I just installed my SAX100.4 and when I was hooking up the Power/Ground I got a spark. I had hooked up the ground first and was undoing the screw for the positive connection on the amp. I guess the side of the screwdriver touched the the side of the amp and the positive screw at the same time and sparked a little. The amp works but I can't think of why it did this. Anyone care to enlighten me? Also, I was wondering what exactly the remote knob controls? Is it gain or bass boost?

I finally got my saz2000d and 4 - sa-8's installed today. You can see my build log on this forum if you like. This is in a 2000 ford ranger. I've installed a db electrical 200 amp alt. I've run a 1/0 cable from the alternator to the battery. I was planning on replacing the battery in the truck soon, when it went bad I bought the cheapo 500 cca for $35.00 about a year ago. I have 4 - runs of 1/0 flex cable from the battery to the rear of the truck. 2 of those runs (pos./neg.) are for the 2000d. The 4 sa8's are ( coils in series ) woofers parallel to amp. 1 ohm. 3.2 c.f. (net) enclosure tuned to 32 hertz. My problem is the amp goes into protection when there's a quick/short…

well i found a new toy that loves the high notes.in our testing it was able to do a 155 outlaw @ 71hrtz with 1 NS12 and a 40.1 on 12 volt.this new vehicle is stock from head to toe. no damp,no duct tape nothing yet.since i was using a freind of mine equipment.I need to start getting my own again so I want to go with a lighter sub like 2 x sa10's and a [email protected] to start out with since i cant afford what I need. will the sa 10's hold up to some 71 hrt burps until i can afford some bigger subs and more power? this new vehicle is crazy loud to start out we tested for about 2 hours before we got to a 154.7 with a box that was just sitting in the garage. LOL once i find the swee…

First off, thanks to Jacob of Sundown Audio for letting me review this driver I always like listening to lower-power woofers in the 2-300W range, because these smaller drivers show that especially when musical accuracy is concerned, you don't need the multi-kW behemoths that are becoming commonplace these days. Just 300W and a small sealed enclosure is often times all you need to realistically reproduce most anything you can throw at it. For this review, I wired the voice coils for a combined 8 ohm load, with an Xover point of 50Hz @ 24dB/oct. The enclosure was slightly under 1cF, sealed. Aesthetics: You normally don't expect much in the way of build quality for subwoofe…

Today I was doing some testing on a new setup and I got some incredible #s out of my Sundown 1500d. It was running @ 0.5ohm pushing a pair of d2 Kicker cvr 15s. A 50hz test tone was used. The output voltage was 42.2v and the clamp meter read 64.1a of current output. Thats 2700watts w/ rise to 0.65 ohms. I couldn't believe it so I moved the clamp and dmm to the input side and got 315a of current draw w/ voltage dropping from 14.3v to 12.8v. 315a * 12.8v = 2700watts of ouput @ 67% efficiency. Am I doing this correct? I'm completely astounded to see 2700watts out of a single 1500d. In case anyone's interested, the setup hit a 147.3 on a TL legal, sealed, mic on the …

  21. I was wonder have any testing been done on the SAX 100.2 and SAX 100.4. I about to become a dealer and I'm really in to great multi channel amps and I'm building a SQ comp car now and using DLS ultimate amps. I would just like to now want the real world output of these amps are, seeing how much headroom is built into the sub amps. Thanks for all the help in advance.

  22. I know alot of folks have a hard time understanding my explanation of this all in text format; so lets visualize it based on some Klippel results. I had the first Z v.4 15" prototype Klippel tested; as explained on the image the production model will test even better since I did a hyper-extended pole compared to the standard height pole extension on the sample but I haven't had a chance to actually re-do the test -- but I have verified in FEA and via doing similar comparisons with Klippel on other drivers with the same changes what the result would be. The SA-12 is a production unit -- and most people know how an SA-12 sounds; and most people love it. It has what I woul…

  23. Okay.. I might be able to snag a pair of these 10w7 for a decent price. However, I am worried that because they are single 3 ohm coils, then I will not be able to run them efficiently on the Sundown amps. The 10w7 is rated at 750 watts rms each at 3 ohms. What are some amp and wiring configurations that would work for me? I'd like to give them their recommended power, but the JL website shows that the subs don't like to handle more than 750 watts continuous as it gets to the black line (warranty voided). Is this power rating from JL "over-rated" or "under-rated" for their subs? http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=5 I currently have 2 gauge power and g…

So after I was quoted two days to get get it done... and them taking three days... I finally got my car back. Only having the car a couple hours, so far these JL Audio 8W7's are fantastic! Very solid and far louder than I expected. From Kid Rock to Jay-Z, the subs great and clean. Very pleased! The best part is the Image Dynamics components. These get crazy loud and a simply amazing. Plenty of mid bass and the highs are crisp. I don't have enough time in the car with this system yet, but I'll work on adding different styles of music. Too early for a review. Here are the pics! Nevermind that one of the amps is crooked. I guess I should take it back to have it fixe…
