Sundown SA-12 Review - DIY Mobile Audio "I have had this sub for a few days now and am finally getting a chance to really give it a good listening to, mainly on my commute to and from work and this evening i finally had some time to just sit in the car and play some random tracks. The car is a 2008 Scion xB, the sub is in the rear cargo area in a 2cu ft ported enclosure tuned to 29hz (I will be updating my build thread with that info as well) Sub is on the drivers side facing the hatch port is on the passenger side facing the wall which was recommended to me and works VERY well. Build quality is outstanding, great fit and finish on all parts. Nice thick paper cone, stiff …

I would consider myself a "lurker" when it comes to forums. I compete in the local SPL scene here on Oahu and am a member of Team Sundown. Anyway, I've reached a landmark in my brief SPL career the other day and decided to share it with fellow Sundown Audio enthusiasts. In testing I was able to break the 150db mark on the Term-Lab, now to do it in competititon. Here's some info, pics, and vids of my current setup. Hope you guys like it! 1995 Chevrolet Blazer 4dr KnuKonceptz wiring throughout 200 EA alt MLA module Optima Yellow Top Deka Intimidator 9a31(x2) Kenwood x589 + 6 disc changer Sundown Audio SAX-100.4 MB Quart Premium PVF 216 6.5" components Sundown Audio SAZ…

Based on the amount of support required for people who have failed to do their research and install amps properly I may be pulling 0.5 ohm warranty coverage from future "Z" series Class-D amplifier sales. Plenty of information is posted on the forum but I continually get support questions about sub-1 ohm operation. It turns out that 90% of the time it is a gain knob set too high, insufficient voltage, or a load that is incredibly low beyond 0.5 ohms due to wiring errors. Have there been any failures? Not any more than I would expect from just factory defects and user error. I've had one come back that was actually toasted beyond recognition... but that user had an issue i…

My car is currently in the shop awaiting repairs from the recent break in. Since I have the time and I have not posted on this forum before, (I think) I was just wondering how you guys feel about these little guys. Should only need 6 cubic feet net ported, and have almost the cone surface are of (4) 15s Just considering something different for a good sounding daily that will drop low and get fairly loud. Power would be from a 3000d of course. Almost forgot car is a 2004 Ford Crown Vic seen here, old setup, just to give you an idea of how big the trunk was, that box was 4 cubic feet net tuned to 28hz I would have to do subs and port up, but I did that with my single RL…

I posted these on a couple other forums and figured I might as well share them here. 2 Sundown NightShade 15s powered by a pair of Sundown SAZ-1500Ds. First hit. These are legal scores. (sealed up, mic on the windshield) After finding the right frequency. Door open, mic still on the windshield. Hardcore score. (door open, mic in the kick) This is in no way an spl setup. It plays music great and is already ripping my Explorer apart. The sunroof, that was previous glued & sealed shut, has ripped open and the mechanism that lifts & lowers it is completely trashed. The side windows are falling out. I'll be resealing the sunroof and side windows very soon…

Promised I would show some pictures... we got some of our SA shipment yesterday (8s, 10s, 12s, E8s) and it showed up in a nice container with no pallets. So we had alot of fun unloading * First thing we saw - exciting, right ? * Does it end ?! * My view from inside... I was in the container the whole time tossing boxes to the other guys * Expanding dramatically when it came out of the container *laughs* Had to stand back this far to get them all in the picture. We shipped all the E8 v.2 pre-orders today and SA-15 pre-orders will start going out on Monday. DO NOT e-mail me asking when your specific SA-15 order will go out -- the answer is as soon as we possibly can sh…

I just want to make sure I have this right. right now I have (2) 4-ohm 10's in my doors ( one 10" in each door). one 10 on channel three and one on channel 4. (channels one and two are occupied by my tweeters and horns and I'm good there). now, I want to replace them with two sundown neo-pro 10's which are 8ohm. am I correct in thinking that I can wire them together down to 4ohm and then bridge them on channels 3 and 4 to get the most power out of my 100.4? how much rms will that amp produce to those channels in that configuration? Thanks guys

I started talking about doing this line back in November on Facebook then on CACO. I decided to take it all the way to the prototype phase -- this is what I came up with so far. We are talking $60-70 MAP on these from a dealer ----- Here are some initial photos of the FIRST rough prototypes. I am essentially testing for ruggedness and for the soft parts and coil being what I want first. The motor will likely increase in OD a bit if I can't get Qts down with other methods but I started small to ensure we aren't wasting any costs on making it too large off the bat. Had to get a feel for what % I would be off compared to FEA to go from there. If we go to production the f…

All specs measured after a short break-in period. Specs will vary slightly from unit to unit and with further break-in, as with any subwoofer, but these specs are accurate enough to model up your enclosures. 12" Model D1 Coils: Qts = 0.40 Qms = 6.83 Qes = 0.43 Fs = 43 Hz VAS = 11.7 L Le = 1.4 mH (series) Re = 1.59 ohms (series) BL = 17.6 N/A 12" Model D2 Coils: Qts = 0.44 Qms = 9.36 Qes = 0.46 Fs = 41 Hz VAS = 11.7 L Le = 3.0 mH (series) Re = 2.92 ohms (series) BL = 22.8 N/A 15" Model D1 Coils: Qts = 0.48 Qms = 9.33 Qes = 0.51 Fs = 40 Hz Vas = 36.7 L Le = 1.36 (series) Re = 1.44 ohms (series) BL = 15.27 N/A 15" Model D2 Coils: Qts = 0.44 Qms = 8.64 Qes = 0.47 Fs = 38 …

We should have it in a week or so to test ourselves; factory testing has went very well and it is meeting all of our design goals. Length without feet = 18.89" With the feet total length is roughly on par with the original version (20.15") -- then the case is of course narrower. So overall foot-print is down. Will get some side to side pics when the prototype gets here.

Sundown will be CLOSED June 20 - 24th 2008. My brother is getting married and I'll be in Florida. I'll have my lap-top so I'll get to as many e-mails and forum posts as I can... but nothing will ship during that time.

Saturday I installed 3-Sd1 10" subs and 1 -SAZ 1500 amp in a 1998 Honda Civic 4dr. The subs were in a 3.40 cu.ft ported 3/4" mdf box that was braced accordingly. The ripple was -1.0 / fs was 25hz/fb was tunned to 34 HZ. Enough of the tech mumbo jumbo. I knew the system would sound accurate due to the ripple and natural QTS of the sub ,but I did not think it would be that L.O.U.D!!!!!!! These little ten inch 250 watt subs sounded impressive to say the least. The low freq extensions were accurate and flawless. They are taking the power well. The set up also did not fall flat on it's face in the upper subsonic freq ranges. They were a little sloppy at 60 hz plus but that co…

My (2) SAZ-3500 get hot, really hot. Is this common in this amplifier? My Voltage stays around 13.5 on full tilt, and sometimes it'll go to 12.7 on long continues bass notes when on full tilt, when not on full tilt it's 14's. I got a 320amp Alternator from DC and (4) XS Power D3100s as secondary batts. Thanks Jacob
