Im building a set of speaker towers that will be used for strictly music. They will each have a subwoofer, which is my question. Im going to put in a 15'' subwoofer in each one and they will either be FI Q's or Bl's. I would like to know which ones will sound better with quality and bass and overall sounding. Power is not a problem Thanks

I've got an 06 RE XXX 12 which I was going to sell. Screw it...I'll just keep it. I am not really concerned with saving space. I'm looking for something to play with music more than for movies. It will be in a rather large room (my living room and kitchen are connected without a dividing wall). Can anyone guide me as far as box size and tuning? I can do the rest. I'll be powering this with a Crown XTi 2000 (2000 watts into 4 ohms). Thanks

Hello all and thank you in advance for your help. This will be my first build and I'd like to build a new subwoofer for my home audio system. I'm flexible, but would like somewhere around 800-1000W to drive a 12" sub in a ported box, and to do this I plan to spend somewhere around $500 or so. I don't have a great idea of what a realistic budget is, so I'm flexible, just would like to keep costs down. I need some help figuring out where to start. Could someone please point me in the direction of some good resources regarding amplifier selection specifically? Thank you all. Quick edit: I'm using an optical connection from my computer to a Yamaha RX-V67…

Im in need of a new home theater reciever for my room. My older sony reciever finally gave out the other day, and i cant stand listening to my games and movies through my tv speakers! I dont have too much money to spend on one(roughly $200). I found a couple Harman Kardon HK AVR 247's on ebay that were going for a good price, and i was wondering if that reciever will suit my setup. If not, could someone point me in the right direction? I have Polk monitor 50 floorstanders, polk r15 rears, and a Polk CS1 center. Its manly 50% games, 25% music, and 25% movies. thanks

ok heres the deal...im gonna order my 2 mj-18s whenever, its not on the top of my list right now, as i dont have a reciever yet, or crossover for the sub amp, etc...but i need the box built so when i get the subs, ill just drop them in. however, ive got some idea's, and id like your input on them. ive been told to do about 4.5 cubes per mj-18, tuned to 30hz. so im just gonna make a 9cu ft box tuned to 30hz (unless you guys suggest something different) and what i want to do, since space is limited, i want this to be the bottom of my desk. meaning the subs will be down firing (possibly the port too, if not, i dont care if the port is showing) and on top, what im gonna do is…

I'm looking to do a bit of an expirement. My HT system is a "people's choice" ORB AUDIO setup. I have two orbs (two 4' orbs) for all four channels. Anyway, The orbs have no real midbass. I have no connection between my sub and the orbs. I'm looking for a good 280hz-60hz. The best crossover point for these are around 120hz as per manufacture. I'm wanting to build a midbass enclosure to add to this setup. Not sure if things will work but I'm always willing to try. I don't want to spend too much at this point, probably around $30-40 for the mids and a simple crossover design to go along. I know I may be missing some info for some, so let me know what questions you have for m…

I am trying to help a member here on SSA with his home theater sub project. He is currently using a Fi 12" SSD in 1 cube sealed with polyfill running off of a 1400w Behringer amp. He is changing his setup to a Mach5 18" running off the same amp but ported tuned to around 18hz. His amp only has a 30hz or 50hz roll off choice. I have searched and searched for crossovers that have a subsonic filter on them that can be tuned to roll off around 15-20hz. I'm trying to find one for under $150, $80-$120 is more ideal. I have came across Harrison Labs 20hz FMOD adapters. This is currently the only thing i have found. Is it ok or worth using? IT's just for movies and the occasi…

I bought this speaker and put it in a prefab box. it does good but i think it could do better if it was in a better built box.( moves allot of air) it is in my room something the size of a dorm room. I use it mostly for music, I'm thinking maybe tuning it to 35-40 Hz. I would like to put it in a t line, but my box desinging skills are not up to par. Could some one help me out with some dimensions??? I'm not looking for sq. I know its a small speaker, but I'm in Iraq right now so I wanted something that Can pack up easily. and not take up to much space. Below is the speaker and the amp i have. Thanks for any help u can give me. The amp i am using The speaker

Hi all, I know the minimum for car audio but regarding HT setups, I'm a real newbie First of all, I want to understand some concepts: - what is the use of a pre-amp? - what is the use of a AV receiver? Only for 5.1? - is an AV receiver an integrated amplifier for 5.1? (stupid question I know lol) - what "cartridges" do? - are surround soud processors necessary? I'm pretty much set on some components for a 5.1 setup: *Blu-ray Player: PlayStation 3 *Projector: Panasonic AE2000U *Front Floor-standing Speakers: Gallo Reference 3 (pair) *Front integrated amp: PrimaLuna Prologue 2 *Center Speaker: Gallo Reference Center *Side Speaker: Gallo Reference Du

Alright, so I have built and done some pretty crazy custom car audio builds and projects. I now live in the city of Chicago, and don't spend much time in the car so have sold most of my equipment. I still love my Hybrid Audio 4" mids, and would now like to incorporate them into a home theater system. I work for Best Buy as Magnolia Home Theater professional, and have tons of knowledge in the field, but this will be my first time building a home theater system from components. I have two pairs of the Mids, so 4 4.75" midrange drivers. I want to start this system by building a really nice pair of tower speakers. I was thinking of using a nice wood and maybe staining …

Wasn't sure where to post this, so I'm going to put it here. Upgraded from a pair of Sennheiser HD595. These things sound amazing and my amp for them hasn't even come in yet.

Well, First, I was either looking at two of these MLI-65 http://www.mach5audio.com/product_info.php...37171c76d02db5d OR MTX T4508-04 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/Pr...ProductID=13307 OR Kicker 07C8-4 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/Pr...ProductID=17406 But here is the thing, I'm not sure how I would power these. Also, how would I give it an audio signal. Then, as for speakers, and power for them and a signal to them, I'm at a complete loss. I would like to keep this as cheap as possible. Help, lol

So I got bored the other day and made a headphone stand for my desk since I was tired of them kicking around on the desk. Figured I'd go ahead and post some pictures of it. Flat back MDF base, walnut upright with 3 coats of tung oil, and a 1.25" dowel rod that was dipped in a rubber coating, then shot with flat black to match.

Well i have a Dayton HPSA1000 plate amp that been sitting here for some time now and its time to put it to use. Well my next is looking for a driver or drivers. I have tons of air space so this is not a porblem. Due to most of my money going to a different build im going to have to limit my budget for driver or drivers to 300 shipped. With the lack of budget i been considering a single 18 set up (Mach 5 IXL 18.4, FI SSD, etc). Any suggestions, im not limited to anything as long as it fits my needs? Corey

Thinking of making a 2.1 system for my dorm. I am going to use an logitech plate amp so im looking at around 200rms for the sub channel. I was looking at the 8 inch Assassin, but i'm not sure if i should go for a 10 inch. What would be a good SQ sub either 8 inch or 10 inch. My main goal is for it to be a clear sounding sub that can get much lower then the stock logitech setup

Been using CSW Model6's in my home gym for the past year. While they were good enough for the $25 I paid for them, they have their weaknesses and roll off hard at 100hz. I've had some Coustic Design Reference 7" mids sitting around for about a decade. Despite being car audio mids, they're old enough that they actually have more home audio TS parameters. Figured I'd put them to use and gain some more DIY experience at the same time. Trying to ball on a budget here as these speakers aren't uber important, more of a learning experience than anything. Decided to go with a Woofer Assisted Wideband arrangement for a couple reasons. First I wasn't sure of the …

I currently have an 8" ORB Audio sub in my home theater. My living room is about 20' X 12' and opens up to the kitchen that is about a 1/3 of the size of the living room. I currently have 2 10" AA arsenals that are sitting in my garage. I want a bigger sub stage. Something that will extend into the 20hz range. Can I use these subs for Home use? Or should I sell the pair and buy something geared toward my home theater. I really like the idea of an IB system, but I'm open to a box system in the living room. FYI, I have some building skills, so I can build an enclosure for any box design. I'm just a virgin when it comes to the home theater side of things. All suggestions ar…

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=264-821 I was wondering if it would be possible to use the new TB coax and then a large midbass in a tower and power them seperately using the cheap behringer active x-over? I was thinking the Tb coax + dayton rs270 for a 2.1 set up. If this sounds alrite, what all would i need to get this up and running? Two amplifiers, behringer x-over, reciever, pre amp, etc..?

Basically being at college sucks because i cant use my car and enjoy my car audio needs, so i am looking to get into some home audio. I want something i can build myself. Nothing to fancy yet, just a nice beginning build with great sound quality and a reasonable price for all materials, drivers, and amp.
