fine, both read 2.0, theres no rips or tears in the spider/surround. Now that i have 2 i really want to run them both in a sealed enclosure, but im worried they might play somewhat out of phase due to the one from the pawn shop having a looser suspension. Could this happen or am i just worrying too much? thanks!
