Sundown Audio

  1. Started by mccleery3,

I just had my first time on the meter today at Slamology and I didn't do too bad, a 140.5db. The enclosure is 5cu net (to oversized for big power) tuned to 33hz (obviously not spl oriented) ran off a Sundown SAZ-1500D@ 1ohm. For a system that is made to get low and have moderate volume ability, it exceeds expectations. I did lots of demos and impressed the hell out of people that gave "just 8's" a chance SUNDWON AUDIO FTMFW!!!! BTW- the vehicle is an 07 Ford Escape and I believe that there is more in this current setup

  2. Just installed my Sundown SAZ 1000D in my Camaro. As soon as I fired it up, the protection LED lit (I thought it was the power LED at first) I unhooked the output speaker wires and reset the amp (disconnected power & ground) and tried again. Still had protection LED. I then unplugged the INPUT signals, reset the amp, and this time got the power light (woohoo!). As soon as I attempted to plug in a INPUT line, the protection LED would light up. So it's the input causing the trouble, not the output. I'm using a wiring harness from Sub Thump, maybe it's bad. I checked the wires from the harness against the wiring diagram for the car and everything seemed ok. May…

  4. I think I already know the answer to this question, but I have to ask just to be 100% sure. Does the SAX 100.4 have balanced differential input? I got a new car, and I don't want to mess with the factory HU - which outputs balanced differential. So, I need an amp that can handle this, or build/buy a converter. I have a SAX 100.4, so if this won't work, what brands DO accept this type of input? So far, I've found the JL Audio and Rockford both have amps with this input. Any others? Anyone have any luck interfacing with the HU on a 1st gen Acura TSX?

The Z v.2 woofers are back in stock. There have been a few revisions made : 1) The top shorting ring has been removed -- but the internal ring was upgraded from aluminum to copper. 2) The coil windings changed from 4-layer flat aluminum to 4-layer round bifilar copper -- this lowers Fs a bit and I tested no loss in efficiency at lower power and a small gain at high power. Coil is a bit more robust than the aluminum was as well due to additional mass. Copper also has a lower thermal expansion to accommodate the Z v.2 tight gap. All in all it makes the driver more tolerant to abuse. --- We still have the 4-layer flat aluminum coils to match other subs on re-cones... also, t…

And well, i will let the following photo say it all...... The car has 2 x Sundown 4500d's Strapped at 0.35 - 0.175 per amp Measured output across the pair 105.3 volts 121.2 amps = 12,762 watts output - or in laymans terms "a ****load" Battery was dropping to 10.5 volts as well! I do not condont this sort of abuse - one of the amps was going into protect which is something i need to investigate further, however whichever way you look at it - 6.3K from a 4.5k amp with no engine charging the battery (StreetMax) is pretty awesome going. I feel i must also give some of the credit to the DC LV 4XL SPL motored subs, as they seem to be standing up to the abuse very well so f…

Yes... "Blownest" may not be a word... but I think it needs to be after seeing this woofer. I do not know who this belonged to exactly but Nick @ SI is re-coning it at my shop today so we thoroughly documented the carnage. Just had to share. * Thats not so bad, right ? * Well... that isn't normal. * Back of the surround should be gray. * Melted material and discoloration on the pole. * Wow. * Kapton wrap of the former is melted and puddled up on top of the triple joint. * That used to be a plastic former cap from under the dust cap. * The solder actually re-melted... * Some of the solder formerly from the connection point * That should be black. * Insider of…

Decided to finally get started on it. The Jeep will be getting a no-wall 4th order build with two 15s. * Battery / Amp Rack area cleaned out... everything un-installed. My multi-channels will sit on those two little platforms where the batteries used to be. * New floor piece cut - everything will attach to this piece. * Of course XS Power D1600s will be used --- That is all for now... just ripped it all out this morning and Brandon helped me cut out the floor piece. Will make progress when time allows.

So, I reinstalled all my equipment last night in my vehicle (4SA8's on a SAZ-1500D) and starting hearing this really odd tingy vibration. I immediately freaked out and thought that I blew a sub or subs. I localized it to one sub in particular and noticed that when I pushed down slightly on the dustcap that it went away. I've never had anything like this happen before and was clueless. After a sleepless night of worry and kicking myself in the ass repeatedly, I sent Jacob an email this morning around 9. I was walked through several things to look for and after a few emails, he told me to do the loctite tutorial. I've just got done doing it, letting it cure, and everything …

So... the SA-8 is pretty badass... but I want something louder. Starting on this project : Yep... a Neo 8 with a 3" coil and 22mm linear one-way excursion (that is XBL^2 that you see) and x-mech of 27mm on the frame I'll be utilizing. Will handle around 1000-watts RMS without much trouble thermally and mechanically. Tooling new spiders and cones just for this driver. Going to see how it turns out... but simulation predicts motor force more than 300% higher than the SA-8 if all turns out according to plan. I am designing it for myself primarily as I want to do 157s with four 8s... but I think others will enjoy them too =) Pricing will be a bit higher than an NS v.2 due t…

Two quick questions that are really easy but i can't seem to find. Is the remote that comes with a SAZ-3000d for bass-boost or gain? I think it's for gain but i want to be sure before anything bad happens. Also, i have read what to set the Subsonic filter too, but what about the Low pass? Is it just a "whatever sounds better to you" thing? Or will setting it too high hurt my Sub? thanks!
