I occasionally build custom drivers on non-Sundown platforms by request -- few pictures to share These use the Z v.2 light weight 15" cone, Z v.2 production voice coils, Z v.2 production "2 spider" pack, an additional re-enforcement ring at the triple joint, stock T3 TSS frame and motor. With this cone the factory trim ring can also be used unlike the last TSS I built with the wide roll surround. * Top triple joint * Factory trim ring in place * Triple joint ring between cone and spiders. This cone is a bit shallower so there is room between the cone and spider. * The second one being built... this is my spider press rig to make sure the spiders stick well to one ano…

A customer ordered four 15s and I am just about done with the first so I took a few pictures along the build process : * Rear triple joint glue and ring - the ring is smaller than the gap and centered so can go down into the gap at extremely high rearward throw. * Close-up of the glue. * Spider pack is pressed with a laser cut steel plate and a Z v.2 motor to ensure good bonding of the glue between the frame and spider layers. * Terminals have a locking toothed washer * Soldered - and a dab of glue added to the stud on top of the nut and washer for long term safety. * Special surround glue - dries flexible and won't hurt the surround material. * Finished cone to s…

I have a few quick question about the sub box that I am going to be building. First I have two SA-10 D4's wired down to 1Ohm, being powered by a SAZ-1500V3, currently have a crappy prefab enclosure. Though the subs still sound great I know they can be much louder. I have used a few online calculators as well as design software to build a basic ported box. I just want to verify that the box design I have will be sufficient. I've been playing with some numbers and I'm curious about port recommendations as far as width and length Current Box design is a simple ported box with a side slot vent, subs are sharing air space. I'm using RE audio Box calculator specs are Wid…

Well its tax-return time and I'm officially debt free, and its also the the start of audio season. The question is should I buy and build a new street A car. This season the car would get a modest treatment, 2 runs of 1/0 wiring, a good battery, 2 saz-3000d's, 2 (10" subs undecided but would have to be pretty beastly). The following season it would get the fun treatment, 4-6 runs of 1/0, countless hours of termlab testing/box building etc... Should I do it, represent Sundown Audio and SSA again? I'm leaning towards yes, Its a great hobby and if I could nab a cheap crx/omni etc... I should be pretty solid in the north east.

I came in yesterday and built this bad boy... a customer had ONE unit on order for a bit and I got a pair of the Aluminum sleeves as samples so I am building this one and one other one this week (both with fat 8-layer coils and are single sub orders). These also don't call for any Gap ID sleeves as they use the fat coil -- so I have enough parts to make them  ----- * Collecting the parts up. * You can see the black coated aluminum pole sleeve in place on the pole but not Gap ID sleeve -- so the overall gap is still pretty massive. The "fat" coil fills it up nicely, though. * Starting the rear glue joint * Rear glue joint completed * Prototype "XL…

so my sa 8 stopped working last week when i pulled it out i thought it had burnt both positve and negitive leads. after i got back from a lil easter trip i was looking closer and it's only the negtive side and its up by the coil. then i found that the nut on the push terminal was backed almost all the way off. Is this something that would be under warranty or should i spend the shipping money on a recone. The sub is less than 3 wks old on a punch 6oo gain at 65% and i was still tring to break it in.

I am stuck between the Cadence TXA 6004 and the Sundown 100.4. Both sound like great amps with great warranties. What really are the differences other then prices?

Congrats go to Luz Carter, Team Sundown Audio/Image Dynamics in the MECA SOUND QUALITY Stock class format. She went undefeated this year and pulled off State finals by a close 1/2 point. Sundown isn't just for the knuckle draggers anymore. lol

I am getting 2 - 12" Flatlynes for a daily driver (Sealed... will also be upgrading from a Sundown SAZ-1000D to the Sundown 3500D... What I want to do is get 2 of the Dual 2-ohm and run them @ 2 Ohms on the 3500D... I guess I would be putting about 900-1000watts RMS on them... can they handle that? Enclosure Each sub will be in a sealed enclosure with with 1.12 cubes of space after discplacement...

I was looking into the SA-15 and looking at this spec sheet confused me. The specs for a sealed box are only implied for a D2 version of the subwoofer and the ported for a D4. Is this specific recommendations or can either subwoofer work for either enclosure type and size? Don't want to seem stoopid but I've never seen it explained that way before, so I had to ask.... Thanks....

i will be redoing my install in a few months and wanted to know if maybe i can color match the amps with the color of the car... not really gonna be going to shows just a personal preference, i think the amps would look sick painted... new set up will be 2 15 ns, 2 1500s, and a 100.4, the box is getting built by pete which we havent worked on the details yet but he stated that we might go the horn route... i have a good bit of room to work with, enclosure space to work with is 16 high, 42 wide, and 30 deep... also i have a ohio gen 180/225 alt and getting a d3100 to replace my 2 dekas ( which i plan on selling).

hey quick question can you run the 3000ds daily on a 16-18 volt system. i think jacob 4 3500ds on six 16 volts right, do u think that many batteries would be necessary with just the two 3000ds. also I can turn my voltage up to charge such a system.I see that the 4 channel that sundown makes only runs up to 16 volts will it hurt it at like 16.5 17.5. I figured it would just be cheaper to sell my yellow tops and switch to 16-18 volts and get more power from what I have. but I would also need a four channel that can run on such a system. (if there is one) what does anyone suggest.

Ok, so I did an install for a friend in his 2009 Honda civic with a Sundown NS V.2 prototype and a sundown SAE-1200D and we have encountered sort of a serious problem. It seems as if there is some sort of a current draw coming from the amp when it is turned off because if he leaves his car off for more than 24 hours the battery is so drained that it can not start the car... The amp is definitely the problem because whenever I take the fuses out of the amp the car works perfect and there is no current draw. The amp also is completely off whenever the car is off (I checked) and is connected to the ACC fuse for the remote turn on since the car has a stock stereo system. I am…

I have had lots of thoughts about hosting a competition in my neck of the woods. I have a shop that I know would be willing to team up with me to do it. I would want to eventually get the event to grow into something on a larger scale with SQ judging as well, but would start off with bassrace and db drags. Any comments or suggestions for hosting a show (especially if you have done so yourself) are great appreciated. Would also be great to see how many guys from Team Sundown could make it.

I just wanted to send a thanks to Sundown for sponsoring the car audio part of Carl Casper. I think the guys that used your equipment there represented you well. I just wish that you could have had some sort of booth to sell various merchandise.....shirts, stickers, order equipment or whatever .
