so i was bored today and went to guitar center to play with some eq's and some of the rack amps and tower speakers i could never afford. well i remembered i want to look at the behringer ep2500 to power what i want for subs in my ht. i talked with a pretty cool actually knowledgable guy. asked about the amp. said he didn't have any in stock and went and look at em online. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-Euro...544-i1145402.gc , so we talked alittle bit and he pulled them up on the computer to see if any other stores stocked them locally, there wasn't but he found this. if i was willing to wait a week behringer would mail one to the store for $199, $150 off no questi…

Hey guys. I'm trying to finish this before tomorrow and I'm stuck with part of the crossover schematic. I know his may be simple, but I think I'm thinking too much. I have the tweet part figured out. My problem is with the woofers. Question: Do I solder the 14.0mH, 8.0mH, and the 1.5mH leads together? Do the other leads on the inductors (14.0mH, 8.0mH, and the 1.5mH) get…

I'm planning to build a budget setup to listen to music while I'm at work. I operate a CNC router in a wood mill which is extremely noisy, and requires ear plugs to operate all day. I need something loud enough to hear from ~5ft away under these conditions. Obviously fidelity is out of the question, so high dollar equipment isn't necessary. Just need to hear my music. I plan on using my Lepai 2020+ amplifier powering 2 Pyle 6" midrange speakers and a pair of Pyle PSN1165 tweeters. My question: If i wire a mid and tweeter to each channel, will I need a crossover of some sort, or for this setup will a plug and play be fine? The only controls this amp has is volume, and a su…

I recently added more speakers to my home theater setup. To power the speakers I ordered a crown XLS1000 amplifier. I was dissapointed after hooking everything up that I was not getting the output I was expecting. At this point I noticed the signal indicators on the amp were barely lighting up even though they were getting all the signal that my reciever could put out. So some research revealed that most home audio recievers don't put out a high enough voltage for pro audio amplifiers. To resolve the problem I ordered an ART-II Pre Amplifier which in my mind would boost the signal to a higher voltage, therefore allowing me to set the gains properly on my amp and get the p…

Hello, my name is Chris and shortly I will be starting up a new business. Basically I will design and build custom loudspeakers enclosures, passives crossovers, and subwoofer cabinets. I can also aid in the design of subwoofer enclosures, if need be. I can offer a myriad of options when it comes to design, inside and out. I talked to Aaron (Denim) about introducing my services to the folks on forums. The insiration behind this business is basically the ability to pick and choose exactly what you want in a loudspeaker set. Everything will be hand built by me with care, and attention to detail. My website should be up within the next couple of days, and can be seen at www…

I am using Dayton Audio BR-1 kit Dayton Audio BR-1 kit and Dayton Audio DTA-100a amplifier. I will be using these as "computer" speakers. This is not what they are designed for but I am sure that I will be very happy with them. I feel that Dayton Audio is a value leader with all of it's products and is often overlooked. The kit comes with : Two Dayton Audio DC160-8 6-1/2" woofers Two Dayton Audio DC28F-8 1-1/8" silk dome tweeters Two crossover boards Two 47 µF non-polarized capacitors Two Dayton Audio 0.1 µF by-pass capacitors Two 8 ohm 10W resistors Two 1.8 mH 18 AWG air core inductors Four Dayton Audio 6.2 µF polypropylene capacitors …

I've been messing around lately with some 15" Drivers David Moore at PSI has been custom building for me to use for a few of the HT designs I have been implementing. I was using a lot of the Parts Express drivers for a while, the Ultimax and Reference series for custom installs, but the prices were going up and my wholesale discount kept seeming to get smaller and smaller. Anyway, David's drivers work well, sound good and measure decent in 3.5 ft3 boxes. Here are some pics of the last few, I have been getting the ones you can see coated with Line-X and the hidden ones just plain MDF. I have been using between 750 and 1000 watts per driver...

So I was at the local Goodwill, heading straight for the "Electronic section." I always check for speakers, hoping one day I will make an awesome discovery. Well, this day, I spotted a set of interesting speakers. The first thing that I noticed was that they were heavy as crap! They were Grafyx Model 6 speakers I do believe. They looked exactly like these: http://www.oaktreevintage.com/web_photos/Stereo_Speakers/Grafyx_Model_VI_Stereo_Speakers_web.jpg I had never heard of Grafyx before, so I decided to just let them stay and not buy them (I have an old phone, so I couldn't search the interwebs for info). They where in great shape and only $30 for the pair. Did I make the…

I've got plans to build something dirt cheap for my apartment. I don't know if the difference in 5.1 and 7.1 is necessary or not. I am 100% honest with this subject, I know jack dick about Home Audio. Our company does ultra high dollar installations and sells equipment so getting a receiver shouldn't be too much. I'm interested in how to go about building inexpensive driver setups. I think Arrays are pretty damn cool, is this an option?

OK guys, need osme help. I plan on eventually getting a pretty kick a$$ set up for the house. To help get me started, my dad graciously gave me a Toshiba 5 channel (plus subwoofer, so 6) home system...minus receiver. The receiver crapped out. I'd like to get a receiver for these speakers that will also be fine for when the time comes to get a nice pair of Klipsch or B&W's. This system looks identical to this: Except the center channel is rectangular instead of more square like the satelite speakers. Here the specs for the speakers: Satellite Speaker Center Speaker Passive Subwoofer Type: 2 Way 2 Speaker 2 Way 2 Speaker …

so i bought a big ass shed, something i have always wanted, half of it is my "home gym" and the other half is my work shop , my first though for music was to do a standard audio receiver , but after looking around on parts express im thiking hell why not do something small compact and different . goals, good full sound, stereo with a sub, bluetooth would be cool but not a must. i was looking at the new Lepai LP-2020TI but the Lepai LP-168HA 2.1 has a sub channel if i run the LP 168HA am i lookiing a running an inline passive cross over of sorts>?

i just purchased my new first home and i wanna build a killer 2 tower plus subwoofer set up. my main question is does any one make similiar diy kits like adire did before it went in the crapper. i loved how you could buy the speakers and x-overs and then have your choice of a ported, sealed, or tl box that they had designed and blueprinted for you. my mother has the old 281's or something named like that and we both love them. so does any other company offer what i'm talking about in a relatively cheap price. i'm more then likely looking for a 3-way set up with a great set of midbass' to keep up with a ported 18.... hopefully some one can answer this for me so i can get t…

I want to give my brother a unique gift for his birthday. I decided that I am going to make him a MP3 radio. It will not produce ear shattering audiophile output but it should sound good for what it is. The design of this radio will make it useful for near field listening such as a computer desk or small room book shelf. There will be four different audio input methods: MP3 decoder with memory card and USB drive reader Bluetooth input capability 3.5mm audio input jack input The unit will have three identical enclosures. The center enclosure for the electronics and two enclosures for the left and right speaker. I am using a Dayton audio 15x2 amplifier and Tang Band 3" f…

What's up homies? It's been a while since I've posted anything meaningful. Here is my latest audio venture. It's the Zephyr kit by the latest audio start-up, DIY Soundgroup. A little history/search words about this kit. It's fashioned around the Econowave style, although there is nothing econo about this kit. It was designed by Jeff Bagby. And that's about all I know. My goals: 1. To have a reference sound system so I know what to listen for when tuning my auto sound system. 2. Be able to achieve nutty ass rock concert levels. 3. Finally be effing cool. Here is my start, wood! Box sides coming together. The kit came with a pre-cut baffle. The design cal…

I've been eyeing a few different tube preamp kits and just wanted to see what you guys think is the best for the money. The Bottlehead Foreplay III has some great reviews, but it is $400. I'd prefer something less expensive and I don't need anything too crazy. Dual RCA outs are a plus and I would love to get my hands on an original Foreplay, but haven't had any luck finding one. I've been reading on DIYAudio.com, but everything is a bit scattered over there. Building from scratch is an option, but tube preamps are a bit new to me and it is tough deciphering "good" plans from the bad ones. Any suggestions are welcome and thanks ahead of time.

I know this is probably not under "Home Audio", but I'm taking my chances. Looking at TV's, I need an outside opinion. I can get a Samsung 61 inch or so, 1080p DLP TV for around $1500. What's the catch. I googled around for the Pro's and Con's of DLP TV's, but nothing gave me anything to hold on to. For instance one "Con" I saw was, "TV not small enough to hang on wall". <-- That means nothing to me. Anyways. I know nothing is too good to be true. I need some input. Thanks

Something happened when I tried to start the thread, whoops. Anyway, I recently got a elemental designs 11Kv.2 (10" sub) for my dorm stereo, and the sealed box really isn't working very well without cabin gain. First time designing a box, but I came up with a design using WinISD. It would be a 2.1 cu ft box tuned to about 28Hz with 27 sq in of port area (slot). the sub will be powered by a 325 watt BASH plate amp, in case that makes much of a difference. Does this sound right? any help would be great. T/S specs from eD are: Qts: .28 Qes: .31 Qms: 2.7 Fs: 24.80Hz Re: 7.0 Vas: 66L Mms: 116.0g Bl: 19.00T*m SPL: 87.1dB Sd: 350cm

I just picked up a Yamaha R-V503 for $6.99! I'm the processing of going through the thing to make sure everything works and was wondering if anyone had a 5.1 track I could download? I'm not really a movie fan so I don't own a single movie; nor have I ever illegally downloaded one. Doesn't need to be anything spectacular. I would just like to make sure "Dolby logic pro surround decoder" works. Thanks in advance! Oh! And I realize it's kind of a waste of time to make sure the 5.1 works if I don't watch movies and thus don't listen to anything recorded in 5.1, but I'm considering reselling this unit if I could get north of $50 for it.
