I get asked a lot about recommendations for home audio speakers, and it's hard to argue with the value of DIY speakers. But just Googling for random plans can be a little intimidating sometimes if someone doesn't quite know what they're looking for. Figured we could start a little list of pre-tested homebuilt projects for people to look through, to get ideas for their own stuff. Feel free to add any that you come across. http://www.zaphaudio.com/ - John Krutke's excellent site, concentration on smallish 'bookshelf' monitors and component comparisons http://www.frugel-horn.com - full range, single driver, crossoverless designs http://www.speakerbuilder.net/ - a good mix of…

So since my first box I have wanted to do an enclosure with no space restrictions. A build that focuses on cone area and low tuning. Subs are HDS200's (ordered one already to see if I like them, I will post pictures here when it gets here) Soundqubed is very vague with there enclosure recommendations and i'm looking for a more specialized design My first dilemma is with the box and is if I should go with a 2x2 pattern such as this: Or a 4x1 pattern such as this: (ported though) My only real limits are what can fit through my doorframe's in my house. I was playing with the RE Box Calculator and I can make both styles fit. I want bet…

I know these pics dont/wont show up here, I have to tweak them at home theater spot, but they work everywhere else so i will post a link to my AVS thread if u want to see the pics http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1337645 After doing REW sweeps of before the port and after, I realized I was tuned much lower than I thought. Thinking 990 cubic feet realizing 1003 cubic feet (closet door closed, opened it's more like 1040 cubic feet and 4Hz tuning) and from 9Hz to 5Hz, I can't have a title that I can't correct. I have never heard of anyone tuning to 5Hz before, or venting a 1000 plus cubic foot room. So I will leave the build log, post some final pics and REW s…

Ok so I have finaly decided to start my home audio setup and I wanted to designing the sub. My plans are to use a ssa DCON 12 in a downfiring box tuned to 25 hz with the port facing forward.I realy want to get a second opinion on this design. The dementions will be 17.5x17.5x17.5, simple enough,it will be constructed out of 3/4 mdf and the internal volume will be roughly 2.23 cuft after sub displacement. Il try to add pics of a cad modle I made of it asap, but as of now, I just want to get a second opinion. Will this work?, or should I go at this a different way

I've made it pretty much to layout and wiring. It should be a good sounding EL-34 PP amplifier provided I don't destroy it......

i'm looking for a pretty sturdy 2 channel amp for my home theater system and came across this and was wondering what you thought about it? i don't know much of anything when it comes to home stereo amplifiers. i want something that is going to push around 200-300rms at 8ohms if you have any suggestions i would definitely be open to them. this is one that i found and it seems to have everything i need, but i don't know the brand and how good this would actually be. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Adcom-GFA-555se-Stereo-Amplifier-/130717532260?pt=US_Home_Audio_Amplifiers_Preamps&hash=item1e6f5f4064

Hey all, I have plenty of experience in the auto world but when it comes to home audio I am a newb. We have two existing Memphis 15's and are currently running them off of one channel of our sub amp. We use to have a servo driven unit on the other channel but it repetedly fails so I have been tasked to add another set up. We are grabbing 2 18" SSD's and I am making two seperate new enclosures, one for the 15's and one for the 18's. My question comes in how many cubes should I be looking at? It seems everyone goes really large but I dont wanna burn up the sub by not having enough resistance on the movement of the cone, so I was thinking 8 net for the 15's and around 12 net…

Aaron approached me about building a budget 2.1 setup for watching movies on his laptop. We came to the agreement to build two small towers which will have four 3" full range speakers per side arranged in a line array. Each tower will be roughly.5 cubic feet sealed after displacements. A SoundSplinter Orphan 8 will be used for subwoofer duty. The woofer enclosure is .65 cubic feet after displacements, which is rather large for the orphan but very low power is being used. Amplifier to be used: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-775 Aurasound speakers: http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-3-fullrange/aurasound-ns3-193-8a1-3-black…

Figured I would post up some pics of the 2.1 PC stereo I built for my mom about a month ago. Overall they perform real well. I doubt that anything in their price range could come even close to them. The pine baffles and pieces on the subwoofer all match the knotty pine trim that my brother and I milled for my parent's addition.

I figured it would be fun to make a little HT Setup for the dorm room. I have a MAW-10 to use (can run at 8 or 2 ohms) and thought about getting some MLI-65 and a tweeter to match for up front. Not looking for anything spectacular just something really to play with. I'm more concerned about with amplifiers and reciever to use as I don't know much about them. Also I guess I would prefer to run active as I don't want to make my own crossover and would like experience with active anyways.

I have two 15" subwoofers in my music setup at home in a dual fifteen sealed box, is it worth getting a pair of boxes to run one per side? Further more, if so, should I run them in stereo?

(Crosspost from the Daber Audio forum) Hey guys, I thought I’d drop a quick line and show you a project I was working on. This is my interpretation of a project I had found online and had found interesting. This is a pretty basic build, nothing too special. All of these pictures are from inside of my house since I needed my amp to make final crossver adjustments if needed. I sold my Thiel CS 2.2's to fund this build. The drivers are: 8” Hi-Vi M8N magnesium/aluminum driver woofer, 3” Dayton dome mid, and Hi-Vi RT-1C planar tweeter. http://www.daberaudio.com/projectimages/back%20of%20drivers.jpg The crossovers are not yet soldered, but you can see the individual boa…

Anyone know of a decent home receiver or integrated amp that doesn't mind 4 ohm speakers? I had a Carver CM-1090 but my sister somehow got it. Still trying to figure that one out. She got my CD changer, TV, VCR and speakers, too. Not looking to spend too much and don't mind used.

I am looking for an amp for my room, a 5.1 amp/receiver, with a sub rca out for sure. I don't need a huge amount of sq, i just require it to sound good enough for a party, i.e. doesnt clip out at medium volumes up. I need it to get loud. My franken speakers are odd, in the sense that they take power very well, and sound much better than i think they should for $20 walmart speakers. I'd post a pic, but I don't feel like getting laughed at anymore. I don't care about it doing rated power (ie a pyle pro can claim 2,000w, but put out 800w), i just need at least a solid 75-125w per channel, actual output. EQ would be a cool option, not necessary. Budget is $200. Alternativel…

Just thought I'd post this build here too, it's also on homeaudioforum.com. I will be building a pair of two way floor standing speakers with an 8" woofer and a 1" dual ring radiator tweeter. The drivers i picked are the 8" usher 8137 Kevlar/carbon woofer and the vifa xt 1" ring radiator. Ok so here are some solid works designs And the order

I just bought a 8" Bravox Audio subwoofer (PXW8D-2). I have a 180-240rms plate amp that I will be using to power this. I was looking to build a sonotube enclosure or just a regular ported enclosure (don't matter to me). I just need to know what size enclosure (sealed and ported) would be best for this subwoofer in the home. Space is not a concern. If not a problem, I would like to know the optimal enclosure ported for 1 and 2 of these also. My problem is that the lowest my amp will wire down to is 500rms @ 4ohms. I would like to eventually try it in the car, or I might just have to find another one in the future. But back onto the main topic..It will be used for movies…

So i've had a decent home theater setup for a while now and i'd like to upgrade my sub first then look into new speakers & a reciever and what not if the sub overpowers them (Backwards I know...) I'd like to go with a 15" SSA Icon but i'm not sure about powering it. I don't really have a strict budget but I don't wanna go crazy buying the most expensive thing out there. I just want something that'll give the sub some good clean power. I know a lot of ppl use plate amps but I'm not 100% sure how they hook up... Like do you just connect the sub as you would to a car amp then run a normal indoor subwoofer cable from the amp to the reciever? Or am i just totally clu…

Consists of a 12" Dayton Titanic mk III and a Dayton HPSA500 for power. Box will be around 3.5 cubes tuned to 25 Hz with 3 4" aero ports. Should sound pretty good hopefully. I will try to get some pics of the build but in the mean time, thoughts/input?

Alright, so I have been without any real tunes for quite a while lately and I think it is really starting to kill me. So starting this weekend I'm going to get the music on my Ext HD's straightened out and start this build... Zaph Audio - Slimline Wall Mounted Speaker - Part 1 Zaph Audio - Slimline Wall Mounted Speaker - Part 2 To power it I will be using a reciever off an old "surround" setup that I have. Plans are to also add 1 (maybe 2) MLI-65's for sub duty probably up to 80-90Hz ish (Sorry Sean). First Questions.... Where do I order parts for the crossover? Want to order them and the speakers as soon as possible with hopes of it getting in by this weekend. I know th…
