sort of a noob question, but just wanna make sure. after having my stuff for sale for 2 months, and no one buying it, i decided to make it work in my truck. im gonna be running the set-up in my sig, and was wondering if it would be safe to mount my amp to my box. there's not really any other good place to put it, so i figured why not. its a sturdy box made out of 3/4 mdf. thanks!

This is the inside of my JBL px300.4. I have narrowed down the noise in my system (HISS) to the amplifier itself by 1) Using muting plugs 2) Removeing the amp from the vehicle and using a "test bench" if you will and a test speaker to find the same noise. It's a low hiss with the vehicle OFF and ear right up close to speakers. By "test bench" I mean I connected the amp right by my battery with the ground going straight to the battery and used a test speaker and adjusted every setting on the amp with no change - gains at zero - no rca's connected. So I took off the cover not the entire sink case and looked around. Here are the two things odd I found. I'm no expert and if t…

I know the smaller length of ground wire the better but what do they mean by small? like 3 feet and under...i really want my amp to be closer to my car cabin instead of by the trunk but thats means my ground would be about 4 feet...is that too long?

i was browsing the forums and i noticed that someone used what appeared to be regular steel nuts, bolts and washers as a wire terminal to pass wires from the sub through its enclosure (saw it in the pictures of the guy doing a review on a Fi Q 18" sub). i was wondering if anyone could confirm this as being a good method to pass wires through a sub enclosure, or should i just stop being lazy and cut out a small square in my box and put a factory made terminal to pass wires through. im guessing as long as it's a nice thick bolt with zero resistance there should be no drop in wattage. i was just hoping i could get some feedback on using this method. thanks-phil

I just received my SSA Icon D2 sub today after a longgg wait, between the box, and then the sub. So I am anxious to get everything installed, but I don't want to make any mistakes. I've been looking at this wiring diagram to wire it in parallel to 1ohm. And then from the manual I am planning on wiring it like the top picture. I'm a little confused by the diagram in the manual, I can just connect to 1 positive and 1 negative, right? I will set the gains using the stickied tutorial. What should the subsonic filter and LPF be set at? Are these lower and upper cutoffs for what frequencies my subwoofer will play? Bass boost and phase should be set at zero, correct? Are …

...and what do you like or dislike about it? I am in the market for a DMM. I read here about true rms DMMs after someone mentioned to be aware of this feature. Is this necessary for setting up gains when a constant frequency is used to get a voltage measurement? Also, how accurate or unnecessary would a clamp meter prove to be? At the moment, I feel I am shopping for a clamp meter with true rms feature. I appreciate your thoughts.

So i installed the radio about 2-3 months ago now and have loved everything about it. then, on December 29th i was driving downtown and my faceplate died. I still had music but i had no control over anything. Volume didn't work, seek, station change, cd eject, AND the remote didn't do shit either. Ok, so it went a week with no problem so i figured nothing was wrong. then friday night i was going to listen to the Zcon that TeamRamRod has and it did it again to me. i pulled over, turned my truck off, and opened the door to cut power to my radio. turned truck on and it worked. Saturday, i drove to east lansing to see my girlfriend. Turned truck off, went into her apartment t…

I'm helping a friend install some subs he has had for quite some time now, and I'd like to let him have an amp that I've been trying to sell for what seems like forever but I'm not sure if it will work. He has 2 JL Audio 10w6 (old school version) and they're DVC 6ohm which means I can wire them to either get 6ohm impedence or 1.5ohm. My question is will the JBL GTO601.1 II amplifier work? It says maximum power at 2ohms and I've heard of some people wiring them at 1ohm, but it voids the warranty. Will this be a problem or should 1.5ohm be okay? any help is appreciated -John

Hey there! Just a question, I know amps get hot, but i think mine gets too hot. It will get hot enough to burn the shit outta your hand if you touch it and count to 3. My question is, why? and can i prevent/stop this. I thought the problem was because of its location, it was under my seat, so i moved it out in the open thinking it would get more air and stay cooler. But i was wrong. It gets this hot on my way to and from work, so day and night regardless of outside temp. maybe 30 minutes of play. Its this amp - http://crunchusa.net/Crunch_PowerOneAmp.html the one in the picture. 2050.1 and i have 2 IA Lethal Injection 12's D4. My voltage never drops below 12, never. Any i…

Ok, I'm looking to put a new H/U in. Here are my parameters: -nav built in bluetooth built in -ipod control -dvd -double din -5.8" or bigger screen -sub pre outs Right now, I'm leaning towards the Pioneer Premier f90bt. A friend of mine has one and I'm really impressed with it. I can find it for about $650 new and $475 refurb on Ebay(would you guys trust a refurb???) The only thing I don't like about the unit is the cd slot. Its petty, but I'm used to flipdowns where the slot is behind the face. I think it looks a little sleeker, plus you get an extra inch or so of screen. Opinions on this unit? Anybody have any suggestions for similar units, preferably around the same pr…

so i got: optima yellowtop under the hood kinetik hc2400 on the back iraggi 240/165 amp alternator it was running fine for about a week since i installed it, my voltages were: 14.2@idle, 13.4v w/ engine off this morning it was running fine too so when i was leaving this afternoon, i noticed the battery gauge was pretty low i checked the voltage and it was only 12.7 while the car is idling and system is off so i turned my car off and checked the voltage, it was 12.8 so i disconnected my powerwire that runs to the back battery and the amps after about half hour driving i checked the voltage, while idle it was 12.3 when it was off it was 12.5 what do you guys think? did my …

I'm waiting on my wire to come in so I'm trying to map out how I'm going to wire it up. 1998 Ext f150, 2 15 ufo btls on a saz 3500 for now, eventually 5-7k, Audio Technix ofc 0ga and 10ga just for background info. This will be my first time running my own wire so I just wanted to double check this would be sufficent for my build. I would like to avoid cutting a hole in the floor and since I had a couple holes already I figured I'd use them. The holes are the mounting holes for my back bench that I took out. Obviously the carpet will be cut away completely and the area will be sanded/cleaned up. I'm thinking use a bolt (with or without washers idk what is better) and h…

I've been reading and reading and I guess I haven't really seen it explained in a way that I understand 100% so I must ask. Let's say I have a dual 1 ohm sub, If I wire it in series to a pair of strapped amps each amp will be seeing a 1 ohm load right? When I wire it I simply sire in series to the 1st amp and just run the RCA to the slave amp?

Just some info on my system I will try to give the whole run down in case its needed. Ok I'm not that good at this but have a newer amp with 6 chips on the PS sink. Seems to be two transformers and 3 fets each, the output is on other side of chassis. Well the 3rd and 6th one are shorted pos to neg and blew the +12v trace. If shorted then they must be bad, the rest are near same ohms and not on/shorted at rest and all same # chips. Anyway, can I just replace them....what would cause this to happen? Would something else be shot too? They are $15 each so far I've found. Yes this is a junk explode amp, but might as well see what I can do its like new otherwise and 500wx1rms so not bad. I've been told not to substitute parts on new amps, have no idea what was d…

hey all i am looking to upgrade from my us amps xt1600.2 which i recently found out is highly over rated (noob purchase..my bad) to something with a more true rms rating. i am looking to spend about $250 tops and although i know that is not a very big budget i just need something that pushes closer to the 1000rms rating of my ssa icon 12''. i am looking at hifonics brand amps and have come across these two. http://www.audiosavings.com/products/Car-Amplifiers/HIFONICS-BRUTUS-BRZ1200.1D-1200w-MONO-AMPLIFIERAMP-KIT/BRZ1200.1D---XK4B1.aspx and http://www.audiosavings.com/products/Car-Amplifiers/HIFONICS-HFI1500D-1500W-MONO-CLASS-D-AMPLIFIERAMP-KIT/HFI1500D---XK4B1.a…
