Sundown Audio

I would consider myself a "lurker" when it comes to forums. I compete in the local SPL scene here on Oahu and am a member of Team Sundown. Anyway, I've reached a landmark in my brief SPL career the other day and decided to share it with fellow Sundown Audio enthusiasts. In testing I was able to break the 150db mark on the Term-Lab, now to do it in competititon. Here's some info, pics, and vids of my current setup. My car is currently in the shop awaiting repairs from the recent break in. Since I have the time and I have not posted on this forum before, (I think) I was just wondering how you guys feel about these little guys. Should only need 6 cubic feet net ported, and have almost the cone surface are of (4) 15s Just considering something different for a good sounding daily that will drop low and get fairly loud. Power would be from a 3000d of course. Almost forgot car is a 2004 Ford Crown Vic seen here, old setup, just to give you an idea of how big the trunk was, that box was 4 cubic feet net tuned to 28hz I would have to do subs and port up, but I did that with my single RL…

Low tuned SA-8 on music : We didn't have anyone with long hair around... so we used paper.

We should have it in a week or so to test ourselves; factory testing has went very well and it is meeting all of our design goals. Length without feet = 18.89" With the feet total length is roughly on par with the original version (20.15") -- then the case is of course narrower. So overall foot-print is down. Will get some side to side pics when the prototype gets here.

I started talking about doing this line back in November on Facebook then on CACO. I decided to take it all the way to the prototype phase -- this is what I came up with so far. We are talking $60-70 MAP on these from a dealer ----- Here are some initial photos of the FIRST rough prototypes. I just want to make sure I have this right. right now I have (2) 4-ohm 10's in my doors ( one 10" in each door). one 10 on channel three and one on channel 4. (channels one and two are occupied by my tweeters and horns and I'm good there). now, I want to replace them with two sundown neo-pro 10's which are 8ohm. am I correct in thinking that I can wire them together down to 4ohm and then bridge them on channels 3 and 4 to get the most power out of my 100.4? how much rms will that amp produce to those channels in that configuration? My (2) SAZ-3500 get hot, really hot. Is this common in this amplifier? My Voltage stays around 13.5 on full tilt, and sometimes it'll go to 12.7 on long continues bass notes when on full tilt, when not on full tilt it's 14's. I got a 320amp Alternator from DC and (4) XS Power D3100s as secondary batts. Thanks Jacob

I'm about to order a PSI Platform 1 and I want to run it with my Sundown 1000D. On the PSI website it gives you the option to bump it up to 1000 Rms and to change the ohm to 1 and to run 8 gauge wire straight from the speaker and so on. Before I order I want to know how I am going to get the best results. Order the dual 1 ohm? Go 1000 RMS or stay at 750? Go with the 8 gauge as the speaker wire etc. I have 4 gauge power and ground for my alpine also. Do I need to change that? Do I need a extra battery or alternator? Any help would be great. I want to order this sub asap and it's killing me.

Ok I am wandering will a 1500d at 1.5 ohms will put out? I have a 100 amp denso alternator hair pin design i have heard there amps is higher then what they rate them. I have a group 35 battery i think it is 450 cca and i wil be using a 1500d on 2 jbl gti's 12's running 1.5 ohm load. My question is will my electrical hold up or will i need a new battery? I plan on getting a kinetik in the future when i get the money it is a brand new 2009 corolla so all i am really worried about is battery power which i can always turn down the sub bass but will i have to or will the electrical system hold up? Saturday I installed 3-Sd1 10" subs and 1 -SAZ 1500 amp in a 1998 Honda Civic 4dr. The subs were in a 3.40 cu.ft ported 3/4" mdf box that was braced accordingly. The ripple was -1.0 / fs was 25hz/fb was tunned to 34 HZ. Enough of the tech mumbo jumbo. I knew the system would sound accurate due to the ripple and natural QTS of the sub ,but I did not think it would be that L.O.U.D!!!!!!! I heard a rumor from a local Team Sundown Member that there is a Sundown 125.4 on the way..... How true is that?

Hi Guys, As some of you might know im planning to get a saz 3000 D when my ship come in. I am also planning to get a eclipse 7200 due to some pretty fancy features. Problem is that it said to put out 8v on paper while the saz is said to except 6 V on paper. Sure I believe the specs of the Saz more but and sure the eclipse dont put the 8 v all the time if ever, but will these two pair up nicely and if not what will happen. thx again.

The amp blew some fuses. I replaced them and the amp works fine on the 10 minute drive home. I was at a football game doing a promotion with a radio station. The car and amp was on for about three hours. On the way leaving the game, it played fine for about 30 seconds, and my sub (Fi.Q 15 D2) suddenly stopped working. Checked the amp and it was just completely off. Would the prolonged playing time have something to do with it?I just want to know why this happen and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Fs was 31 Hz after very little break-in so I expect it to settle around 28 Hz or so, dead on with what our goal was. Still did quite well in the Jeep despite being optimized for another application!

Setting up this sa 12 in my brothers car its in a 2.25 ported box tuned to 34hz. It's in a eclipse . if we get the crossover past 60hz the sub sounds horrible. Should the sa be able to play naturally past that say up to 80 or 90hz?

I posted these on a couple other forums and figured I might as well share them here. 2 Sundown NightShade 15s powered by a pair of Sundown SAZ-1500Ds. First hit. These are legal scores. (sealed up, mic on the windshield) After finding the right frequency. Door open, mic still on the windshield. Hardcore score. (door open, mic in the kick) This is in no way an spl setup. It plays music great and is already ripping my Explorer apart. The sunroof, that was previous glued & sealed shut, has ripped open and the mechanism that lifts & lowers it is completely trashed. The side windows are falling out. I'll be resealing the sunroof and side windows very soon…

The frame renderings themselves are not ready to be shared yet but the cone body and surrounds are ready. Each surround has the following calculated geometric capacity : 10 -- 50mm one-way (frame allows 45) 12 -- 55mm one-way (frame allows 50) 15 -- 60mm one-way (frame allows 55) Therefore; each one has a 5mm cushion beyond what the frame can handle in it so the surround CANNOT reach the maximum geometric limit -- as this can cause stress and eventually tear the surround. We've taken note that no open tool / readily available surround can handle what some of our newer designs can dish out already... and future designs will be even more extreme on throw so these surrounds …

I recently installed this amp with a pair of HAT Clarus 5.25 and I was wondering if the LPF on channels 3 and 4 are not functioning properly. I'm currently running active and I was attempting to bandpass my mids using the Subsonic and LPF. When I select LPF the mids produce that range I selected, however there is a buzzing sound coming from the mids and they sound slightly distorted. When I select HPF they play just fine. The Subsonic is set to 70HZ and the LPF is set to around 5500HZ. Thank you
