Sundown Audio

Greetings, gents. I have an interesting goal where failure is not an option. Sparing details, a 'friend' of mine has a pair of DC level 3 10's being driven off a 3500 watt mono block, clamped around 2200. It hit 144 @ 29 hz and this is a rear-firing ported box in a trailblazer. This dude is a tool. Will not shut up about his setup and thinks he's unbeatable. Well again, sparing more details, I want to one-up his ass with 4 SA8's. Not only louder, but I want it to go lower. Here's what I'm working with: 1996 Nissan Altima. The back seat is out and I hope to have the 4 SA8's sealed against the opening for maybe a 4th order? Or ported with just the subs blowin…

So guys i am new to sundown audio. A friend told me about the SA-8 so i thought i would give them a try. I just ordered 2 dual 4 ohm for a 1 ohm load on my hifonics brutus 1200.1. But any ways long story short i had a cool box design i wanted to try but not to sure on how to calc. the box volume and needed port length for a 35hz tune. So i put together a little paint shop quick drawing to get some input. Plz no bad comments about the drawing i know its crap but its just an idea of what i am looking for.

Sundown SA-12 Review - DIY Mobile Audio "I have had this sub for a few days now and am finally getting a chance to really give it a good listening to, mainly on my commute to and from work and this evening i finally had some time to just sit in the car and play some random tracks. The car is a 2008 Scion xB, the sub is in the rear cargo area in a 2cu ft ported enclosure tuned to 29hz (I will be updating my build thread with that info as well) Sub is on the drivers side facing the hatch port is on the passenger side facing the wall which was recommended to me and works VERY well. Build quality is outstanding, great fit and finish on all parts. Nice thick paper cone, stiff …

  8. I am pleased to present one of our national records, established in Italy by the team sundown audio Italy - Team Dore. This machine has made the record in a category with many limitations, only 1 subwoofer, 1 amp, 1 battery, in a small hood! A "bullet A" style but with a limit of 60hz!!!!!!! This machine has 1 Nightshade 12" v.2 D1 SPL coil 1 Zapco 7500 (expect our NS-1 to improve) 2 Battery limited space, limited at 60hz ... a great and hard work for 1 year National Record at 154,3db in standard position (on glass) term-lab. a small picture on the box that shows the work and here is the video of the race I hope that jacob is happy with our work

  12. Just got off the phone with my local machine shop... looks like they can make the copper tube I need @ 75mm long x 74mm ID x 76mm OD Also looks like I can get a 77mm diameter coil former from Precision... and that I have a nifty motor here already in stock with a 40mm tall top plate. Can anyone guess what I'm doing ? Hint : When I'm done with the first one it's going in my daily driver.

Congrats to Jon Kennedy for winning IASCA Southeast Regionals SQ in the PRO class with a pair of SA-8s -- he is a part of Team First Amendment. He also won a Bass Boxing challenge presented by Team Epsilon/PPI against Chad Romano -- a friendly challenge, of course! They plan to continue the friendly challenge at SBN this year  Jon runs PPI amplifiers and an old school Boston 3-way set. I am going to get some more details from him on the actual bass boxing scores and the install but for now I'll share the photos I have -- the box is a 4th order that fits under his truck seats.

Hey Jacob, I was wondering how much excursion is safe with these 10's. On some heavier midbass songs they get goin with maybe a half inch of excursion. Theres no hint of distortion o just want to make sure they were designed to handle this.. Thanks

Just whipped up a quick ported box for a 03 Ford Lightning truck for a local here, box came out good and cannot wait to hear it in his truck. Box is pretty simple 1cuft tuned to 35hz with a single aero port. Will be installing this and building his small amp rack this coming weekend, and I have nothing but great expectations on performance from this sub. This is the second local here that I have recommended the SD series too who purchased them. The first I believe picked up a pair of the SD12s.

Well you will be able to get one again soon. We made a special run of SAZ-1000Ds just for WoofersEtc.com that is due in about two weeks. Many people are looking for mates to their 1000Ds and this will be another, and the final chance to get one! This will likely be a one-time deal for a final run on these amps. I'll get more information up on pricing and whatnot once they actually arrive here at our facility.

From all of you who have run an SA-12. How will they run off of 500rms? I heard while they are rated at 600rms they need a little more than that to get moving well. But my car has a small alternator and I think 500rms is about what I can pull off safety. I just worry it wont be enough.

First up is a picture of the meters. On the left is DC amperage draw for both amps, then AC amperage, then AC voltage. Do the math and that ends up being 2816 watts. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS! This amount of power pushed the sub HARD, to the point where the cone hit the basket. But I'm doing maximum SPL tests so I don't care …
