  1. I did some early prototyping around this time last year on some mid-level sets and they were quite good, IMO... I decided to re-evaluate them a bit based on the listening I've had with them since that time. I received the first early prototype of the new mid-level set a few days ago and I will be replacing the 2011 prototypes in my car with these soon. The biggest change is the cone material... for a set like this that crosses over higher I prefer a paper base vs. the composite base (woven material) that the other set utilized. The set is NOT done as I plan to modify the frame on the mid as well as the motor ventilation. There will be no fancy eye-candy to the set -- very…

I started my stereo install without full plans. I had no idea what my substage would consist of. I had a JL amp already for my door speakers and thought id be going that route so i ran the JL bass knob wire through with the rest of my wiring. I then ended up learning of sundown and got the sax-1200 amp and the bass knob that comes with it. Do you know if i can just swap the wires or do i have to re run it? I really don't feel like pulling my carpet back out just to get that wire re-run if its not necessary. Also the JL wire didnt plug into the knob itself, there was a 6 inch line off the knob that it connected to. So i need to extend it, do i need a special wire and conne…

As the title states. I will be on an actual vacation for the first time in ~6 years or so. The rest of the crew will still be here at the shop holding down the fort. You can still reach Brandon and Debbie as you normally would. Some things may be delayed a bit that require my attention but most things will get done no problem.

I built a sealed box for my E8V2 using the recommend cubic feet from the website of .25 and the sub just sounds restricted. Now I am gonna build a vented enclosure for the sub but lost on the port size. Every calculator that I use shows a 12" (w) x 2" (h) port being around 85" (L) tuned at 35hz with a volume of .6Vb. That just does not sound right to me, so where am i going wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

The molds completed a few days ago and the first samples rolled out -- here are a few of the first look photos from our basket manufacturing company! I am super excited about the potential these will bring to out larger woofers. Once our new spiders, cones, surrounds, and spacers are all tooled we can really show off what these are capable of -- those parts should have completed samples as well soon too. These things carry some serious heft... the base plate that bolts to the motor is 9mm thick un-painted compared to 5mm on most 4 and 12-spokes and 8mm on the Ti-18 frames (add about 0.5mm for paint). They are the strongest frames that I am aware of ever to be produced. --…

What I want to do is get 2 of the Dual 2-ohm and run them @ 2 Ohms on the 3500D... I guess I would be putting about 900-1000watts RMS on them... can they handle that? 8. The frame renderings themselves are not ready to be shared yet but the cone body and surrounds are ready. Each surround has the following calculated geometric capacity : 10 -- 50mm one-way (frame allows 45) 12 -- 55mm one-way (frame allows 50) 15 -- 60mm one-way (frame allows 55) Therefore; each one has a 5mm cushion beyond what the frame can handle in it so the surround CANNOT reach the maximum geometric limit -- as this can cause stress and eventually tear the surround. We've taken note that no open tool / readily available surround can handle what some of our newer designs can dish out already... and future designs will be even more extreme on throw so these surrounds …

  9. I know it is said a 100 times a day... "with impedance rise you are going to be over 1 ohm anyway" when talking about a half ohm load or lower on a daily system. Sure... if you constantly played individual sine waves one at a time. But, is that what music is? --- http://www.audiograph.se/subpages/technical/whatmakesagoodamplifier.htm "The upper graph illustrates the conventional way of measuring the loudspeaker impedance. The lower graph illustrates the dynamical approach. We took a commercial ’off-the shelf’ loudspeaker and did a standard impedance plot for it. We swept the frequency from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, measured the input voltage and current, and calculated the impeda…

All, I am looking into running 2) SA-12s in my 2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI. I do not want to loose my entire trunk with a large ported enclosure and also, I prefer the sound of sealed enclosures. I am not a SQ freak but I like the tight bass, with some boom if I crank it up. I am limited to 1000-1200W RMS. They will be getting 600W each @ 2 Ohms. My question is this - the Sundown website recommends 1.0 ft^3. I listen to mostly rap, R&B, electronic, with some metal mixed in there. 1) Should I be going slightly larger than recommended to retain my lows (e.g. 1.25 ft^3)? 2) I can't find much info on the SA-12s in sealed enclosures. Anybody running these sealed? How…

Hi, I'm new but a long time lurker of this board. I've finally decided to purchase a sa-12 and add a subwoofer to my car. (Bmw E46 Sedan) Before I purchase, I would like to get the box sorted out. I've been using some different calculators and various threads from this board to figure out how I should build the box. I have the whole trunk to use so no space constraints. The sa-12 says 1.75-2 cubic feet which leaves very little to no room for a port. I want to tune to 35 hz. I looked into maybe one 6" aero port, but it would be a stretch to get a 2 cubic foot box to fit the sub and the port which would be 14-16" long. Any help or suggestions? Would a passive radiator be m…

Specs where provided from an old friend whos been doing SPL and bandpasses for a long time, just wanted to see some other sundown people input, maybe sean will poke his head in here. The specs I was given was 5.7cuft 1:1 50sqin of port area 8" long. After the suggested BP design I "tried" to mock one up in sketch up. I probably got this all wrong but here is a picture of it with some area's left out to view the measurements. I shortened the port based on 1 shared wall, the way I got the length of the port of 5.25" is that I calculated the box like a standard ported box with torres calc at 50sqin 8" long, got the resulted tuning, then changed it to 1 shared wall, accountin…

  19. The Sundown 100.4 amp has been sitting in my garage for a few years now. I bought this when they were first released as I think the knobs have changed over time? I can't remember how to setup this amp on my current car. I have components up front and a sub in the trunk. How do I wire this to the amp correctly? Specifically which RCA and Speaker wires go into which terminals? Also how do I go about starting out to tune the system with this setup? A buddy of mine asked me if I could find him a set of good 15's. I suggested Sundown's SA-15 and I know that they are a good driver for a good price. However, I'm wondering how much power you can run through them, if you feed them clean power. They would be running of a Hifonics HFI1500d which would either push 1000@ 2 ohms or 1500@ 1 ohms depending on if we had dual 2 or dual 4. I suggested that he also buy a better amp but wasnt sure what one. Any suggestions? How much power? *budget for amp is undefined, I'm not sure if he wants to buy a new amp right now.

would there be any way to make a completelly wireless amp? something like a Bluetooth setup so people can get away from tearing their vehicles apart to wire their doors and what not. it's easy to power up an amp, but a pain in the ass to wire up the doors and the rest of it. i would love to see an amp that only needs the power and ground and instead of a remote wire or RCA's the amp turns on via Bluetooth signal sent from the headunit and sends signal to the speakers via Bluetooth. could you imagine how great that technology would be? i think it's an awesome idea. i think the amp would have to be on each speaker though and someting like a Bluetooth router would have to be…
