I've been looking for a new tv to go into my bedroom. The room itself is roughly 12x12 or 12x13, can't remember off the top of my head, I havent actually had time to measure it yet, though. Primary uses will be for gaming (Xbox 360), general tv (ATT Uverse), and a few movies from my laptop and use as a monitor (HDMI). My budget would be around 5-800, depending of course, on the TV itself. I was looking for a 32"-40". Really not sure if I have the room for a plasma, though. I had been looking at the LG LE5300 32" and the Panasonic L37D2, which were what looked best to me in-store. Edit: I forgot to add that I would eventually like to do a 2.1 system a little down the r…

I'm planning to build a budget setup to listen to music while I'm at work. I operate a CNC router in a wood mill which is extremely noisy, and requires ear plugs to operate all day. I need something loud enough to hear from ~5ft away under these conditions. Obviously fidelity is out of the question, so high dollar equipment isn't necessary. Just need to hear my music. I plan on using my Lepai 2020+ amplifier powering 2 Pyle 6" midrange speakers and a pair of Pyle PSN1165 tweeters. My question: If i wire a mid and tweeter to each channel, will I need a crossover of some sort, or for this setup will a plug and play be fine? The only controls this amp has is volume, and a su…

Hi all, I have been away from SSA for a while but have come back with a new idea. Again, this is just an idea or starting point to build off of and I am looking to the more knowledgeable figures on this site to guide me some. I currently have a 16' by 16' room with a cheap logitech surround sound audio set up and am looking to combine two ideas I have. I have some great sounding speaker cabinets just sitting and collection dust and want to make my own home audio setup along with a great sub system. I currently have two recliners and want a couch to replace them so I thought I would build my own sectional couch made just how i want it and for the space available. Again…

Wasn't sure where to post this, so I'm going to put it here. Upgraded from a pair of Sennheiser HD595. These things sound amazing and my amp for them hasn't even come in yet.

Consists of a 12" Dayton Titanic mk III and a Dayton HPSA500 for power. Box will be around 3.5 cubes tuned to 25 Hz with 3 4" aero ports. Should sound pretty good hopefully. I will try to get some pics of the build but in the mean time, thoughts/input?

Im on a limited budget and limited on space. I'm looking for a decent HT set up to match with my plasma TV. I dont need anything extravagant, but I would like to have something that sounds good. Ive been on crutchfield, newegg, partstexpress and bestbuy and cant seem to find anything that is worth even the high prices they want for them. What Im looking for... 5.1 surround system with receiver to power them. (already have a bluray player so I dont need a combo) small package I am working on limited space so the system needs to fit on a shelf or be hung from the walls. I do have neighbors in the appartment next and above me so I have no need for something that can blast ou…

I am looking to get a rack mount amp to use in my room to power 2 AQ 15's. I am looking at the Behringer ep2500 and the GTD Audio GD-750. I can get both for the same price. I know that the Behringer is more widely used and known for a good 2400 RMS but the GTD is 2 x 2250 @ 2 ohms, so it is almost double power and the same price. I want to know if anyone has experience with the GTD or if anyone has heard anything about the GTD amp. Depending on how the GTD performs will help me decide what amp to use.

Hey guys, I'm pretty experienced with car audio so I decided I'd give home audio a try. I am VERY disappointed with the output of the subwoofer/enclosure. I think its due to poor driver selection and poor box design. However, I would like to salvage my build. I just want to know if I am wasting my time or if I should start allover again. I would really like to modify my current box if possible. Goals: The main use is for music, possibly some video gaming, and possibly some movies. Background: To begin, I had a pair of SA-8's in my car then when the v2's came out I decided that I would get a pair of v2's for my car and put the old pair in my house. This was mainly an…

OK guys, need osme help. I plan on eventually getting a pretty kick a$$ set up for the house. To help get me started, my dad graciously gave me a Toshiba 5 channel (plus subwoofer, so 6) home system...minus receiver. The receiver crapped out. I'd like to get a receiver for these speakers that will also be fine for when the time comes to get a nice pair of Klipsch or B&W's. This system looks identical to this: Except the center channel is rectangular instead of more square like the satelite speakers. Here the specs for the speakers: Satellite Speaker Center Speaker Passive Subwoofer Type: 2 Way 2 Speaker 2 Way 2 Speaker …

I am updating all the drivers in my towers, my crossovers died so I went with what I could afford, some parts express 800hz/5000hz three way crossovers. I have a basic active crossover for the towers so they'll only need to reach down to 60-80hz at most, the BTL reaches high enough to meet them. Just replaced the dead five inch mids with sealed back GRS mids which sound far better than the price tag suggested. With that in mind, i'm planning on replacing the flimsy plastic coned 10" midbass drivers, and am not sure what to get. I was eyeing up a pair of selenium tens, as I want it to sound clean and clear, but I also would like to be able to get loud. http://www.part…

I'm eyeing this amp for sub duty and I have seen a few people mention that it puts out closer to 1500 watts rather than the rated 2400 watts when bridged into 4 ohms. I've posted on home audio forums and searched the hell out of it, but can't find any real world data on this amp. As much as I would love to get a Crown CE4000, the EP2500 is very tempting because of the price. From what I have seen everyone seems very happy with them as well. Any thoughts?

I will be using 4 -8 aura transducers (50 watts rating each) in my sectional couch. I think I will start out with 4 though because from what people's reviews say, 4 should be good for my sectional. My sectional is like this. One about 7ft 3 cushion couch, one about 5ft 2 cushion couch, and one about 5ft chaise. I need an amp to power 4 or more but I want to stay pretty cheap but still have reliability. Well here are three I have found to work for my situation. What do you guys think? Nady Audio Stereo Power Amplifier XA-900 - $150 shipped. rated for 900 watts bridged at 4 ohms but I really think its like 400 watts bridged at 4 ohms. So I can power 4 of the transducers wit…

Hey, my friend recently inherited two 12" Sony Xplod subs for free, and we want to design a subwoofer for his dorm using these. He needs the line-level inputs on his amp so he can hook up via speaker wire (no LFE channel), and it needs to be fairly reasonably sized. I am thinking about this amp: Parts Express 70 watt plate amp Sound quality? obviously not key, but it would be nice to have smooth and fairly deep bass. I have lots of tools and saws, and some left over OSB to laminate to MDF if that works... I was thinking ported, but sealed may be easier to build. Here is the front view of what I was thinking in ghetto type: ----------------- -+++----------- ++++--…

Alright, so I have been without any real tunes for quite a while lately and I think it is really starting to kill me. So starting this weekend I'm going to get the music on my Ext HD's straightened out and start this build... Zaph Audio - Slimline Wall Mounted Speaker - Part 1 Zaph Audio - Slimline Wall Mounted Speaker - Part 2 To power it I will be using a reciever off an old "surround" setup that I have. Plans are to also add 1 (maybe 2) MLI-65's for sub duty probably up to 80-90Hz ish (Sorry Sean). First Questions.... Where do I order parts for the crossover? Want to order them and the speakers as soon as possible with hopes of it getting in by this weekend. I know th…

Alright so if I wanted to buy car speakers and subwoofers what would I need to make them work and sound good in my room? Im planning on getting some 6.5s components. And maybe 2 8" subwoofers. What would I need to make them work at home?

Just curious to see what you guys think of using a bandpass box for a subwoofer outside of car audio. After messing around with WinISD, i figured out a design for a 6th order bandpass that is almost flat from 30 to 75 Hz, which would be prefect for music use, and is significantly more efficient than a ported box with similar frequency response (at least for my woofer). Are there any downsides to using a 6th order bandpass enclosure, like reduced sound quality or anything like that? I don't know of anyone who has tried this, so any opinions would be appreciated and just let me know if knowing the box or woofer specs would help

made a thread a while back on this, i never got around to taking pics after i hung the tv. i gotta get back up the attic and shim up the left side of the tv, becuase the trusses arent perfectly level in the attic. either way, its really the only way i could have mounted it, and its a nice viewing position from my bed. had i used a normal wall mount and put it on the wall, it wouldnt be angled towards my bed any. anyways, heres the pics. the tv speakers are removable, and will be removed, once i get a 2.1 setup to replace it with. had to put it on SSA before the pic haha this is laying in my bed questions- should i buy a simple 2.1 setup, or should i make a DIY setup fro…

Here is a recent project I just finished. From what I've heard so far, the only thing I know of that sounds better is a Magnepan system which probably cost about 10 times as much as this did. We'll see once I can give it a major listen. I'm still a novice builder and I'm not really all that concerned with the finish at this point. Its just spray on lacquer that I got at Walmart. Its made of MDF. The internals were dead on what they were supposed to be. Its a pair of Dayton DC160-8 ohm 6.5" speakers and a Hi-Vi Tn28 tweeter being powered by a single channel on a Dayton APA 150. The second tower is yet to be started. The top of the box is warped somehow, although the intern…

Just got me a M-5 MJ-18 4 ohm, and was looking for a new or used amp to put to it and was wondering what kind, plat or rack mount. I like the rack more for the fact that im not committed to just the sub and can use it on my speakers instead if i wish. Just trying to get some ideas, brands and prices are a plus. Thanks, Aron G. turtles1118
