My 12" Q should be delivered tomorrow according to UPS. I'm trying to decide on either a sealed or ported box to go under the rear seat of my Extended Cab Silverado. I've never run a sealed enclosure in my past 2 setups, and I'm skeptical as to whether I will be satisfied with the output of one. Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello guys, I am new to this site, and just getting back into car audio. I am planning to run a 15" Fi Q powered by a Cadence TXA-1000D. From what I have read I will benefit from a ported enclosure because I like to listen to rap and music of the like. I was planning on using a slot port enclosure because of the area required for these ports. I have used WinISD properly I believe and have gotten a 3.5 cf chamber tuned to 32 hertz. I used a port size of 3x16.5 and got a length of 29.35 inches. Does this sound remotely close? I also have a question based on sizing the box as I am having trouble fitting a box this size in my trunk along with two cadence amps while maintaini…

Right now i have my 2 Q 12's in a 5^ft @ 33hz with 71sqin of port box. I was wondering if I built another box same size and tuning(might tune to 32hz) but with 80sqin of port would i notice any difference in sound?

thinking about running a second battery in the trunk. i was told there are two ways of doing this. 1, using a isolator and 2, running the + from the front battery all the way to the second battery and then ground out the negitive. are these both true? what should i do?

Hey i use to have 2 (dual 2)12" kicker cvrs running off of a zx750.1 now i have 2 (dual 2)12" FI ssds running of a zx1500.1 and my cvrs are louder then my ssds, the ssds are in a 4 cube ported box tuned to 32hz. My electrical is a 200a EA alt, Yellowtop under the hood. Ive got 10guage speaker wire, 1/0 power/ground wire. When i try to set the gains using the gain setting tutorial i dont get any voltage reading from my dmm so i try and set it by ear and the subs just stop playing when the subs arent moving that much. Im not sure whats going on. Im almost positive i hooked the subs up to read a 2ohm load i remember goin gfrom the positive from amp to positive to sub to posi…

Hey guys So here goes Have my two Fi Q18's off a JBL BP1200.1 When i first installed them they moved in phase perfectly it was actually awesome to watch ! Now they dont and output is down noticably, So.. .. I pulled each speaker out of the box and checked for physical damage, none, no burnin smell AT ALL and no loose glue that I can see, second i Tested each speaker on its own, works fine, i checked coils, fine they all show up the same. Im runnin dual 2 ohm in series parallel and am getting 2.2Ohms on the VMM for my final load , fine.. Speakers were making a funny noise sort of a raspy sound right after they stopped working in phase... Unhooked em right away , checked, …

  12. like the topic says im experimenting with my RE MT to see which coil amp combination will work best, so I would like to know thanx guys , and is there a longer version of the original dual 0.7(actual quad 1.4) coil ?? im in dire need of xmax to get louder... im hearing slapping when i get that sub moving alot( could i be bouncing off the dust cap? I dont think im bottoming out)... last time i ripped the coil right off of the spiders (quad stiff) that was with 4 ab 500.1 gain all the way down ( only got them to produce 75xx watts before sub exploded)or should I be using a different basket with 10" spiders? btw this is a 15" with 12 spoke basket

I didn't think that I'd do this but. Heh, it happens. I'm a complete boxbuilding noob. I know how many cuft Fi recommends and how much port area they recommend. But, I've tried my hand at it and failed. But anyways, Here are my max specs. 49 inches wide 27 inches deep 16(I may be able to squeeze 16.5 out of it) inches tall I'd like to do the port either on the left or in the middle. But, since I have seen/read/heard loading problems I'm pretty unsure as to what to do. I may be concerned about being loud but i would much rather have my woofers happy and lasting longer. I love reading posts about box tuning and loading. Since that is probably the only area of car audio that…

Hey guys I got a 93 Grand Caravan and two Fi Q 18's With BP packages commin hopefully next week Im finalizing some ideas on a box and wanted some input. It gonna be subs firing up port along bottom out back. Im aiming for S.Q.L, i figure it will be loud regardless I'm not trying to put up huge numbers i want it to be very deep and clear thats all So im thinking Height = 26.5" Width = 47" Depth = 39" All in 3/4"MDF / im doubling the top sheet where the woofers are going. According to the RE Box calculator which i dont know how accurate it is it tells me Internal Displacement = 16.068 CuFt Before Sub (0.24CuFt x 2),minor Bracing( maybe .4CuFt) and After Port Displacement.…

hi guys. i was just wondering if anyone has a BTL18 in their trunk? i will be looking for a new or used car this weekend, and i want to be able to fit a decent sized box in the trunk. i really don't want to go with a hatchback, van or SUV right now i have a 2.8 cubic foot box with a fosgate t115d4 and its not loud enough for me. i will be ordering a 15 or 18 inch BTL18 before the end of the month. i want a 5 to 8 cubic foot enclosure to fit.

How do you guys go about breaking your sub in? Do you let it break itself in overtime or do you play a nice tone to help exercise its suspension? Well I should be receiving my 15" full loaded BL today and I can't wait till I get home to get it so im looking to exercise the suspension so that it can be broken in for the weekends upcoming local comp event.

  18. Hi everyone. I've been reading up on Fi Car Audio and in particular the Q series of subwoofers. I really can't wait to start getting my cash together for one of these bad boys. However I have a small knowledge base problem. I don't understand the exact effect of a larger box volume for a subwoofer. In particular I've read that the recommended box size for a sealed Q 15 is 2 - 2.6 cuft. Now, would the subwoofer get louder if the size was 2.6cuft vs 2cuft? There is more air to be moved in a 2.6 vs a 2 correct? But if this is true then would there be any other effects of having a larger box beside the obvious space consumption in the trunk? Bonus question: I listen to a lot …

  22. Started by Kevlar,

I'm trying to decide on a sub for my car, and design an enclosure for it. I listen to a lot of drum and bass, so due to the wide range of frequencies, I've already decided to go with a sealed enclosure, and I have a Hifonics BXi 1606D to power the sub. My original plan was to go with a 10" Q, as I figured it would be more than loud enough, even sealed. The issue I've run into, however, is that I want to mount the amp on top of the box, to keep things more compact (take up less trunk space), and to make the box and amp easily removable for autocrosses. The problem I'm having is that once I make the top of the box large enough to hold the amp (~11.25 x 14.5), and make the b…

I'm wondering if this is a good idea. The box being 12 cubic feet @ 35 hz with 189 square inches of port. That's about 15.7 square inches per cubic foot. I can tune slightly lower, but will sacrifice port area. Is this a good design for daily driving?

  25. Ok this is a repost from yesterday, but I never received any responses. So i am reposting in the technical section. I currently have a Memphis 1000D left over from a previous setup (4 - memphis PR 12"s) in a blazer. I have since sold that vehicle, but still have the amp and speakers laying around. After learning about Fi Audio and reading more and more about them over the past week. I am interested in purchasing one 12" Q to go under the rear seat of my 05 Ext Cab GMC Sierra. I want to use the existing amp to power the sub. If my memory serves me correct, it is capable of 1100x1 RMS Power @ 1 Ohm Mono (14.4V). I'm wondering if I should add the BP option to the sub to allo…
