I think Jim and I are the only full range people on here, but what the hell. I'm looking to build a replacement set of speakers to change up my basement setup. I'm currently running QSC pro amps and a pair of Magnepan MG-IIB's, the sub stage will be covered by Mach 5 audio MAW-15's in stereo. I've been listening to my BBBIB's more and more and I'm loving the sound more than my maggies, plus I'm itching to build something knew. I'm leaning heavily on the frugel horn spawns (the Bruce is what I'm looking at), something in the range of an 8" or larger full range setup. I would love to do another BIB, but I feel that my ceilings in the basement are to short for that, I…

Hi guys, let me start by saying this is my first venture into home subwoofers. I have a very old('97) Orion 2NT 15". It has been sitting in a cabinet in the garage so long I forgot it was in there until recently. I want to try it out in the theater room just to see what it would sound like. The spec sheet recommends 2.7 cu.ft. for a ported box. Should I build the same size box for home use? I have a 500watt plate amp that I will be using.

So I have looked around in the internet and found out that you can install car audio stuff with a power supply. My brother fixes computers so i have plenty of those I have a pioneer head unit. and 1 12 inch sub and was wondering if i can connect those to my computer. Along with an amp to power the sub.

Ok well i need suggestions for a home audio setup for my room.... Once i get a little money i might re-do it.... I have an older (maybe 8-10 years old) Technics reciever and it is fine so i don't see any reason to get rid of it... I also have some jbl speakers from a Home-Theatre-In-The-Box type thing we bought a while back... There is a KLH sub in my room too that sucks pretty bad and would be the first thing to go.... It has a 125 watt plate amp on it but not sure how true that rating it, although i do believe it is rms.... My budget is $300 bucks for a subwoofer amp.... How much would a decent 500 watt RMS amp cost and would it be a direct hookup to where my powered su…

Yeah. Yesterday, I was slamming, and playing some tones. Today, most of the fluorescent lights in the next room don't turn on. That room is separated by two double walls though. Coincidence? The bulbs aren't broken, but they don't ignite, like the starter is busted. Just wondering if others have had similar problems in their HT.

I have a Home Theatre in a box (I know...but it was cheap) and I am installing new speakers, including an active Subwoofer. The Subwoofer output from the AV receiver is two-wire (Pos and neg) but the new Subwoofer has a single RCA jack input. Someone suggested using an LLC, but I have no experience in this area.

Has anyone had any experience building transmission line enclosures for a 12" SSD. Saw a post on another forum where this person used a Fi SE, 12", to build one and everything I read about these cabinets talks about how accurate and loud they can be. Only downside is they are HUGE and heavy, but in comparison to regular sealed and ported enclosures they are superior, best match for any driver, superior SQ, and the most output. Also, this one was tuned to 25hz and would reputedly play notes an octave below that no problem. Sounds like it may be a good design for a combination music/HT enclosure. Any thoughts about these claims and or experience would be appreciated. satwil…

JimJ, where can I get the Shure cartridge that you mentioned? or what are some good budget minded cartridges? Would love to get this thing running again. Will hopefully sound great when I get some BIB's up, built, and running

Just finished these for my cousin. They are Murphyblaster Usher 2-ways on top and Tang Band 8" on the bottom. http://murphyblaster.com/content.php?f=usher2way.html Cabinets are built similar to my NCMS Rhythms. 2.25" fronts, 1.5" on other sides, internally braced. Drivers flush mounted. The top half of the inside of the cabinet is coated with a mix of 1/2 premix dry wall compound and 1/2 tacky glue. Cabinets are more than "dead". Outside is covered in black ash laminate. The front baffle is spaced 1/8" to allow painting with a good end for the laminate. Also looks cool if you know much about cabinets, because you can tell how thick the fronts are. . . Here is the …

  10. I have a pair of Cerwin-Vega RE-30s in great condition. Today, I had the idea of playing the "In the Air Tonight" bass test version on them for the hell of it. Throughout the song, I heard this somewhat loud vibrate/hissing (hard to describe) coming from each cabinet. I figured it was just air coming from the port, but after further inspection, it seems that it is actually air escaping from around the fuse "box." I have never heard this before, probably because I have never played anything very bass heavy with soft-ish mids and highs. I thought that cabinets and boxes are suppose to be pretty air tight, or at least not let this much air out. My question is, why is this ha…

  13. Right now I have an MJ18-M in 11 cubes net tuned to 20hz with about 650 watts. I was wondering if I would get more output with an 18" Nightshade at the low end in the same enclosure? I listen to music about 15% and watch movies and play games 85%. I have a behringer EP1500 watt amp. Is it worth switching or not? I can get a trade for the nightshade is why I am asking. Here's the situation. I recently purchased a TV and surround sound system for my college apartment. I'm trying to get audio from my TV to the surround sound receiver via RCA. The problem is that the only audio output that my TV has is a coaxial output. The Receiver only has RCA inputs. Is there some sort of cable or converter type deal that can run a Coax cable and split into an RCA on the other end to put into the receiver?

I don't have any clue what it is called, but i recall a program for the computer with a series of microphones that listen to a given song or test track and give a top view of the sound waves throughout the room. I am trying to figure out what it is, so we can dial in the system my church currently owns. Thanks! -Chris

(Crosspost from the Daber Audio forum) Hey guys, I thought I’d drop a quick line and show you a project I was working on. This is my interpretation of a project I had found online and had found interesting. This is a pretty basic build, nothing too special. All of these pictures are from inside of my house since I needed my amp to make final crossver adjustments if needed. I sold my Thiel CS 2.2's to fund this build. The drivers are: 8” Hi-Vi M8N magnesium/aluminum driver woofer, 3” Dayton dome mid, and Hi-Vi RT-1C planar tweeter. http://www.daberaudio.com/projectimages/back%20of%20drivers.jpg The crossovers are not yet soldered, but you can see the individual boa…

  19. My little sister is wanting a cheap little set up. Nothing fancy just something cheap and sounds halfway decent at normal listening levels. Her room is pretty small so Imaging is not a concern. She would be happy with something off the shelf from Walmart but she wants me to help build something that is hers. I'll more than likely buy a small 4 channel amp from parts express and build the crossovers and add a 3.5mm plug so she can hook her Iphone to it. I was looking at these Dayton's they are pretty cheap about 20 bucks a piece: DC28F-8 and DC160-8. My question is would y'all recommend anything else that's around the same price range. My knowledge of what's avail…

Ok so I have finaly decided to start my home audio setup and I wanted to designing the sub. My plans are to use a ssa DCON 12 in a downfiring box tuned to 25 hz with the port facing forward.I realy want to get a second opinion on this design. The dementions will be 17.5x17.5x17.5, simple enough,it will be constructed out of 3/4 mdf and the internal volume will be roughly 2.23 cuft after sub displacement. Il try to add pics of a cad modle I made of it asap, but as of now, I just want to get a second opinion. Will this work?, or should I go at this a different way

I was playing tones and it pops when I start stop the tones and a high pitch ringin out of the mids. I just use this thing to play music out of my computer, and I'm using 3.5mm to rca ran under my baseboard to the reciever and it is hooked into the aux. I'll have a video..

Hey guys, I'm trying to make my first h/t setup. I really need two seperate setups, one to please the wife, and a second for me. I've been into car audio for years, but until recently I was only home for a few hours to sleep, so the car was more important than the house. I'll give you a run down of my expectations and limitations, as well as what I already have/will have/have planned. Expectations: I really want something that's going to sound good, get the full range very well, and not break the bank. I'll probably have to take my time to get everything I want right, but I need to know what to look for. Limitations: My wife. She wants a decent sounding system that'll be…
