I am planning on finally stepping up the entertainment system in my room like i've planned for a while, this is going to be strictly for Gaming and Movies. Luckily for me, the foot print of the room isn't huge.. so a lot of big equipment won't be needed, I can get measurements of the room if necessary. Before I get ahead of myself with listing equipment, right now I need suggestions on the following: *Home Theater in a Box 7.1 or 5.1 surround system w/ a receiver to power them that's compatible with a gaming console such as an Xbox360 and PS3 (The budget is roughly 700.00) *Projector with a really high resolution. (The budget is roughly 1000.00) *Projection Screen 50"…

Here is a recent project I just finished. From what I've heard so far, the only thing I know of that sounds better is a Magnepan system which probably cost about 10 times as much as this did. We'll see once I can give it a major listen. I'm still a novice builder and I'm not really all that concerned with the finish at this point. Its just spray on lacquer that I got at Walmart. Its made of MDF. The internals were dead on what they were supposed to be. Its a pair of Dayton DC160-8 ohm 6.5" speakers and a Hi-Vi Tn28 tweeter being powered by a single channel on a Dayton APA 150. The second tower is yet to be started. The top of the box is warped somehow, although the intern…

First my goals. As soon as possible I need to test a subwoofer at home, my sub output on my receiver just took a dump but conveniently I have Front L/R outputs so I can still use it as a receiver and then use the offboard proc to control my sub. This will be temporary and then the processor will be used to control my front mains and subwoofer. I would like flexibility for the future as it will be a test bench to play with slopes, points and such previous to building any passives. Also for general trouble shooting and dicking around with drivers. I would like to be able to run a full 3 way mains stereo pair and subwoofers if possible....if I have to lose something it …

Anyone here run an active home theater setup? I'm looking at possibly running 4 100 watt bridgeable stereo amps (for mids and highs) and 1 200 watt bridgeable stereo amp (subwoofer) along side an active crossover (behringer or peavey 3way stereo-4 way mono design or something else..?) The end result will probably be a stack of amps hanging in the basement and an infinite baffle subwoofer using the floor as the baffle (I may go ceiling, not sure what will sound better)... I'm not real sure on speakers, I'll be building everything. I'm thinking of making a large "sound bar" center channel with 8 3" woofers and 2 1 1/8" tweeters... I've got some towers from my last passiv…

  7. I'm eyeing this amp for sub duty and I have seen a few people mention that it puts out closer to 1500 watts rather than the rated 2400 watts when bridged into 4 ohms. I've posted on home audio forums and searched the hell out of it, but can't find any real world data on this amp. As much as I would love to get a Crown CE4000, the EP2500 is very tempting because of the price. From what I have seen everyone seems very happy with them as well. Any thoughts?

I was originally talking to Scott about a Q 18 in my h/t setup, but I have a chance to get a used SSD 15 instead.. I was planning on asking for the copper coils with the recone, just waiting to hear back in the Fi section. I was goin to use one of the following plate amps with it, so around 500rms at 4 ohms. Bash 500 http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=300-752 Dayton 500 http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=300-806 At the moment I'm leaning more towards the Dayton, but I wasn't sure if it was worth the price difference. I'm open to any other amp suggestions too. I asked about the box in the Fi section, but maybe someone can let me know if …

School is starting and I am looking to add a Sub to my BIB's. For amp duty I'm probably going with a Dayton plate amp (180 @ 8ohm and 240 @ 4ohm) Sub duty is another question... I have 2 options for the sub box. Option 1 - Small sealed under the corner table. I would guesstimate ~1.5 cubes net Option 2 - Shallow wide ported enclosure. Can pull out the couch little bit and create quite a bit of space behind it because of the way the wall and couch is designed. Don't have any good measurements but I think 4 cubes would not be a problem, and box can be as wide as a couch. I'm really leaning toward option 1 at the moment. I don't watch many movies so commanding low low end i…

  10. Need some advice\input, Looking to build an outdoor\patio subwoofer enclosure and find a suitable subwoofer to put in it. I am completely new to outdoor audio, my initial thoughts were a marine subwoofer and a birch box doused in resin and truck bedliner? Again, TOTALLY new to all of this so i may be way off. Whatever the sub and enclosure material, they will both need to stand up to the very muggy, hot central indiana summer weather. Sealed or possibly PR enclosure, Will be powered by a dayton 150 watt amp. Any and all input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Looking for some advice on a budget Home Theatre Receiver. I currently have a soundbar and sub and its not bad but would like something better, Main goal is probably for music but will also be watching movies etc but would rather it sound great on music then be amazing on Movies. Usually I would have done more research but Christmas is coming up so I need ideas for the Wife and family. Budget is max of around $400 Canadian for a decent receiver and ill pick up some used speakers and then later I will build a couple towers and a sub with separate components. Is a receiver with 70rms enough for a decent set of towers or is home audio like car audio…

  12. I have a pair of Cerwin-Vega RE-30s in great condition. Today, I had the idea of playing the "In the Air Tonight" bass test version on them for the hell of it. Throughout the song, I heard this somewhat loud vibrate/hissing (hard to describe) coming from each cabinet. I figured it was just air coming from the port, but after further inspection, it seems that it is actually air escaping from around the fuse "box." I have never heard this before, probably because I have never played anything very bass heavy with soft-ish mids and highs. I thought that cabinets and boxes are suppose to be pretty air tight, or at least not let this much air out. My question is, why is this ha…

Well my goal is to complete a 2.1 channel system for home theater/audio. I currently just finished my build for my Fi Q18. I would post pics if I knew how to do it. But past the point. My next goal is to get rid of my Sony A/V receiver and replace it with quality audio components. And I think I have it down, but I feel like I'm missing something. I need an experts overview. I want an Equalizer, and I guess the ones I have been looking at have a built in crossover in them. How convenient this is the Equalizer/Crossover that I've been looking at http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.c...FTOKEN=50274444 Then I wanted to use one of these amps (haven't decided yet, I will …

Just got me a M-5 MJ-18 4 ohm, and was looking for a new or used amp to put to it and was wondering what kind, plat or rack mount. I like the rack more for the fact that im not committed to just the sub and can use it on my speakers instead if i wish. Just trying to get some ideas, brands and prices are a plus. Thanks, Aron G. turtles1118

I am looking for a 2 channel amp in the no more than $300 range. I dont know where to turn. I originally was going to get an A/V receiver, but I dont need the video part of the receiver. The back of the TV will do just fine. Better quality anyways, and I don't need the radio. Anyways. I am going to be powering 2 KEF Q's coaxial 15-100 watt speakers at 6 ohms. And are pre-amps basically to be the equalizer? And also. If I get an amp, do I need a pre-amp? And if I need one, where should I start looking?

  18. I'm in the process of building a home theater sub using one of the Mach 5 Audio MJ-18s, I'm going with the recommended 8.8 cubic foot enclosure and was using Win ISD to plot the slot port. I have 2 questions, 1.) What type of vent should I use with this? Should I go with the slot vent or use the conventional round vents? 2.) How much power should I feed this sub? Does anyone have a recommendation for an amplifier for this sub? I don't care if it's conventional or a plate amp. Thanks again everyone.

  20. I will be using 4 -8 aura transducers (50 watts rating each) in my sectional couch. I think I will start out with 4 though because from what people's reviews say, 4 should be good for my sectional. My sectional is like this. One about 7ft 3 cushion couch, one about 5ft 2 cushion couch, and one about 5ft chaise. I need an amp to power 4 or more but I want to stay pretty cheap but still have reliability. Well here are three I have found to work for my situation. What do you guys think? Nady Audio Stereo Power Amplifier XA-900 - $150 shipped. rated for 900 watts bridged at 4 ohms but I really think its like 400 watts bridged at 4 ohms. So I can power 4 of the transducers wit…

I currently have a SONY STR-DG820 A/V receiver (got it for free) and the subwoofer output is a single RCA. Is it not possible to use a Crown XTi 1000? (I have never seen connectors like the back of the Crown before) I originally was going to power a Fi Q18 with a Dayton HPSA1000-R 1000W Rackmount Subwoofer Amplifier. But then as far as the reviews go that amp is highly overrated. I don't have a serious problem with that but I would like to get a quality subwoofer amplifier because I don't plan on having the SONY receiver forever. Thanks.

Looking to upgrade my living room experience and came across these. From the reviews I have read, they appear to be pretty nice. The biggest reason I am looking at these is the low profile wall mount would be pleasing aesthetically and space is very important to the wife, but I do not want that to be the only factor. The wife has asked me to go smaller for once in my life and I WILL NOT win that battle unfortunately as this is our family room. Bookshelf speakers on stands is not an option with the kids. I am looking at using these for a 5.1 as that is all the room layout will allow. Front left and right http://axiomaudio.com/m22-onwall-speakers.html $488.00 USD/pair Cen…
