Hi everyone, It's been a while since I posted on here and I'm sure I've asked this question before in some incarnation of the site. But I'm looking for recommendations on a box(ported, sealed?) for an old Brahma Mk.1 I've got sitting around. THe smaller the better, as the spacee is a bit limited at my place. I would have loved to do a PR one but no budget to buy PRs. I've played with WinISD a bit and was looking at a 8 cube box tuned to 20hz but not sure if I want a box that big. I have a PE 500 watt plate amp coming in and am going to use it for half HT, half audio Thanks for you help in advance.

Yeah. Yesterday, I was slamming, and playing some tones. Today, most of the fluorescent lights in the next room don't turn on. That room is separated by two double walls though. Coincidence? The bulbs aren't broken, but they don't ignite, like the starter is busted. Just wondering if others have had similar problems in their HT.

I am looking to get a better subwoofer for my room. I have a Insignia 600 watt Receiver, and front and surround speakers. The fronts and others are pretty cheap, but they are actually really clear and have taken quite the abuse. I also have a Yamaha 10" YST-SW216 100 watt sub and I'm not pleased with the performance of it. It is alright, but tends to bottom-out quite a bit when listening to demanding songs. My room is 13x13. What I am looking to do is: get a amplifier like this Pyle one for the Sub or Subs ONLY by using the RCA outputs on the back of it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=270329650426 I was also thinking about 2 Kicker COMP C10's, or one Dia…

I decided to make a present for the old man and I know he loves small bookshelf speakers that really rock. He listens to pretty much only classic rock. I was on parts express and found a nice set of 2 way boxes for cheap. I'd like to use those as the reviews on them look pretty decent. It gave recommendations for the driver and tweeter to use and I'll be getting those as well. Only thing I wasn't sure of was crossovers etc. What else do I need to buy to put this all together? Here are the links to what I'm getting. Bookshelf boxes https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-br-1cab-br-1-6-1-2-2-way-speaker-cabinet-pair--300-645 Drivers https://www.part…

I have a pair of brand new cerwin vega vs-150 woofers from the mid 90's. They are in mint shape. I need to build an enclosure for them but not sure what would work best. I found the original specs of the enclosure and calculated it to 5.1 cuft gross. They use a dual port design but obviously no idea of tuning. What would be a range I need to work with for port tuning and port area? I can estimate displacement but that's about all I have to go on. Not too familiar with building anything for an actual woofer. Thanks! Here is a pic for reference

I am building a new house and decided to give IB a try. . . Just ordered (8) Fi IB3 18" subs for it. Plan is to run 4 subs from ceiling to floor on each side of the projector screen. Pictures will come. The front wall of the theater room is 2x6 studs. Will start building it up with MDF next week Brian

wanting to buy from parts-express, and i need knowledge on how to choose a tweeter and a midbass even a crossover. i only want to choose from the buyout section, looking at 15$ a woofer 10$ a tweeter and depending on the price i could built one or buy a premade one. i realize the xover might not be on thr buyout section. doing a 5.1 system later i will choose a sub and plate amp? then do a small build . work at best by so will probably get a nice reciever, looking at denon.

so im beginning to start the process of adding a sub to my ht setup. so far i have a Arcam alpha 5 plus CD player, amp, and tuner..first problem i have is hooking the tv up to the reciever. ive tried going from TV out to Video on the reciever. ive tried from the VCR ( cable runs through the VCR) and tried through the DVD player...idk why but everytime i connect to the reciever the speakers start making a quiet buzzing sound. not noticeable during music but when between tracks its clearly heard and its annoying. how do i make it stop? and where would i connect an amp for a sub?

Just kinda throwing this out there...but for christmas my family is doing a secrete santa deal... with the rules being for the person you pick, you buy them one or multiple gifts that add up to one hundred dollars. I got my older brother this year... and one of the things on his list was a home stereo amplifer for surround sound. Car audio is more my thing, but home stereo stuff... I have nooo clue. Is there anything somewhat decent that I could get him for like $100 or less? If not, he has plenty of other things on his list. Thanks to all who can help me, and an early merry christmas to all!!

Hi Everyone. It has been a while since I've posted here... You may (or may not) remember my build log (start on page 5ish) The old Mercedes has reached a point where I need to sell it. It's sad after all of the work I've done, but it's getting too expensive to maintain. I spent a lot of money on the audio gear in that car, and I'm sure I won't get anything near its value when I sell it. So my current plan is to remove the audio gear and replace it with inexpensive stuff. I don't have a car to transplant the gear into, so I was thinking that maybe I could make a nice little stereo for my woodshop using my 3 way front speakers, my sub in a new sealed enclosure, and my …

Without sounding like a complete douche and "Oh, I have so much audio equipment ..." I think everyone knows there's a lot of good pieces out there on the used market. I've got JL w7's and my share of 4-channel amplifiers. My question is about the w7, but any car audio equipment for that matter ... I know next to nothing about home audio, other than I like it and I'm sure I'll go down this route as I get older (mature / family). In this situation, is it worth holding onto these pieces and trying to make something of it? Or just go on as I would and purchase proper home audio pieces when the time comes? The only reason I ask is it would be silly to spend $500 on a 300w h…

My little sister is wanting a cheap little set up. Nothing fancy just something cheap and sounds halfway decent at normal listening levels. Her room is pretty small so Imaging is not a concern. She would be happy with something off the shelf from Walmart but she wants me to help build something that is hers. I'll more than likely buy a small 4 channel amp from parts express and build the crossovers and add a 3.5mm plug so she can hook her Iphone to it. I was looking at these Dayton's they are pretty cheap about 20 bucks a piece: DC28F-8 and DC160-8. My question is would y'all recommend anything else that's around the same price range. My knowledge of what's avail…

Here's the situation. I recently purchased a TV and surround sound system for my college apartment. I'm trying to get audio from my TV to the surround sound receiver via RCA. The problem is that the only audio output that my TV has is a coaxial output. The Receiver only has RCA inputs. Is there some sort of cable or converter type deal that can run a Coax cable and split into an RCA on the other end to put into the receiver?

This is my current setup here in my house in Manhattan (I'm a junior in EE at K-state). Speakers: Magnepan MGIIB Amplification: QSC CX 902 for the sub, QSC Powerlight 1.0HV for the Maggies, and an ART SLA-1 just there... Preamp: Behringer T1953 w/ upgraded tubes Crossover/EQ: Behringer DCX 2496 DVD/CD/SACD player: Oppo 981-HD TV: Currently cheapo 27" CRT, will have a ~37" LCD HDTV before the end of the month In the mail are two Mach 5 Audio MAW 15's for the substage, haven't entirely decided on the configuration that they will be in yet. Overall I don't think its too shabby for a college house, don't mind the mess currently I just had to re-arrange everything toni…

I have my 360, dvd, and tv hooked up to my surround sound and am trying to have the cpu hooked up also. It has a digital audio output but the tv or dvd doesn't have a digital audio input, and my digital audio cable doesn't work with the regular audio inputs. I tried using regular RCAs to the tv and dvd but that didn't work.. So how do I hook up the computer to go to the surround sound? Here's a link for specs on the comp ___\/___ http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/se...AIN#detailspecs Thanks

This build is going to be for my buddies 2.1 computer set up. The over all goal is to put together something that will sound decent, but for as cheap as possible. Right now we are thinking about picking up a used Onkyo receiver to do all the signal processing, and run the 2 satellites off of that. Also need suggestions for a sub amp to pair with the sub (Sundown SD-1 v2 10"). If anyone thinks this is a bad idea, or has a better way of going about it, let me know. Please! I haven't talked to him in a few weeks, but I think his budget is $400 for everything. $50 is already spent on the SD-1.

I have my stereo reciever and sub amp across the room from where I sit when I listen, so I use the source to control volume. However, since I never use the volume knob, the system is set to max listening volume all the time and when I unplug the aux cable I get like, obscene popping. My woofer trys to leave the box and the mids punch me in the face. How can I reduce this effect so I get a quiet connect/disconnect? I'm okay with buying a part if it's not too expensive but I have no idea what to try, and my reciever is older than me, meaning, no remote to mute it when the cord is moved. I myself know the switches and don't mind shutting it down before unplugging, but I le…

Well, ive been crusing around her for a while and i think i discovered a enclosure id LOVE to build. Im debating on building a TL enclosure for either one 10" or a single 8". to top it off i kinda want to do it as cheap as i can(i know i know, audio, cheap, HAH.). I think i found my amp and sub, but i need the opinions of seasoned builders. Ive only played with car audio before so this home theater stuff is newer to me, i have a sub-par setup going, but nothing fancy. But my substage is lacking, so i need something with a little more "oomph". Amp choice is a Audiofile VRS 1205 from www.alexjr.com (http://www.apexjr.com/Audiofile.htm) and the sub i have yet to really decid…

OKay, I want to corner load my IXL18 in the basement; vent and driver on the same plane firing into the corner. Is there a way to measure the optimum corner to load in? I'm worried about reflections and cancellation.
