Power compression is a topic that is rarely discussed, but always important. When you hear someone call various theile/small parameters a “small signal parameter”, the implication is that with larger signals (more power), there will be a shift or change in these theile/small parameters. This is what we call power compression, and occurs in 3 potential ways. The first thing to consider is how theile/small parameters are derived. There are 5 basic parameters from which all other data is extracted. These parameters are Re, BL, Mms, Sd, and Cms. So looking at this from a mathematical standpoint, a change in any of these parameters will cause a change in all other parameters a…

  5. I get a lot of PM's with comments that go like this... "I'd like to be in the upper 13's or even 14's full tilt", & hoping for that with one, maybe two alternators on 12,000 watts of power." There are two main sources of power in your system. One is the alternator, which is around 14.5 volts, & the other is the battery, which is 12.8-13.3 at best. So basically two voltage levels, 13.0 & 14.5,... & a very, very small gray area in-between those two numbers. The higher voltage source is the one producing ALL the current until the voltage drops to the next highest source, then that one will start helping. That's why you see voltage go fr…

  7. Hey guys, often times in fiberglass installs you will have multiple speaker rings that require being mounted at the exact same angle in order to maintain perfect symmetry. You do not want to spend hours on a piece that in the end has angles that are not the same. How can you insure that your speaker angles are perfect without measuring a million different angle and points? Here is my quick tip of the week to show you how:

Hi all A big request to those who have the Clarion HX-D1 in free access: take a picture, please, if there is a possibility of the internal structure of the head and its front panel on the inside. And if anyone has a removed front panel board, and it is possible to make a photo of it from two sides, it will be great at all !!! Thanks for attention!)

  9. I have an old school 10" Orion Cobalt subwoofer that has a perfect coil, but needs a new surround , dustcap and spider. Does anyone know where I can buy these kind of parts individually for relatively cheap? MAT Electronics has everything I need for VERY cheap, but I think you have to have a minimum order of $30 before shipping costs, which sucks considering the parts I need are less than 5$ for everything.. I don't need anything extreme as far as parts are concerned.. Just a simple spider that I can attach to a 2" coil and a foam or rubber surround to make this sub playable again. More for a fun little project and to have a speaker to play with than anything which is why…

  10. Don't really see a security section, but I just had a quick question regarding Directed units that feaure the dual stage impact sensor that is an internal part of the main unit. I used to mount external impact sensors to the steering column shaft. I always seemed to have good results with the sensitivity there. Anyway, the new units that are all integeral, state in the install manual "since the shock sensor does not work well when mounted firmly to metal, we recommend against screwing down the control module" So how and where is the best place to mount to control module? I just installed one top of the line 2 way unit earlier with zip ties to part of the metal dash brac…

Hello, I have a little problem and don't know for sure how to solve it. I have two FI 15 inch subs and am running two 5200 watt amps. They are wired seperatly but are drawing power from the two 850 amp batteries originally in the van and two additional Kinetik 3800 batteries wired parallel. The problem is that I burned up a brand spanking new 250 Amp alternator from Excessive amps. I am new to this and don't know if trying to draw the 10400 watts from the batteries overworked the amp or what... Any idea what I have wrong that I need to fix?? Many thanks I appreciate it.

  12. So i'm putting the order into Soundqubed in about a week for a 3500. I want to do everything I can to keep it in good condition. I have seen people mount amps using rubber bushings, washers and spacers. and I have seen plenty of "straight to wood, seatback" amp mounting. I definitely want to put it on bushings of some sort or build an amp rack, maybe a combination of the two. I was also wondering about separating the amps mounting postion from the subs, box and trunk area to try and reduce hard vibrations as much as I can. Is this necessary? How do I mount the amp with rubber "feet" so to speak? and where do I get them? Should i separate the subs from the amp? Just for…

I am going to install a sub/amp in a 2000 Accord EX this weekend. Has the factory CD player in it. Does anyone know if that will have a power turn on/powered antenna output to switch the amp on/off? I don't want to wire a switch or run it off ignition... Also, no PAC TRUNK-LOC or anything like that in the build, amp has high level inputs, and that is all it will get... Any help would be appreciated guys... -Mike

I am looking at getting theHertz HSK 165.4 speakers for a daily street beater / comp car and would like to do all the wiring myself. Does anybody have any experience or knowledge with wiring a 2002 VW Passat without the monsoon system? Like where are the voids at? where can I run wiring? I have never done any of this stuff so any help is appreciated! Pretty much at this time the questions I can think of are the ones stated above and: How do I wire my speakers. do I go from the speaker to the crossover to the amp? or speaker to the crossover to the deck? then the amp? What kind of wiring should I be using? Should I use some normal speaker wire? or should i beef it up? I…

hey guys. i know a buddy of mine whos got an RE SXX on an SAE-1200d 220a OEM series dc power alt 2 out of 3 big 3 optima yellowtop and 0ga to the amp and hes having issues with his sub cutting out randomly. the amp isnt going into protection and when it cuts out its only momentarily. i noticed he was only running one set of 12ga from the amp to the sub and told him he should step that up. my only other thoughts would be a ground problem but im not sure what else it could be. any advice would be appreciated.

I would like to salvage this speaker if possible but I cannot find a voice coil anywhere online. Im hoping that in all of your grand knowledge and experience you might be able to point me in the right direction , thank you for your time. Vik R

I need an experts help, every time I try to make a box a very specific size, like certain dimensions. It automatically changes all the others I had. Example is, Say I want Side A to be 20", so I type 20. The program automatically adds numbers to side B & C. Then when I try to put in my own number in side "B" it changes A & C automatically. Even when I want A to stay the same, it changes it. What can I do?
