I will upload the video soon... will take a while as it's 9+ minutes long but the results really speak for themselves. We compared against a very well respected 2.5" coil driver rated for 600-watts RMS -- many people do run much more than that to this particular driver. The comparison was done simply to give a reference point. I was wondering if it was just me or if I wasn't even tickling this driver thermally with 800+ watts on tap in my car (SAX-200.4 two channels bridged at 2 ohms)... so the question is now answered -- I really wasn't even close to the thermal limits as this 60 Hz test is brutal with very little excursion. On music where the sub is moving 4-5x more the…

Well gents, I have accepted the task of getting the 'Rides' section of Sundown Audio website back up and keep it relativly updated. Glad to be 'partially on-board' the team here... . Anyways, in order to make a successful 'Rides' section, I need some rides to feature. Basically I am looking for anyone to up some pics and descriptions for us to throw up on SundownAudio.com. Also if you have ideas or suggestions for the rides section, I would very much like to hear your input. Oh, and my name is Brad (SilverBane here on forums) and you can contact me at [email protected] I hope to get some mail soon!!!

Stock 15" D2 Nightshade - Short Coil, Stock Cooling, 3 spiders Power = 2x SAZ-3000Ds strapped @ 1 ohm (internal strapping) I matched my best score with the "Monster" design. This confirms my theory that the Monster design *NEEDED* a ton of power to get loud - which confirms my decision to move with the NS-X first and continue work on the Monster design to increase efficiency AND power handling. I tried turning up the head unit more but did not gain any more SPL - just got the sub hotter!

Seems it was a pretty hot topic so more information on it now. The market I am targeting is retail dealers -- the products this amp will compete with are primarily items from Memphis, Alpine, JL, Rockford, etc. SAE-500D prototype size not counting power terminals and RCA connectors is only 9.5" wide x 1 7/8" tall x 9" long -- this will vary a bit when we tool our actual case but will be quite similar. Cost will be $200.00 from an authorized dealer. Comparison to products in direct competition from authorized online sources : Memphis (1 ohm / 60-amp fusing) : $339.99 7.83 x 1.85 x 11.45 Memphis 16-PR1X500 JL (Class A/B / 2 ohms / 60-amp fusing): $299.99 14" x 2-1/8" x 7-11…

The finalized frame tool with production finish is done so I'm starting a thread to hold photos of all the parts as they finish up... we should have the rest of the tooled parts done the week of the 24th and the motor likely before that. So as I get images of the final parts I'll put them up!

"This is our upcoming 1250 RMS line being tested free air with nearly 3x their rated power level -- I took it up a bit too far just as an example =) This was taken with a bit newer camera than previously used -- Canon Powershot Elph 16.1MP. The excursion looks a little weird in this video compared to other videos so not sure which camera I'll keep using in the future -- but hope you all enjoy !" From the video caption.

So I got bored today and decided to test the Nightshades limits.. it was taking every note solid @ 1500watts without even breaking a sweat... So I droped it down to .5, lowered the gains a lil bit... testing it at typical music levels seemed to do pretty good.. a lil stress but nothing serious... put on Burning Up Chopped in Screwed... pretty much flexed the piss out of the car for 15 seconds and it started smelling bad... turned it down real quick. Put it back to 2ohms... played fine for a little and then gave out. Sooo Jacob any type of specialized recone I can get =D? I ripped her apart to find this...

I ordered a 3500D and now looking into purchasing a second battery. I currently have an older group 34 optima yellow top under the hood, 1/0 gauge wire ran to the trunk and the big 3 done. I'll be buying a 200 amp alt soon as well. I'm having a hard time deciding on which battery is the best between the Kinetik HC3800 or the PowerMaster D3100. I'm unable to find the complete stats on both. Some stats I have found, the Kinetik has 135AH and the PowerMaster has 117AH. The Kinetik is rated for a 3800 watt system and the PowerMaster 4000/5000+ watts. I havent been able to find CCA or CA for either although I did find the PowerMaster is rated for 3,200A Max Amps. The Kinetik …

Yes... "Blownest" may not be a word... but I think it needs to be after seeing this woofer. I do not know who this belonged to exactly but Nick @ SI is re-coning it at my shop today so we thoroughly documented the carnage. Just had to share. * Thats not so bad, right ? * Well... that isn't normal. * Back of the surround should be gray. * Melted material and discoloration on the pole. * Wow. * Kapton wrap of the former is melted and puddled up on top of the triple joint. * That used to be a plastic former cap from under the dust cap. * The solder actually re-melted... * Some of the solder formerly from the connection point * That should be black. * Insider of…

My brother got an SA-8 and may not be able to port the box based upon where he wants to put the sub in his truck. If he decides to go with sealed, what volume should the enclosure be built to ensure the maximum quality output? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Well its tax-return time and I'm officially debt free, and its also the the start of audio season. The question is should I buy and build a new street A car. This season the car would get a modest treatment, 2 runs of 1/0 wiring, a good battery, 2 saz-3000d's, 2 (10" subs undecided but would have to be pretty beastly). The following season it would get the fun treatment, 4-6 runs of 1/0, countless hours of termlab testing/box building etc... Should I do it, represent Sundown Audio and SSA again? I'm leaning towards yes, Its a great hobby and if I could nab a cheap crx/omni etc... I should be pretty solid in the north east.

So Sean is up with his CRX and we are doing some testing... we hit a brick wall last time at 149.0 dB using a 4" aero-port. So... Sean and I got the idea to try a 6" aero-port for the single 8" woofer! The result is 149.9 dB so far. Peak is 66 Hz in the kick... the CRX normally peaks at 68 Hz so we are going to work on re-tuning to break the 150 outlaw. Fun stuff We have as much port area as cone are now *laughs*

This is the second one I've made. They are a pain in the butt to do... so I never offered them openly. Everything is so tight even the tied down leads smack the cone -- so I will likely go in and glue on some felt pads behind the cone. In any event... here she is : * Yes, the dust cap JUST fits inside the surround... actually have to pry it out with a screw driver even without glue. * Terminals come out to the side so I can solder the leads after assembly. * Big motor on small frame !

lol okay now that i got your attention i will make my lil review haha. so...my first reaction when i saw this amp internally was "this must be a POS it looks like a damn power acoustik or some thing like that internally" but that amp reaaaally proved me wrong. i used that amp @ .35 (strictly for spl) and it is one tough mofo i did a bit over 15 burps on drained batteries...my voltage drop was from 14.1 to 13.0 with one optima g31 and 1 crappy batt up front on my blazer. i got a 146.2dbs with 1 DD 9515. the amp never got hot during the burps, it didnt blow the fuses, go to protect or even burn...i used it at a comp yesterday and i did a 146.1 and got 1st place with it. so …
