Lookin for info on the q18, you guys recommend 4 to 8 cubes for the 18 sealed. With ~1kw each would 5 cubes each be acceptable? I'm looking for them to carry into the upper range a little more so I'm thinking a smaller box would fit that. Toying with the idea of doing 3 of them sealed in my ext cab truck on a saz3000 for a bassrace/daily ground pounding application. I'm currently running an hdc318 on 2200w and it gets downright loud and I like the upper end response as well as the lows it gets, just looking to try something different. Always wanted to try a large sealed application that got loud both bottom and top end, just not sure if the q18 will do it, which is …

If u get the full cooling option on the btls does that include the pole piece venting also as well as the side venting. Or is it just the side venting and the pole piece is covered?

Well here is the thing. Yesterday I tore out all my 4 gauge wiring to upgrade it to 1/0 welding cable, soldered and heat shrink and all that good stuff. Anyways I decided to take my sub out of it's box to look at it. It's been 2 years since I took it out and it wouldnt hurt to check for any wear/possible damage. I amost forgot what the back of the sub looked like lol. So I noticed the sub is "double slugged" or how people call it. I remember on Fi's website the Q had one magnet. So my question is why did they make the older Q with 2 and the newer ones with 1? Anything changed? Any sort of benefits from it or what? Just courious though. I was thinking of getting anothe…

Hi everyone, I had an amp putting out 2100 watts at 1 ohm on my SP4 18" (Stereo is currently out of the car for the Canadian winter) and I had a couple questions. This is my first build with a large woofer. I set the gain on the amp using my oscilloscope when I had hooked everything up, and I think it might just be my inexperience with this amount of bass, and I don't really know what I should be listening for. The excursion of the woofer is really high and I think I just have no reference point on what should be happening (coming from two 10" woofers on my first build). I don't think it is possible to over power the woofer with this amplifier, and I'm not getting a disto…

Found pretty vague threads on this subject, so posting my own. Just wondering how well the BTL would hold up on a T2500-1bdCP rockford wired down to 1 ohm. This is my first Fi sub and i don't know how touchy they are. I'm going keep the box within specs ofc. 34 Hz, etc.....upgraded the electrical and have a guy thats excellent at tuning. I'm not crazy with the volume or gain so I figure running this beast at 2500 shouldn't be a problem, but just wanted to make sure with you guys if you have any experience with this. Thanks.

The recommended box volume for a sealed enclosure is 4-8 cubic feet. Is there much of a difference in sound quality from 4-8? What exactly would be the benefits and disadvantages of having the volume be 4 cubic feet to 8? What about 5 6 7? So far what I could gather is there would be less low-end with the smaller box volume but the bass would be more detailed. Is this necessarily true? I have trued modeling the a box with WinISD but it didn't seem very useful to me. Also, would adding polyester fiberfill be useful in a larger volume box? Thanks!

I am curious as to about everything about the Q. I am newer to higher end car audio and will be doing something similar to my friend, who I think is getting 4 15" BTLs. How much SPL would 3 or 4 15" Q's produce? I want something that can cause tons of vibrations, maybe flex, but still sound amazing. not quite sure what to go with yet. Any help would be great. I would like the BTL's, but I think they would take up to much room in the bed of my truck, but I have yet to take solid measurements on how much room I actually will have. I am hoping to take up no more than about 3/4 of the bed, this including amps and extra batteries. Or suck it up and go with the BL or BT…

Hey, So I got a 15" Q D2 right now and just sold my crappy amp. I'm planning to get either the SAZ 1000D or a SAE 1200D. Which would be better if eventually I will get another 15" Q D2?

Hello, So i'm finally deciding to change my setup in my '90 Regal and i definately would like to go with some BTL subs. I'm starting to plan everything out beforehand so i figured i'd ask your opinions first. I'm planning on going with a ported box and having it forward facing (blocking off the trunk.) So the rear seat would be removed. I calculated my max box size i can fit ... and it comes to just over 3.3 cubic feet. This is the I.D. of the box and the woofer has a .21 displacement so i'm at just a tad over the 3 cubic feet mark. Now FI recommends a 3-5 cubic feet box size. I plan on playing mostly hip hop/rap with big bass notes. Would i be fine with only having a…

I am getting ready to build a box for a btl n2 18 and I found these cut sheets on the forums Fi links to from their home page. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/topic/44518-btl-box-cut-sheets/ The dimensions just so happen to be perfect to fit in my escape in the area I have left. I have 3 questions. Is this a decent box design? Is there any problem laying the box on its back to fire sub up port up? ( too close to back hatch I think to fire back ) And it shows the hole the sub goes in as 16 3/4 diameter. Is that right for an 18 inch btl? I figured it would be close to 18 inches?

im running 2 fully loaded 15" btl's D2 of of 2 ia 20.1's. each amp is seeing a 1 ohm load and it doesnt seem as loud as it should be or as loud as what i was expecting. my box is 9 cubes after displacement, and is tuned to right about 34 hz. im wondering if my port area is to large, im running right now with 157.5 in^2 of port area and used 12 in^2 per cubic foot when designing it. box is 12.73 cubes before displacement. this is in an extended cab 06 silverado and it pounds the lows dont get me wrong, but i expected it to be louder then what it is. i can always make a port plug but have never done one and am wondering if i do need one, what would would you recommend me to…

Ok right now I have the Q 15's and I've gotten used to them so I want to upgrade to the BL series. My question is, ok i want the same freqency response as the Q's have cause I like how they perform down low, but I need to know which options in the BL should I go with to have a good daily woofer? I was thinking of going with the cooling, flatwind, daily, and universal options because I am not looking to do any competing just some really bad street beating. But Im a little skeptical about the cooling option because it says that there is less metal in the motor thus making it a little weaker? So should I just go with p/chamfer, flatwind, daily, and universal because I dont w…

I've decided on the 2 12" ssd's. Really excited for it! NOW..... the box Ive always wanted to try an aeroport so i can adjust tuning and uses less space. But heres the catch. I dont know what to do lol. The box dimensions im looking at are: Height: 15.5" Width: 31" Depth: 16" According to RE calculator (which i know is off a bit) is about 3.5 cubes with no port. With those dimensions above or similiar, what aeroport do i get!? where do i put it on the box? I want it to be tuned to 32-33 hz thnx guys !!!

yes, i searched. my sincere apologies if someone has asked this before. i am planning on buying a single 12" D2 SSD or Q... which one is yet to be decided the amp is a hifonics 1206d, an alleged 1200w rms but closer to 900-1k probably. stock electrical + big three already built the box, ported 2.25cubes@34hz so.... i want to make sure the sub sounds good, i know both of them will get plenty loud for my tastes, but my main question is, if i get the copper coils does that reduce the rms rating of the sub? do the CC's really make taht big of an SQ difference? the reason i'm asking, is becasue the FW coils improve the power handling at the expense of some SQ, so i didnt kn…

I am getting some 15" btls. I was curious about how I should get it made. I know I want the p-chamber. I read that if you get the 3rd magnet with no cooling option, this is better for SPL. So, what happens if you get 3rd magnet with the cooling option. This is going to be a daily driver with, hopefully tons of SPL, but I don't want to kill the sub and replace it or fix it consistently. So, which option with these should I go with?

Before anything, how much power will a Q with BP cooling handle, if gains are set properly, no audible clipping, etc.? Okay, first off, the SSD should be louder then the Q, IN THEORY (disregard the box and everything), due to it's higher sensitivity, correct? Second, the SSD is known to be heavy on the low end bass, but a bit lacking in the higher freqs. How does the Q do? Will the Q slam as hard as the SSD? In other words, will the Q reach that ass-dragging low bass that rap music is typical of? Thanks, I'm going to ask a couple more questions based upon the answers I receive to this, so check back. -SteveSan

I had the Q in my car hooked on a bxi2006d @ 1 ohm. Never really pushing it tough. Never ever smell the coil either. Now i change my car setup and decide that this sub would fit nicely in my home audio setup. so the big sealed 7ft/cu net box is now in my room. It is hooked up on a getho amplifier setup with a 22amp rail psu and a ma 1889i amp @ 1ohm. getting around 240watt max with the psu capacity well, the other day i realize a kind of rattling like noise with the sub playing at extremly low volume. At first i tough it was something on the wall rattling but then i realize by putting my ear next to the cone that the sound was coming of the sub. I've been using the same e…

Hi, i have a blown tensil lead on my X 12 and i was wondering if Fi could re cone it or replaced the bad lead. This isnt my first blown lead. Before i replaced them but in removing the dust cap i cut through my cone, so i'd rather send it off to Fi. Does Fi cut off the dust caps for this kind of work? or just recone the sub? If a re cone is needed to repair the sub, is there a recone available???? Thanks!!!

I wanted to know if the RE SX recones that fi have on the site will fit and work in the HC motor as well. I tried to get a hold of Nick at FI through several emails to find out but no reply , so after a couple of weeks I went ahead an ordered the RE SX 15 d2 as there was no recones for the HC on the site . any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance.
