how much power could one safely put into a fully loaded Fi q 18? i got my sp4 fixed and will be testing some boxes but if i dont get the sounds i want i am going to sell it and buy another sub. the Q seems a logical choice as i want more frequencies but also want to keep the volume. i am undecided on single or dual or sealed vs ported. my thought was that if i replace the SP4 i would get 2 q's and thus have greater cone area with more control and higher bass frequency range. in my mind that would mean i could get more volume out of them than the sp4. the power handling would be close to the same

I took the plunge and bout a BL 12 with Cooling, Flatwind, and Internal Leads. It will be powered with a MB Quart MB Quart Q1.1500D giving it 1500w RMS @ 1ohm. I now need to design a box that will fit in my trunk. The cutout that they have listed on the forum might work in my trunk but I would like to design one myself. I was thinking somewhere between the 2-2.5cuft (after sub and port displacement) and a slotted port tuned to 32Hz. It seems that every online calculator gives different results or has a cuft value that is crazy high. I was wondering what the actual formulas are for finding port length given the port area and desired port tuning? and any other formulas /…

Would a the US Amp MD 2D be enough for 2 10" SSDs with the copper coil? The does the amp really produce 1500 watts at 1 ohm? Or is it overrated?

New to the audio scene and was posed with this question.. Lets say I am trying to squeeze a box into my car, and the trunk fully stripped, can only accept a box that is a max height of 15.5". Would it be possible to fit a 15" Fi SSD in a box that was reduced to 15.5 inches tall? Wouldn't that affect the integrity of the box, being that thin on the top and bottom, or would that even work period? More in depth: Id have to bet that there would be a lot of sanding/sawing involved. I am in a predicament, as my sub faces up in my 1st gen mazda 6 sedan. The actual trunkspace has PLENTY of width, and depth, but the entrance inlet from trunk, or seats is not vary tall. As stated…

Alright, im kind of tossing the idea around between two setups in the trunk of my Crown Vic. Setup one is (1) FI BTL N2 18" in 7 cubic feet net tuned to 32hz. Setup two is (2) FI BTL N2 15s in 8 cubic feet net tuned to 32hz. Here is my problem and question, the first setup with the single BTL will slide right in my trunk with no issues using the box design and cut sheet posted on this forum for it, but the second setup is the issue. Can I run the BTL 15s in a smaller box than 4 cubic feet net each and still get optimal performance? Id like to shrink the box and bump up the tuning to 34-35hz if thats possible. 3 to 3.5 cubic feet per sub would be a much easier fit for …

Alright I started on one more box last week and I am ditching it already. Well im going to finish it for my friends sub, and then start over. I need advice though. Its a daily driver, but I want it to go as loud as possible. I think Ill stay with 32hz 8 Cubes Box Design thanks to rpfuror on caraudio.com Round the ports And 45's in every corner Double Baffled Bracing Any other ideas? Will Sound Deadener(Second Skin) make that much of a difference in SPL score?

  11. I just bought a 15" FI-Q and now I am debating between amps. I looked at a high end: memphis mcd1000, Rockford Fosgate Power T10001bd, Low end: Hifonics BX1206D, Memphis PRD 1000.1. Any suggestions for an amp..or any listed that I should go with? Secondly, I am unsure if I should go ported with a low tune of 28-32hz or just go sealed with it. I want it to bump hard, deep bass and want some sq out of it. SO will that low tuned ported box give me a good sq but also hit hard?

well ive had my btl in for a few months now, but now, i want something louder. I also want to free up some room in my backseat, just because my current box is HUGE back there. what im wanting to do is recone my 15" fully loaded to a 12", and build a better/stronger box for it. i plan in the future getting a second 20.1, strapping them and adding a couple of batteries. I really want to break 150 on music, would i have a possibilty with a set up like that? i know its all install dependent, but with a good install, could that be possible, without having a fart box?

  14. hey guys i was looking for someone to help me try to design a dual reflex bandpass for my 2 15's, idk if this is something that each sub would beed its own box, if so thats fine but i would like both of them to be in the same one. if this is gonig to be a bad idea just tell me and i can make a slot ported box for them. i would just going to try something new. hoping to have them tuned to about 32-34hz i will be running them off a BC5500d. i have 4 yello caps, with another under the hood. i am using 4 RF power series, 2 6.5's in the front and 2 6x9's in the back running off a rf T8004. big 3 done with fat mat everywhere. planning on using MDF with a lot of fiberglass on th…

I am just trying to find the T/S parameters for the heat ring option. I am wanting to add it to lower inductance but wanted to know what the new inductance would be. Secondly I will be putting 3500watts to a pair of Q 15's and dont believe I would need any extra cooling options. I will add the chamfering option but being on a tight budget I will probably skip the Bp/cooling option and just go with the standard Q. I also wanted to know what the Mechanical Xmax is? I only plan on using these to Xmax and less but I do like to know all parameters of my speakers before pushing them. Thanks for any help from anyone.

The SSD is a great sub... The SSD is currently being powered by a SAZ-1500d on my stock electrical along with my beautiful Pioneer 860mp as the captain of the ship Anywho When I first purcahsed the sub I only had a 4.5 cu ft ported enclosure for its home and well lets say it was a great experience to say the least. 4.5 cu ft review: 4.5 cu ft enclosure didn't really provide the SQ that I was looking for but it was loud and allowed it to produce a substantial amount of spl. Very noticable to the point it would tickle my ears and this is one sub mind you had friends that rode in my car think I had 2 subs. I enjoyed the 4.5 cu ft enclosure but due to me having copper coil…

Why does the FI Q have 27mm xmax and the BL only 21. Does this increase with options like the BTL? I'm sure the numbers are correct. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Trying to research which subs to use for my application. 418s in a single reflex bandpass. I heard lil johns 1612s ssd's and they were very smooth. I've been leaning towards the BL's myself but cannot for 1 second knock the SSD's. just a little confused on the Q's Xmax being the most in the lineup. Thanks again - Joe Rod

Here is my problem. For quite some time I planned on putting 4 15" BTL's in the bed of my truck, forward facing. I have a fiberglass lid, not a camper shell, so no wall. I know they need to be ported, at least I want them to be. Is there anyway to put the 4 15's in there or will I have to go to either 3 15's or 4 12's. Out of those two, which will be louder and hit harder. I was thinkin the 12's, esp in the box is right. I will be correctly powering each sub, so power is not the issue here. So, what do you think bout my situation and any ideas??????? THANKS

http://youtube.com/watch?v=fU3nZ-l4vxg just curious my old setup was a 3.5 cubed box with 36" of port. the port was on the right of the box 2"x18" it was narrow. anyways my sub was in the middle both facing forward. it was loud it got really low and moved alot of air. the link above is my new setup. the lows dont really move alot of air like the old. is it because of having to ports. or is the box design not right. the only difference of the new and the old is the new hits highs very good it hurts your ears very badly. why do some people put there subs on one end of the box with the port at the other does that make it louder. i need help with a better box i think. i want …

Car: 95' Lexus SC400. Driver: 1 or 2 Q's. 12s? Here's the deal, I'd love to do 2 12" Q's in about 2.8 cubes sealed or so. If I can make it fit. OR, I can do 1 12" Q and port it, but at what cost to SQ if the box is built properly? 1 Ported would yield a slightly smaller box if space is as much of an issue as it could potentially be once I tear out the false wall. The problem lies in that there is a Factory 10 and 2 4" in the rear deck, I think. 10 for sure, not 100% on the size of the mids there. The rear wall is steel with the gas tank there as well. Again, I have not had time to tear this out but I know there is at least some room in there because I've seen pic a…
