I've always want to run a sub in my house but can't figure out how to power it. I once used a cpu to power the amp.. but those are crazy expensive to get one big enough to do anything... so i was wondering.. Can you use something like these to power a sub in your house? http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/live-sound/live-power-amplifiers I thought I might have seen some people use these to power subs in there house and was wanting to try it out if it does work. Also, is there a way to use a bass guitar amp head to power them?.. I play bass for my church and I could just bring a bass cabinet's head home if that works?.. Because one time we had a party and my friends hooke…

I'm working on my home theater setup. I'm putting A 110" screen with an epson 8100 projector. I want to build a big sub setup. I'm framing a wall out 2' to hide an old fireplace. I'll have 30" on either side of the screen to work with. One side will have a cabinet with my component stack in it. The other will have the sub. So I'll have aprox. 24" deep, 30" wide, and 95" tall. So about 40 cu ft gross. Originally I was going to run a single 18" or a pair of 15's, and I may still. But now I'm thinking, why not go with a 21"? But I'm not finding many 21's. GoLs are to spend less than $800 total and be great for movies and HDTV. It will be 80% for tv and movies and 20% for mus…

So I was at the local Goodwill, heading straight for the "Electronic section." I always check for speakers, hoping one day I will make an awesome discovery. Well, this day, I spotted a set of interesting speakers. The first thing that I noticed was that they were heavy as crap! They were Grafyx Model 6 speakers I do believe. They looked exactly like these: http://www.oaktreevintage.com/web_photos/Stereo_Speakers/Grafyx_Model_VI_Stereo_Speakers_web.jpg I had never heard of Grafyx before, so I decided to just let them stay and not buy them (I have an old phone, so I couldn't search the interwebs for info). They where in great shape and only $30 for the pair. Did I make the…

So here's the deal, my roomates and I host get togethers at out apartment a lot and what we are really lacking is a a stereo in our downtairs kitchen/living room area and thats where we do most of out partying. In the coming month or so, we are going to construct a bar and I am planning on integrating the sound system into the bar. I want to keep as much space as possible underneath so I do not want to construct enclosures within the front of the bar, rather I'd like to have an open baffle type of alignment. The goals are to have it be somewhat efficient and party proof. By party proof I mean I want it to take abuse. I was thinking multiple 6.5" or 8" woofers on ea…

Ok so I have finaly decided to start my home audio setup and I wanted to designing the sub. My plans are to use a ssa DCON 12 in a downfiring box tuned to 25 hz with the port facing forward.I realy want to get a second opinion on this design. The dementions will be 17.5x17.5x17.5, simple enough,it will be constructed out of 3/4 mdf and the internal volume will be roughly 2.23 cuft after sub displacement. Il try to add pics of a cad modle I made of it asap, but as of now, I just want to get a second opinion. Will this work?, or should I go at this a different way

So i have the Tss-450 home theater set up and the subwoofer has lost its performance. I'm thinking about switching a new sub into it. I've always been into car audio so i've done plenty of custom set ups there. Would it sound very good if i put another sub in its place in the box?

I am looking to get a better subwoofer for my room. I have a Insignia 600 watt Receiver, and front and surround speakers. The fronts and others are pretty cheap, but they are actually really clear and have taken quite the abuse. I also have a Yamaha 10" YST-SW216 100 watt sub and I'm not pleased with the performance of it. It is alright, but tends to bottom-out quite a bit when listening to demanding songs. My room is 13x13. What I am looking to do is: get a amplifier like this Pyle one for the Sub or Subs ONLY by using the RCA outputs on the back of it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=270329650426 I was also thinking about 2 Kicker COMP C10's, or one Dia…

Just recently acquired a pair of Klipsch Epic series CF-2's and a Klipsch SW-12. I am currently running the speakers off a yamaha rx 395. all circa 1995. The speakers sound amazing! They are able to get very loud and still play very clear. I love them. I cannot say the same for the sub. The sub was blown when I got it (got it all for free from pop). I am looking at putting in a new Dvc 4 ohm sub in it. I am not sure which I should go with. I was suggested a dcon or 187. The amp is 150 rms into 8 ohms The enclosure is a 12" bass reflex enclosure with 12" passive radiator. dimensions are 23.5" H x 15.625" W x 16.49" D. What sub would work best with this enclosure? Are the…

So my fraternity wants me to build a sound system for our basement when we have parties. The basement can easily fit over 300 people. It is 4 appartment's basements that connect into one (I will post pictures when I get back from spring break). What they told me they want is "We want this to be as loud as humanly possible and incredibly bassy." I am not a pro audio kind of guy and do not know much about it. Is there anywhere I can find beginner information on how to have everything set up? This is going to be set up more like a club and I do not know where to find information on that. Anything will be helpful. Thanks, Chris

(Crosspost from the Daber Audio forum) Hey guys, I thought I’d drop a quick line and show you a project I was working on. This is my interpretation of a project I had found online and had found interesting. This is a pretty basic build, nothing too special. All of these pictures are from inside of my house since I needed my amp to make final crossver adjustments if needed. I sold my Thiel CS 2.2's to fund this build. The drivers are: 8” Hi-Vi M8N magnesium/aluminum driver woofer, 3” Dayton dome mid, and Hi-Vi RT-1C planar tweeter. http://www.daberaudio.com/projectimages/back%20of%20drivers.jpg The crossovers are not yet soldered, but you can see the individual boa…

First off let me start by saying i have no idea about anything when it comes to home audio.. i do know a lot about car audio though.. i don't know it that matters. The room is 10ft 1in x 10ft 6in x 10ft (ceiling) - its a entertainment room. My goal is to have something that sounds good when i Call Of Duty, watch Transformers and listen to Gucci Man. My budget is around 500 dollars. What i have in my head is some speakers in the corners of the ceiling, a sub woofer and speakers to put on stands and shit. - i dont know if thats an over-kill for what im trying to do or not.. the room is pretty small so i dont think it would take much.. Thanks for your time and if you need mo…

Ok so so I just got my own house, move in tomarrow, but I need a killer HT. I have a Kenwood reciever, 2 mtx cabinets, maybe some other cabinets, and my 10" ssd that I just bought back yesterday. What I need to know is how can I porew the sub? What amp or power supply should I buy for it? I was thinking about building a Tline box for the sub. Will be for movies and PS3, but also lots and lots of music. I want a Nice clear sq setup, not so "bassy", but enough bass to hear and tell that it is there. I don't need a lot of power maybe 200-300 watts. This is first "real" HT project so I'm just lookin for some help. Thanks, Mikey

Hello, As the title says, I want some new speakers for my home audio system. I have a Marantz amp, with tuner included, it is rated at 2 x 70 w rms, I think so ! I have a set of Bose Acoustimass speakers, that can handle 2 x 100 w. I like how they sound, but I need to give them to my father because they're small and sound good. I want something good, of course, but not as expensive as the Bose. Just a bass box and 2 speakers. I listen to rap, reggae,...so...I need bass, I can just buy the sub and make the box. So, can you tell me what would you choose, and where to buy online, please?
