US AMPS

  1. Started by jack,

I see two different md2s' One says "Merlin MD.2" and has all of the connections at the bottom of the amp on the long side The other says "MD-2D" and has all of the connections on the right end of the amp (this is the one on the usamps.com site durrently) The power ratings are identical, but there is no way that with all of the radical differences they are te same, one has to be better My questions are these; What are the differences (is one like a 5 year old model and the other current?) And of course, which one has more power! (do they exceed rated power or just meet it? at 2 ohms specifically), Does anyone have specifics or no? And what else about them should one know?…

Funny, as I am waiting for my USA-600x to arive, I had to put an Old Rockford Fosgate Puch 100 DSM in my car. Well early this week I bought a US Amps USA-50 as an amp to run my tweeters in a all active system. I just realized its rated 50 watts X 2 just as the RF 100 is alaso rated 50 X 2. I am going to get some connectors tomorrow to properly attach the wire to the US Amp and swap the two. With the same power rating and similar size, I look forward to seeing which one takes the cake lol On a side note, Can anyone explain why my USA-300x I just got has 2 Power connections and 2 Ground connections? Do I need to wire accordingly? If so that means even more distribut…

  8. Many people say that the old school us amps were better probably because they were made in the US.At least in the 21st Century how good or bad in terms of circuitry are the amps compared to old.( I know US Amps AX Line are made here)

I have this US Amps 200, looks to be made in the 90s, no crossover. Works great, but gets kind of warm running bridged at 2ohm. I recently got a Ascendant avalanche and those subs come in dual 2ohms so i was thinking about running the amp at 1ohm bridged. I've heard from some people that its possible with a little modification, i'm no electric engineer, but i've modded a decent amount of ps1/ps2 and built some headphone amps so i'm tempted to try this. Besides swamping the capacitors w/ higher voltage capacitors, what eles could i replace on this amp? Is there anything i can add? Could i just leave it as is and just cool it better? thanks in advance for any help

I have a USA-200 pushing a 12" RLP on a single channel at 2 ohms at the moment. From my understanding the 200 is bridgeable at 2 ohms. This is one of the first usamps I have owned, and I am unsure of which terminals to use for bridgeing. Anyone know if it is the right + and the left - or vice versa, or if I am completely wrong and the amp is not bridgeable @ 2 ohms?

Now I am not going to point fingers at us amps quality because it is probably me doing something wrong. Anywho, I have a us amps xt1600.4 runnning focal polykevlar 5.25" components. I have the focals in stock door locations with the tweeters mounted on the pillars. The xt1600.4 has a .5 farad cap on it. I have not yet fine tuned the gains because i have not had the chance but they are roughly set. I expected this combo to blow me away, but it is not any better than the old boston component set I had running off the HU. My question is: Could the gains need to be changed, I mean, can that cause distortion? also, I have some sub par rca's from scosche. Could that be it? Last…

Hey, US Amps owns RE now right? Question on an RE purchase: I found one of the SX models on eBay for $209 while woofersect.com costs $420 on sale http://cgi.ebay.com/RESONANT-ENGINEERING-S...1QQcmdZViewItem Is this just because there's no warranty and it's a shady dealer? or is this an older model possibly? Thanks for any info

Hi all, I am still waiting for my US Amps to arive, and in the mean time I am ordering new wire and other things I will need for my new install. I have 0 Awg comming from the Battery back to the trunk. I will be running a USA-300x, USA-400x, USA-600x and a USA-50. Should I run 4 or 8 awg wire to those amps Power and ground? Also should I run one large fuse, or get a distribution block with seperate fuses to control each individual amp? Just wondering what wire and hardware I should use to insure a strong safe system.

What makes a AX2000HC worth $1000 more than a AX2000? I know that volts x amps = watts. I have been told that a AX2000 produces 600 watts at 4 ohms and that a AX2000HC provides 150 watts at 4 ohms. I don't understand. Does the High Current amplifier have a extremely low voltage? Does the AX200HC have a much better power supply contained in the same size package? What IS the difference? I know from experience that US Amps builds a heavy duty amplifier, but specs don't help me understand what I am getting for my money.

Hey guys ive had an AX4300 for about a year now and one of my channels doesn't work properly. It seems that the rear right channel will give a very scratchy sound like the speaker is blown. i went back and checked the RCAs and they were plugged in fine. if i jiggled the rca or pushed it in harder it would clear up for a while but then the sound comes back. What is going on and how can i fix it!!?! Thank you

this is probably dumb but this is my first us amp and i noticed that on my md1d there are 2 channels even thought it is sold as a mono amp. my question is most amps i have owned had the bridged output marked on the amp. this one doesn't. can i just use a positive off one channel and negative off the other? does it matter which? thanks in advance for helping the newbie.

okay this will be the official USAmps picture thread.... you got some pictures? post em here is some news: * New and improved AX Line * Unveiling of a 6 ft. long amplifier (note: upon further questioning, this "amp" at the show is just a giant heat sink, showing the possibility of the Multiple link technology. this is NOT an actual amplifier, just a chassis) Larry, you were right. * Brand new Xterminator Line to replace the IS * USamps drivers and comp sets (TB released in the future) thats all i could think of so far. im going to get some in depth info tomorrow. pix from Djjdap courtesy of 95stroked1500: the new Xterminator line to replace the I/S WOOT! I am just wondering how the new XT series and VLX series amps are compared to some of the amps from the past. I am looking at these amps and they are a steal for the power they claim to put out and the efficiency they claim. If someone could tell me how they are now I would greatly appreciate it and also if someone could explain to me what some of the differences are between the VLX and XT series amps are because spec. wise they look very similar but their is a $100 price difference.
