Ok, so lets take for example the Sundown SAE-1200D. 1200W @ 1ohm and an input sensitivy ranging from .153V to 5.6V. For everything in this post lets assume no clipping of the audio signal from the source unit and say the source unit is putting out 3V from the pre-outs. What is going to happen if you turn the gain knob "up" (as in toward the .2V) after you have matched the gains of the amp to the sensitivity of your source? I assume it will not put out more power. Will it begin to send the amplifier into clipping?

Found this guide on another forum, and given the slew of recent threads on troubleshooting noise, thought I would post it here. One word of warning is that some HU's and/or processors nowadays have a zero bit mute, which essentially cuts off the output during low signal passages to reduce noise.....so be aware if this is a feature your unit has. Onward to the guide; How can you eliminate alternator whine in a car audio system? If you have alternator whine in a car audio system and want to get rid of it, there is only one sure-fire way to do it. David Navone and Richard Clark from Autosound 2000 in the USA developed the following step-by-step instructions. If you follow th…

  3. Another great read that I felt was worth having here also: Anatomy of the Power Amplifier Dissecting the Modern Audio Power Amplifier and Power Supply By Robert Zeff With the Proliferation of Different Amp Types, Which is the One for You? In the past we had essentially two types of amplifiers to choose from: Class "AB" and class "A". Today we have AB, A, D, G, H, & T, in addition to some that do not have a class name. New technology brought down the size and price while improving performance and efficiency. We'll review the various topologies of the modern amplifier, spending extra time on the aspect of efficiency (as the quest for smaller, more efficient designs have…

  5. I'm thinking about a PRS-80 to replace my Kenwood KDC 896. Its a very good quality deck, but there's not many audio adjustments and the interface is hard to use while driving. Would the PRS-80 be a considerable upgrade from a SQ and ease of use standpoint? . If anyone has a better suggestion for a head unit or maybe an alternative (Sound processors) please let me know. Alright guys! Its time to upgrade to some new power. My 4k's are beast, but old and a bit out dated. So I thought I would change it up, talked to the guys at ESL and hooked up with some new amps!! So I ordered one up to see how it performs. And I plan to add a second one in the near future. So it arrived yesterday in the mail. But I had to wait all day to get to see it. But when I got home I was greeted with a nice V-Day surprise. Overall quality and craftsmanship looks nice. Its different then just about every other 5k I have seen (layout wise) and all things look very stout! Large wire beefy power supply torrid's,huge output filters, 24 input FET's. Th…

I have seen people talk about their products time to time, mostly the super tweeters, but does anyone have experience with the amps? The website says two year transferable warranty and the amps look similar to sundown, atomic, and a few other brands I have seen. I might look into purchasing two of those 3KWDs considering they are 550 a piece.

I'll be running 8-8"s and 4 tweets on a SAX 100.4D and I want to have some good processing at my finger tips which is why I don't want a trunk mounted EQ. my two options are: 1.) Keep my Factory Pioneer Scion TC deck (which has a L/R and rear sub outs just like an aftermarket deck) and add an AudioControl Three.2 to it or 2.) get a bad ass headunit that has multiple procesing features to it such as Alpines CDA-117 (or similar, if you know of a better option let me know as well) and just use it's features. Thanks! I'm really torn between the two and need some more experienced opinions on where to spend my money. yes I know it would be best to do both but its hard to drop a…

so this guy is wantin to buy my saz1500 for $300(which i turned down) or trade me a dd m1a. i told him id be screwin myself out of 300w rated power and more "real" power. then he says saz is rated at 1500 @ 14.4v so i brought up jacobs testing thread and proved that it does well over 1500 at 12.8. so he goes on to say the dd is actually a better quality built amp and will be about even with the saz at 1ohm cuz the dd's 1200 rating is at 11.4v. and he said he needs a amp thats half ohm stable even though they r both 1ohm stable he knows the the saz can take a .5 load. which the saz can actually go lower ohm wise. i told him to throw something or some 80 cash (i need a reco…

Anyone ever heard of next amplifiers or have any experience with them? I can get them for really cheap and they appear to be pretty decent. I know of someone blowing out a large inventory of amplifiers and speakers. If you go to: http://www.audiohaus.com/produkte/i...rodukte&marke=8 you will find the company. There are links to see the full catalog as well. The prices shown are in Euros since this is a European product line (multiply by 1.3 for US dollars). his prices are 90% off the retail for speakers and 80% off for the amplifiers. heres some more info with pics. http://www.fiamm.com/en/3/prod.php/22;225 There is another line he has that is not up on the website ca…

  14. Well my car (2004 Scion xB) is finally getting paid off next week so it's time to prepare for the upgrades. I just ordered my 12" Ethos and am planning on most likely a SQ2200D to power it. To begin with the front stage will be run off a Hifonics X14 X1200.4. The X14 is supposedly rated at 150x4 @4 and 300x4 @2. So total wattage should be around 3k RMS. I'm getting a 220 amp ho alt from Js Ultimate alts. I know I'm going to need a battery upgrade. Will I need an extra battery for the rear? My guess is yes, so I need to know what size and what to do as far as fusing/isolating/regulating the batteries and amps. I have some 1/0 cable for big 3 upgrade and will probably nee…

  17. This wouldnt be really recommended for those who do not compete so I'll tell you now that this isn't necessary or needed for normal use of an amplifier. But for those who want the most out of their amps on the meter, read on... I am going to be getting into some projects soon for the car audio comp world and start making my own everything... I have several plans laid out for the competition world and for starters, i plan on making some multi insert wire blocks. Basically what it is is this- (for amps that accept 1/0 inserts only at this time) It would be a block of copper that inserts into the amp's power\ground terminal then outputs in a manner that can accept 2 ring ter…

ok first off, i know how you guys are lol, so please dont flame me. i need help with what crossovers to get/should i just get custom ones? now, this is what i currently have: 8 eminence apt80 tweeters, 6 eminence 6.5" midrange, and 2 eminence 6.5" midbass. i didnt realize it would be easier to set up the crossovers if i had the same number of midrange and tweets. so im gonna get 2 more 6.5" midrange, and mount them in the wall behind me. the other 6 will be in the front doors, 3 per side. there will be 4 tweets per side. and the 2 midbass will be in the kicks. now. this guy i was talking with said to run 2 seperate amps. one for the midbass, and one for the midrange/tweet…

I have an AudioQue 1200 running my single fully loaded 10" FI Q. Wednesday omw to school, my amp cut out. I took the inline fuse out (which looked perfectly fine) and replaced it (i use 100A fuses). Thankfully my amp started working again. Thursday omw to school same thing happened. my amp cut out. This fuse was definitely blown. I immediatly ordered a circuit breaker because I was tired of replacing the fuses (the audio shop where i got the stuff installed at charges me $5 for a fuse). I went to Advanced Auto Parts store and bought a 50A fuse hoping it will hold me untill i get my circuit breaker. When i put the fuse in the fuse holder, the power light on the bass…

  21. Well, i just spent the last few days researchin this myth of Iraggi alts and kinetik batts dont go together... That sounds stupid, i know, but people have problems so i decided to try and find the answer. What i have found is interesting if you didn't know so hopefully this will help those that already have their batts and those planning on purchasing as well. A long time ago in China there was..... Oh oops, wrong story. Ok, here is the theoretical problem- Kinetik batts are only capable of accepting voltages up to 14.3v MAX Voltages above 14.3v can only be done in quick spurts. Kinetik told me that anything over 3-4hrs of constant voltage higher than 14.3v will lead to p…

so as it is stated i have light dimming. i recently well a few hours ago installed a newish alternator for my 2000 toyota camry the alternator is from a totaled/damaged 2003 toyota highlander which is 130amps rather then the stop 80 amp alternator that came with the camry. so car i did the "big 2 upgrade" which consists of batt + to alt +', batt - to strut tower and the new alternator when i turn the up to where i normally put it with the old one well 5 notchs up the lights dim but if im calculations are correct the newish alt should have enough power to power the subs and the rest of the car no problem. but that is not that case. since the amp gain is less the half way …

ok so i have a 1997 cavalier and in it is 2 12 inch sundown audio sa-12's, 1 saz-1500D on 1 ohm, a box that is tuned to 28ish and has about 4.5 cubes including my port. I also have a kinetik hc800 hooked up to this system. I am using a Kenwood eXcelon kdc-x395 head unit with 4 gauge wire all around and no big 3 atm. My problem is that when i have this system turned up past 30 (max is 35) on certain songs my deck will shut off and it turns my subs off too, and seems to reboot it self and then resumes playing, and i have no idea why. i dont have the volume maxed either i never go above 33 unless the songs arent very bassy, like with eminem and some other rappers with light …
