  2. The tempurature outside is going to be perfect for grilling in the next month or so and I decided I was tired of having to turn up the indoor setup so loud the people inside the house had to shout over it so I could listen to music. So I bought a pair of Dayton indoor/outdoor speakers today and a ton of wire (500ft). I had intentions of using the "B" channel of the "A/B" selector on my HT receiver as a channel to run the outside speakers. I found lots of information, but very little specifics on the subject. My questions. 1) Can I use the "B" speaker selector on the Yamaha RXV2400 to power these in addition to its regular duties? 2) Volume control, is it as simple as pu…

  5. my center channel I used 4 of the monster cubes in series/parallel, so it's the same impedance, same power going to them as the other 6 channels. It sits right in between the L and R. All three are at the edge of the entertainment stand, should be minimal loading if any at all. Why did Audyessey set the center only -1.5dB from the L and R rather then -3dB?

Here's the situation. I recently purchased a TV and surround sound system for my college apartment. I'm trying to get audio from my TV to the surround sound receiver via RCA. The problem is that the only audio output that my TV has is a coaxial output. The Receiver only has RCA inputs. Is there some sort of cable or converter type deal that can run a Coax cable and split into an RCA on the other end to put into the receiver?

About 5 months ago, the plate amp built into my Klipsch KSW-10 sub died. A replacement amp was $90, but I wasn't really excited about buying that same (55 Watt) amp again. After dragging my feet and trying to come up with alternative solutions and/or uses for the sub, a brilliant plan hatched where I wouldn't have to spend money. So, here's how I got my sub working again.... ThermalTake Silent PurePower 480W ATX Power Supply (18Amps @ 12Volts) - harvested from an old computer and was sitting in a box in my basement. Rockford Fosgate 200a4 Car Audio Amp (almost old school - circa 1999) - sitting in my garage unused. KSW-10 Sub - with blown plate amp First, I removed my …

As some may know i'm using a Seas CA18rnx and a cheapo tweeter as the mains. I've bought a pair of Peerles HDS tweeters and now it's time to design something better that what i have now. 1st problem are the enclosures. The sealed ones are lacking a bit of mid-bass and by the looks of Zaph's waveguide TMM graphs ported seems to open up the low-end. side view : http://www.zaphaudio.com/WaveguideTMM-2-3.pdf I thought about using the top part of the enclosure in the plans since i only have a pair of mids. Anything wrong with that ? 2nd problem : the crossover part. Should i start with first order slopes and try out some diffrent inductor and capacitor values (ie for 2khz, 2…

  15. Hello all and thank you in advance for your help. This will be my first build and I'd like to build a new subwoofer for my home audio system. I'm flexible, but would like somewhere around 800-1000W to drive a 12" sub in a ported box, and to do this I plan to spend somewhere around $500 or so. I don't have a great idea of what a realistic budget is, so I'm flexible, just would like to keep costs down. I need some help figuring out where to start. Could someone please point me in the direction of some good resources regarding amplifier selection specifically? Thank you all. Quick edit: I'm using an optical connection from my computer to a Yamaha RX-V67…

So I was at the local Goodwill, heading straight for the "Electronic section." I always check for speakers, hoping one day I will make an awesome discovery. Well, this day, I spotted a set of interesting speakers. The first thing that I noticed was that they were heavy as crap! They were Grafyx Model 6 speakers I do believe. They looked exactly like these: http://www.oaktreevintage.com/web_photos/Stereo_Speakers/Grafyx_Model_VI_Stereo_Speakers_web.jpg I had never heard of Grafyx before, so I decided to just let them stay and not buy them (I have an old phone, so I couldn't search the interwebs for info). They where in great shape and only $30 for the pair. Did I make the…

I got a set of JBL Stage floorstanding speakers for $160 from Best Buy on clearance, normal price was $400 for the pair. They sound pretty good, especially for the price, definitely not as good as my B&Ws, but good none the less. They are going in our basement for now and may be bought off of me by my brother once he starts working for the basis of a decent, cheap stereo.

Hi everyone, It's been a while since I posted on here and I'm sure I've asked this question before in some incarnation of the site. But I'm looking for recommendations on a box(ported, sealed?) for an old Brahma Mk.1 I've got sitting around. THe smaller the better, as the spacee is a bit limited at my place. I would have loved to do a PR one but no budget to buy PRs. I've played with WinISD a bit and was looking at a 8 cube box tuned to 20hz but not sure if I want a box that big. I have a PE 500 watt plate amp coming in and am going to use it for half HT, half audio Thanks for you help in advance.

  23. Just recently acquired a pair of Klipsch Epic series CF-2's and a Klipsch SW-12. I am currently running the speakers off a yamaha rx 395. all circa 1995. The speakers sound amazing! They are able to get very loud and still play very clear. I love them. I cannot say the same for the sub. The sub was blown when I got it (got it all for free from pop). I am looking at putting in a new Dvc 4 ohm sub in it. I am not sure which I should go with. I was suggested a dcon or 187. The amp is 150 rms into 8 ohms The enclosure is a 12" bass reflex enclosure with 12" passive radiator. dimensions are 23.5" H x 15.625" W x 16.49" D. What sub would work best with this enclosure? Are the…

Ok so I have finaly decided to start my home audio setup and I wanted to designing the sub. My plans are to use a ssa DCON 12 in a downfiring box tuned to 25 hz with the port facing forward.I realy want to get a second opinion on this design. The dementions will be 17.5x17.5x17.5, simple enough,it will be constructed out of 3/4 mdf and the internal volume will be roughly 2.23 cuft after sub displacement. Il try to add pics of a cad modle I made of it asap, but as of now, I just want to get a second opinion. Will this work?, or should I go at this a different way
