  2. this is the final diagram of how im going to build it. we moved in a few days ago so i was here long enough to move the couch around, etc, and take measurements. the blue is going to be the desk. on top of the desk im going to build shelves. i think its gonna look bad ass...my problem is, i cant make it until i get the boxes designed. should i put both in that corner next to the couch, or put one there, and the other sub on the other end of the desk, by the closet door?

  4. ok heres the deal...im gonna order my 2 mj-18s whenever, its not on the top of my list right now, as i dont have a reciever yet, or crossover for the sub amp, etc...but i need the box built so when i get the subs, ill just drop them in. however, ive got some idea's, and id like your input on them. ive been told to do about 4.5 cubes per mj-18, tuned to 30hz. so im just gonna make a 9cu ft box tuned to 30hz (unless you guys suggest something different) and what i want to do, since space is limited, i want this to be the bottom of my desk. meaning the subs will be down firing (possibly the port too, if not, i dont care if the port is showing) and on top, what im gonna do is…

Currently im brainstorming for an HT system for my apartment at college. Right now im leaning towards going with 3 zaph bargain mtm's for fronts, mach 5 15, and the rest i need opinions on. First, id like a budget oriented reciever, but dont know what to look for really. Second, i was thinking i could just use a cheap bash/pe plate amp for the sub, but would like opinions? And lastly im not sure if i would need a pre-amp or any processing or anything else? I would just like the reciever to play music off an ipod, with my xbox 360 on games and dvds, as that would be the only uses.

Hey guys, I'm trying to make my first h/t setup. I really need two seperate setups, one to please the wife, and a second for me. I've been into car audio for years, but until recently I was only home for a few hours to sleep, so the car was more important than the house. I'll give you a run down of my expectations and limitations, as well as what I already have/will have/have planned. Expectations: I really want something that's going to sound good, get the full range very well, and not break the bank. I'll probably have to take my time to get everything I want right, but I need to know what to look for. Limitations: My wife. She wants a decent sounding system that'll be…

These are my Magnepan MGIIB's, pretty darn nice speakers I think. They are just huge, 6' tall, 21" wide, and only 2" thick though. The other speakers you see are my Fostex FE103E's that I built walnut horns for, they are my brother's now and I still have to do some fix work on them, sand, and finish the cabinets. The maggies are not in ideal locations, but its about the only place to put them while I'm here at home. On to the pictures! The gear running it currently Yea, they are tall. (I'm around 5'10") We might have a book or two in the house

  11. I'm eyeing this amp for sub duty and I have seen a few people mention that it puts out closer to 1500 watts rather than the rated 2400 watts when bridged into 4 ohms. I've posted on home audio forums and searched the hell out of it, but can't find any real world data on this amp. As much as I would love to get a Crown CE4000, the EP2500 is very tempting because of the price. From what I have seen everyone seems very happy with them as well. Any thoughts?

Finally got around to getting a receiver. Pioneer VSX-816. It's cheap(er) and does everything I'll need....full preamp outputs and good internal power. Now I need some speakers for HT duty. Been eyeing the Dayton 8. The things that have my interest on them are that the Dayton 8 is supposed to have good midbass and LFE, and sound pretty decent aswell.........and ofcourse the price as it would be around $200 total to build. Likewise, going this route would allow me to use already designed plans and speakers from the same model line for the surround and center channels such as the Dayton budget 2-way or Dayton II for the surround channels and the Dayton III for the ce…

Hey guys, hope you can help with some info, I'm building a sub for my home theater, using the RL-p15 and a QSC RMX1450, the amp is rated at 1400 watts at 2 ohms bridged. What would be my best option for hook-up to the amp, Dual 2 or 4ohm? Dual 2 ohm- one coil each side, or dual 4ohm to 2ohm bridged? Also this will be a ported enclosure, I can't do the 10 cu ft as stated as optimal, whats a good compromise betwen optimal and minimum sq ft for this set-up? thanks in advance!

  14. Started by Audio Junkies,

I've been eyeing a few different tube preamp kits and just wanted to see what you guys think is the best for the money. The Bottlehead Foreplay III has some great reviews, but it is $400. I'd prefer something less expensive and I don't need anything too crazy. Dual RCA outs are a plus and I would love to get my hands on an original Foreplay, but haven't had any luck finding one. I've been reading on DIYAudio.com, but everything is a bit scattered over there. Building from scratch is an option, but tube preamps are a bit new to me and it is tough deciphering "good" plans from the bad ones. Any suggestions are welcome and thanks ahead of time.

  15. Got all of the pics up from HES this past weekend. Some absolutely insane setups there. The biggest surprise of the show in my eyes were the Silverline Minuets that cost $600 per pair. If I didn't have my Maggies at home I would have bought a pair on the spot. I'm usually not a big fan of bookshelf speakers, but the Minuets were just stunning in every way. Tons of over the top and uber expensive eye candy as well. Finally got to hear the Cabasse La Sphere's in person as well. Nothing like dropping $150,000 on speakers... Oh and Jim, more tube amps than I have ever seen in my life. The Wilson room was pitch black except for the tubes glowing, it was absolutely beautiful…

  16. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Yqrw4yBuiBZ/c...mp;I=580HTS700B I'm pretty new to the HT scene and I was wondering how do u guys think that setup would do me to start off? I was looking for something nice to go with my Samsung 32" HDTV and PS3 to play my blu-ray movies on and video games. P.S. i'm looking for a good 5.1 setup. with a good reciever, 80 watts to the 5 speakers and like 1 sub that can handle 200 watts and sounds clear and deep. i'm up for getting one of those powered subwoofers if i find a good option that doesn't have all the speakers and reciver bundled. I've got around a $600 budget.

Just got me a M-5 MJ-18 4 ohm, and was looking for a new or used amp to put to it and was wondering what kind, plat or rack mount. I like the rack more for the fact that im not committed to just the sub and can use it on my speakers instead if i wish. Just trying to get some ideas, brands and prices are a plus. Thanks, Aron G. turtles1118

Anyone know of a decent home receiver or integrated amp that doesn't mind 4 ohm speakers? I had a Carver CM-1090 but my sister somehow got it. Still trying to figure that one out. She got my CD changer, TV, VCR and speakers, too. Not looking to spend too much and don't mind used.

  22. Someone posted up some macro pics of these absolutely beautiful drivers a while back. I think it might have been NDMStang, but I'm not sure. I think they were posted on this forum so that is why I am posting this here. It was a smaller (6"?) driver with a carbon fiber cone and chrome phase plug. I remember reading something about them being produced, but I never saw anythng about them again. Anyone know what I am talking about or have I had too many drinks on Cinco de Mayo?

I'm stoked, finally getting an Adcom GFA-555 II for my Maggies. I've heard them with 100 watts per side and they sounded good, but 300 watts per side is going to be badass. I can't wait! Thanks to Jim for the recommendation a while back on my Magnepan thread. I ditched the idea of using a receiver to power the Maggies and decided to ante up for some real power. The seller had a pair of them so that's why there are two in the picture.

hey guys... just to let you know i recently took a leap to build an EBS, an 8.8 ft3 sub!, using the mj18 and a rythmik amp plate and it is awesome! i am still playing with it and making a few adjustments to make it sound tighter. the box is large as you can imagine, 42 x 17.5 x 27.25 external dimensions with a port slot of 2.25 x 16 x 29, tuning at 18hz. it sits behind my couch down firing, with my computer table on top. so far, it sounds great but i need to make more adjustment with adding and subtracting fiberglass. placement of my room has been a challenge since my room is so big with 20' ceiling, with a lead to a kitchen. it's a z shape room with no wall for bass…
