I've been playing with my max dimensions and the biggest/best box I can come up with will be 12.33cu ft w/ 192.5sq in of port tuned to 32hz. I would like 13-14cu ft but the only way I can get any more box volume will be to shrink the port. Will these specs do okay for a daily driver that does part time competitions? Primarily it is a ground pounder. Thanks

  3. I have a custom box already built that i have a 15 in at 3.5 cubic feet. I was wondering how a 12 inch btl would respond to 2k watts in that overly large box? P.S. its tuned to 32 hz

I was wondering to expand my knowledge and thought others here would benefit from my ever growing thirst for knowledge... i thought i would ask to help myself avoid these problems and also help educate those that aren't aware of these issues and how to avoid and/or discover the following problems.. Anyways.... as it pertains to sub woofers (particularly Fi built ones since i own some) 1. What is mechanical failure? 2. What are signs of mechanical failure (sight, sound, smell)? 3. What are the most common reasons for a sub to experience mechanical failure ? 4. What is thermal issues/problems in regards to sub woofers 5. What are signs of Thermal problems/issues (sight, so…

This is the box I came up with, but just by the numbers, I don't know what the response will be like and how smooth it will be. Box: 44"x18"x20" (outer dimensions) and 37.5"x16.5"x18.5" (inner dimensions using 3/4" mdf excluding port) Port: 4"X16.5" slot on left 18.5" long That should leave me with ~6.6cubes before displacement and a ~33hz tuning. Subs are running off of my US Amps MD2 at 1 ohm. ~1800w rms What do you think?

Please tell me this is a warranty issue...? It happened last night noticed one sub quit, kind of looks like the wire was to short, there are no rips in the speaker just a broke wire? this is a Q 10.

But, now I need to build a competition box tuned to around 43-48Hz since my car is tuned to 45Hz. any help with this would be great. My email is [email protected] for box deminsions and print off sheet. Thanks again for all of your help.

I am buying 4 15's and I wanted to know which was the better choice. I understand that they both have the same RMS wattage I am going for more spl and lower bass. I wanted to know which sub would produce more bass in the lower octave. I have no problem as far as space I just wanted to know which produces more output.

Hey guys, i need help with a box design and unfortunately im strapped on time. If someone could help me out with some plans with these specs i would be greatly in debt. Box is for 2 12's ( .15 displacement per) tuned to 32hz - slot port centered on box double baffle 3.6 cubic ft total 36w x 16h x ??d I need the width and height to stay at 36 and 16. I tried using subwoofertools.com but the program wouldn't give me 36x16x?? but rather 32.5 x 16 x 23.5 or something. Once again if someone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

i've sent a couple of emails but have gotten no reply so i figured i'd just make a thread about it. I'm going to need a recone for a loaded universal btl 12. also i've heard a little bit about tinsel slap problems. If subsonics are kept under control is it really a problem? Any possible performance difference between the d2 vs d1, amplification held aside? If not then d1 is my preference.

I was banging it at mid level volume (25 out 0f 60) for about an hour. Its getting 1200 watts rms from a 9.1 at 1 ohm, my gains must be set a little to high. I bought an old bass mechanic cd from circuit city yesterday, this morning I put it in just before I left my home, by the time I made it to work I was at the end of the cd and was listening to test tones, they went from 20hz all the way to 99hz, I only listened up to 35hz before I cut it off. I felt my amp before leaving the vehicle, it too was warm, I have never been able to get my 9.1 warm before. I then checked the BL in the trunk, the dust cap and surround were warm as well. I never once smelled any coil or glue …

I know the routine in making a sealed enclosure but have a few questions before I begin.... This is the first one I am making for my 15" Q and I am getting 3/4 mdf and using 1.5" on the front where the sub is mounted. I was planning on using liquid nails to glue the boards together and then screw them- should I then caulk around the inside after that? Also when doubling up the front baffle, should I just glue and screw two pieces of 3/4 mdf together and then attach to the rest of the box and cut my sub hole in both? Any other tips, or things I forgot before I start building? Thanks guys for the help!

Looking to build new system. Planing on using a Memphis 2500 watt amp to each sub. This system will be mostly for SPL but also some daily listening. Will be using 10" or 12" subs. Just wondering which Fi sub would work best. Will start with 2 subs but move to 3 at a later time and maybe a Memphis Mojo 4kw to each also.

  21. Hey. I am doing a 5.5 ported box in a hatch of my 1995 camaro, off of a hifonics 20006D, What Sub(s) would you recommend? I want the sub to hit the lows and be pretty loud. I was thinking a 18" BL. Tuned to 36-37. Or maybe 2 15" SSDs? Not sure if these subs will be suffocating in the box that is 5.5 without displacements.

I am interested in purchasing the BL 15 and I have a few questions. It says that the RMS for this model is 1000 watts. I noticed that steve meade has 4000 watts RMS to his BTL's. Does that mean that the BL series can take 2000 watts RMS and still function as a daily driver. How is this possible for steve meade when the speakers are rated at 2000 watts RMS or does he own an upgraded version?

  23. Since my second Q is getting here tomorrow, I thought why dont I start working on the box like tomorrow or Saturday since I have nothing better to do on those days.. So I was hoping that there is someone around here that is an expert at box designs and cutout measurements could help me on making a design and measurements then I'll build it... The box is going to be for 2 15 inch Fi Q's.. Ported.. I would like the subs firing upwards and port firing towards the hatch.. Also, I want it to be tuned at 32hz.. It will be going in my explorer.. so the max dimensions I got: Height: 16 1/2 inches Length: 41 1/2 inches Width: This wont matter, I got plenty of room, but would li…

this is a test box i built. okay it's 1.1cu. ft. and i had it tuned from 32-36-40-48. after trying all of these, the other box i have in the car is louder. do i not have enough port or wrong place? i don't know. at 32 hz the test box has a smoother transition. all the rest of the tunings were okay, not great. anyways my question is what size box would you guys recommend for spl and at what tuning? my car peaks at 43 hz in the old box. maybe i was expecting too much but after hearing the bl in my existing box i got all excited. just wanna try and make an spl box the one i have now is a pretty good dd. thank you in advance to everyone. btw it's a 3" port and a 1…

So i am using my 15" Q for a home theater sub, 12cuft tuned to ~12hz or so. It is a monster on only 1000 watts. Through reading allot on subs and linear tech im wondering how the Q's coil is setup, underhung/overhung, any linear tech, shorting ring, and if there is anything special about it? Im more or less wanting to compare what i am listening to and what its tech is compared to what some people are using. I have to say though that the Q in my enclosure is a pretty amazing experience. just need to get maybe another 500 watts to it and some way of keeping my house's voltage stable. thanks!
